  1. Damn spelchek, meant to say crewcab!
  2. Crewman, I think I drove one of those c.c.t.s. jimmies in 87 was a curtainside car hauler 671 with a turbo and the usual blower! 20 speed Spicer on air! Strangest set of specs I've ever seen! Should have been a dump or mixer! Nobody wanted to drive it! They were trying to split shift it like a five and a deuce! Properly driven it was one of the smoothest trannies I ever drove!
  3. How high does the man lift go?
  4. Cool p.u, looks like all the body parts are one off!
  5. The pride of Cortland!
  6. She'd lift a locomotive!
  7. Had my head up my a.., you're going near Albuquerque, there is a rest area on I 40 called the meteor crater rest area in the eastern part of the state worth taking a picture of, you can walk out in the crater, watch out for the rattlers! That's a beautiful run this time of year! Also,I just remembered this is the time of year the cactus flowers bloom! If you're lucky enough to see it they only last for a short time,I've only seen it once great photo op! Beautiful rock outcroppings and mountain scenery too! Have fun!

  9. OD,where are you going in New Mexico?
  10. The old Chevy medium duty on the end looks like it has possibilities!

  11. The "politics" of this whole situation make my head hurt! The doctor was not a felon, he was a paid passenger on a major airline! How did he get his teeth knocked out and face smashed? The two officers certainly weren't in any danger from a small elderly person! I don't know when the flight attendants had to report for duty in Louisville, but it is an easy six hour interstate run from Chicago how about rent a camper and Driver so they could nap on the way? Would cost waaay less than what they offered the people to give up their seats! Not to mention the millions the very public civil suit will generate especially when every high dollar attorney in America will stand in line to take the case for the publicity! I love it when an arrogant corporate entity steps in it up to the eyeballs!
  12. Liked the old Federal, except for the color combo! The four door Mack may be the ugliest truck I've ever seen! The Chevy cabover and the 860 dump are cool! I learned to drive semi in a crackerbox similar to the one pictured except single axle! I've reconsidered on the Federal, the color grows on you!
  13. Each fast food chain has locations that are well run and those which aren't! The Chic Fil A in my area is well run and the food was good! No parking problem! I didn't notice any religious propaganda! I've been in the place three times. I prefer Wendy's! and Hardees for breakfast! The big McDonald's in our area screws up almost every order, but the food is the same as any other location. The small McDonald's is friendlier and better run I attribute this to management!
  14. Was listening to a talk show and several experienced fliers said foreign airlines, especially Asian ones, treat their passengers much better than American based airlines! Another frequent flier recommended that even if you use an American airline, you should book it at one of their foreign bases!
  15. They have a good chicken sandwich, and this being America are entitled to their political viewpoints! There is no law saying the students have to eat there! I have guns and beer, but I don't have titties! Being male I am not unique! Being from Pittsburgh, I seem to recall that Duquesne University is a private Catholic university, highly regarded academically, which is neither here nor there, but I suspect the founders are spinning in their graves hearing of this b.s.! I think the offended students might find their time(and their parents money) are better spent in academic pursuits like studying than worrying about "safe spaces" I agree with Gray hair they are in for a rude awakening in the real world!

  17. DMM,I assume you are mainly referring to the tankers that pick up raw milk from the farms.Since there is not always anywhere to " axle out" but of course knowing what your equipment weighs and how much your tank will hold you have some idea what your gross is! I suspect that the DOT officers are aware that they can catch the tankers over on their axles! I have little knowledge of the milk tanker operation! I seem to recall that the tanks I've seen are either 10 ft spreads or fixed tandem without adjustment! In Florida as a result of citrus being loaded in the fields, also juice in tankers where there may or may not be scales to axle out, you are allowed 44000 on an axle set instead of the usual 34000 if you are under 80000 gross. There are a lot of rural timber carriers in Florida (stick haulers) who can't scale in the woods where they load and can benefit from from this additional axle weight!
  18. He who has the gold makes the rules!
  19. There are ten speeds with a rating over 900lb ft, should handle a 237 without a problem.
  20. KSB,as most of our members know, I've been harping on this situation ever since I discovered this website! It would seem for once the driver and his employer or the company he is leased to would be 110 percent on the same page!! There are few industries where safety and bottom line are so closely related! While the ATA and the major carriers they represent are lobbying their a###s off for 33' doubles, which equal more freight volume and potentially fewer drivers which contribute to bottom line, which is the holy grail of the major carriers,if not most corporate entities! Are they completely blind to the obvious safety issues of sleepy drivers?! Why don't they use their considerate political influence to lobby for more truck only rest areas? How about offering truck stops tax credits to add more parking? Do the same thing for the individual states! Put as much effort into this issue as they put into the "Dont drive in the no zone" posters we used to see on truck trailers! I've always thought it would be fun to take a truckload executive with me on a run into one of the areas with limited truck parking like south Florida or the east coast, and every time he dozes off wake him up! I suspect one reason so little has been done to address this issue is the carriers don't want the general public to know how many sleepy drivers There are in commercial vehicles! One thing for sure this problem is only going to get worse until it is addressed! Anyone who has driven for any length of time has seen those terrible crashes with no skid marks where it is fairly obvious the driver fell asleep!
  21. FXFYmn and 721, Truck stops have been playing those games for years! Crude oil is a commodity like soybeans and goes up and down, but truck stops have been known to milk their location to raise prices when there is no competition! I've also noticed that in the spring gas and diesel prices tend to be lower ( to encourage tourists and vacationers to take longer trips) and go back up in the fall ( when truckers and business travelers have no choice but to pay the prevailing rate!) Gas stations near an interstate ramp are almost always higher than those in town!
  22. KSB, it never ends! Same taxpayer dollar wasting bureaucratic b.s. that accompanied the CDL hearings in the late 70s!, the push to legalize 57 ft trailers and virtually no significant attempts to create locations to park these trailers! I'm not referring to double and triple trailers,as almost none of these are sleeper runs, and the LTL carriers that utilize them, provide " break bulk" warehouses and tractor parking! The drivers who work for truckload carriers with sleeper equipment are often stuck with nowhere to park when out of hours! The endless management cant of "plan your trip" only goes so far in south Florida, the east coast and upper new England, to name a few! I am not a fan of Wal-Mart, but they are very reasonable about permitting truck parking and I always tried to make at least a small purchase when parking there! Most of you know how I feel about incompetence mitigation devices such as Mr Leathers promoted, nearly always unnecessary in the presence of properly trained experienced drivers! The kind that don't come cheap!
  23. Schneiders Dairy, Near Whitehall pa served the whole south hills of Pittsburgh Pa! Delivered all the dairy products plus bread, orange juice, and the maple rolls! We had one of those galvanized boxes, had about a half inch of insulation inside. My buddy's dad next door drove about a 15 ft reefer old cornbinder, brought it home every night, did his deliveries in the am.Meadow Gold Dairy. There was a big Isalys dairy plant on the north side of Pittsburgh,Where the Klondike bar originated! The milkman wore a white uniform with a billed cap and a little bow tie! Like the old Texaco gas station guys wore!
  24. Wonder if Mark Knofler can double clutch better than Donald Trump? 😁
  25. Wonder if Tony Hawk had to get a class A for his "skateboard" Lol
