  1. Hat City, perhaps OD didn't help the "damsel" in distress for fear of being over gross!
  2. I see your point EZ, didn't pay enough attention to the first part of the video! On a similar vein, I was following a Menards driver in northern Wisconsin one day on a snowy highway, he had two pups a flatbed with pallets and a van. A motorist pulled out in front of him and he had to "lock it up"! With a remarkable degree of skill he managed to straighten the thing out and avoid an accident! I got on the radio and complimented him,Turned out he was driving school instructor full time and Menards Driver part time! You may be familiar with the GM proving ground up there, that was where he trained truck drivers!

41,think of the unintended consequences of California becoming part of Mexico again!. Then all the car plants we have "offshored" to Mexico might be forced to incorporate the many b.s. additional emissions devices exclusive to California vehicles that have made all my fellow gearheads cringe!😁

Being largely apolitical, I wasn't even aware anyone wanted to secede! I do read labels however and have discovered that virtually every product I use in my workshop and most of the components in every product I buy or would ever hope to buy have been found to be carcinogenic by the state of California!...why aren't they all dead! Perhaps Sen.Polosi should review her eighth grade geology text 😁
  5. Great job! His company should give him an award for saving them from a potential multi-million yen lawsuit and saving many lives! Also a pack of new Hanes underwear!😁
  6. Googled Salt river canyon, it's NE of Phoenix on hwy 60 I've never been there, watched a few videos beautiful area almost no big trucks for obvious reasons!
  7. Actually a long straight job ( like a greyhound coach) takes a lot of skill to maneuver!
  8. Freightrain ,that's a good lookin' B we'd like to see the rest of it! I've always thought white or cream with darker looking fenders would look good!
  9. Irony upon irony you win a Truck with legendary reliability built by properly compensated workers who take pride in their work, and a set of tools with legendary reliability formerly built in Wisconsin by properly compensated workers who took pride in their work but now built in China by workers paid subsistence wages in a country with multiple human rights violations and pollution so bad that city dwellers have to wear surgical masks to work! I bet the service body is made in China too! While on my oft repeated rant concerning offshoring, I recently did a survey at Home Depot and Lowe's,conveniently located across the street from one another. With the possible exception of a couple of low dollar Dewalt tools,I'll get back to that!, every power tool in both stores was made in China or Mexico! This includes Makita,Bosch,Rockwell,Dewalt,Black and Decker, and a few Japanese tools! So Japanese and German workers are losing their jobs to China too! Milwaukee and Dewalt have come up with a clever marketing scheme! Dewalt placed a few low dollar tools under a huge Made in America sign at the entrance to the tool department in Home Depot. Milwaukee placed a couple plastic tool boxes in the same location! Also made in America! So the average chump thinks all Milwaukee and Dewalt tools are made in America! That is those who actually care! Milwaukee power tools tend to be uncomfortably heavy, but I noticed since they " offshored they have have come up with a couple lightweight cheap looking grinders! Milwaukee seems embarrassed to have offshored, they hide the hecho in China marking next to an "engineered in America" marking!
  10. I am 110percent against talking on the cell when driving ANYTHING! Statistically talking on the phone is as dangerous as drunk driving! It is perfectly legal to talk on a cell in Fla while driving it is illegal in Connecticut but as near as I can tell they don't enforce it! The big emphasis is on texting as well it should be! but texting in Florida is a secondary offense! Which means an officer has to stop an offender for something else to ticket them for texting! The fine for a first offense is something like 140.00! Slap on the wrist!
  11. OD, the gorge always made me nervous especially in the wee hours of the morning! Its always foggy! It isn't steep, but the turns are so tight that you always have four wheelers trying to go around you bad in the tourist season! Have you ever heard of salt river canyon in Arizona? Is supposed to have such a long drop that when a trucker or motorist goes off the edge they just remove the bodies and leave the wreckage! I heard of this in the 60s, I'm gonna look it up and see if I've ever been near there!
  12. OD, you're becoming a folk hero in the hills of Appalachia, you can't even hide and you're being shunned like an Amishman!😁
  13. How did he get the Jersey barrier between the tandem without being aware it was there?!😁 unfreaking believable! Was trying to think of the best screwups I've seen over the yrs! Here are two! I'm running I 87 in upstate NY doing 60 and a dry van passes me and his last axle has no tires on the two wheels sparks are flying! I try to get him on the radio! Not surprising really! He's in his own little world! Like all of us I've blown tires! Always when loaded, usually one goes, you hear it blow and pull over right? I've never had two blow at once! Most likely, one blew and put all the weight on the other since he was completely numb he kept driving unaware of the one blowing out and the other one heated up and blew! This next one is a classic! I'm at the Flying J in Gary In I was parked in the lot, and walking back to my truck ( it was daylight so 50/50 chance of getting to my truck alive!) Anyway there is one parking space in the row, everyone is facing out this guy is pulling a reefer with a Cabover and he swings out with the intention of pulling IN the space! There is another Cabover parked to the left of the open spot with the driver at the wheel.I can see and the parked driver can see at the last minute that the " unit" isn't going to clear his windshield! So the poor guy is frantically trying to "backpedal" into the sleeper! (He hit the horn too late on his way back") The reefer unit takes out his windshield, the A pillar, and part of the left door! The driver made it into the sleeper without injury! Whew! Several drivers witnessed this,so when I saw the uninjured fellow head for the right door I just kept walking! Wish I had a camcorder! This was before cell phone cameras! By the way it didn't look like his trailer would have cleared on the right either, but he didn't have to worry about that!
  14. When I was working the xtra list out of local 249 in Pittsburgh in 87 for OK Grocery ( Giant Eagle Mkts) there was a store whose dock was so tight that you were given a gmc astro day cab( instead of the usual R model day cab) and a 40 ft trailer instead of the usual 45! You had to go the wrong way down a one way street and go in the little tavern to get the patrons to move their cars from in front of the dock! It was an uphill dock and you were authorized to rub your trailer against the telephone pole to pivot into the dock! The local utility had installed a metal plate ( think half of a piece of pipe) on the pole to protect it! We carried an electric Jack in the trailer, was lotsa fun unloading the pallets uphill! I don't imagine they train the folks at Roadmaster truck driving school any of these obscure skills!Lol
  15. The "honeydipper" that pumped out my septic was driving a new Western Star 😁
  16. My second week of driving a big truck July of 69 pulling a 40 ft bedbug trailer with a 63 gmc crackerbox thought I was a truck driver (not!) A chromed up needlnose Pete is approaching in the other lane... and a girl is driving! Kinda took the wind out of my sails!😁
  17. Do you carry a feeler gauge? Was a place in Addison Ill with a whole collection of marker lights laying on the ground!
  18. He must have been " the Werner the world awaited" Lol
  19. Sorry the driver died! On a lighter note I had a driver pull out of a dock next to me without checking if the "dock lock" was released tore his icc bumper most of the way off!
  20. I judge a man not by what he says but by what he does! Andrew Carnegie As most of us know Carnegie was no saint! But I like that quote! My grandfather was born in 1887 and he said that the wagons carried the dead workers out of his steel mills on a daily basis! Some claim that he built all those Libraries out of guilt! At least he BUILT the libraries! He came to America penniless from Edinburgh Scotland! Or was that Edinborough? Don't remember!
  21. Also flies in the face of the major carriers culture of hiring the least experienced drivers their insurance carriers will let them put behind the wheel ( they're cheaper!)
  22. Read somewhere that there was some model of Acura wagon with automatic braking that was prone to lock its brakes when it saw a certain type of road sign or one of those delineaters on the roadside! They hushed it up REAL quick! Not surprisingly! I have a suggestion for the legislators and truckload executives that would reduce accidents exponentially, it's called defensive driving! But that would be too simple in our culture of protecting us from ourselves!
  23. On the subject of brakes locking up,in the early 2000s I was on the cross Bronx with about 8000in the wagon and my emergency side glad hand fell off! Yikes! Trailer went into the right lane which was fortunately empty! From that point on even with new glad hand rubbers every time I ran the east coast I duct taped the glad hands!😁 I'm not a religious person, but I know on more than one occasion the angels have had their hand on my shoulder!
