  1. The MH "glued together" Cabover was proven to be one of the safest Cabovers ever built! When I drove for Ryder Systems one of their Coleman camper leased trucks an MH,mack hit a KW Cabover head on at 35 mph in a Pa tpke tunnel one lane restriction! The KW driver was killed, but the Mack driver received serious injuries and survived! Mack was so impressed that they sent some engineers to the Ryder terminal to view the wreckage! I spoke to the Mack driver who was walking around with a cane! I've driven a lot of cabovers, but the MH was the most comfortable! I only drove one F model but I prefer their looks to the cruiseliner Strictly an opinion, we all have our favorite trucks!
  2. No wonder Michigan highways are in such nice condition! LOL!
  3. 57 Bcr, it sure does look like they used your R for a model!
  4. 386, I remember seeing some of the old Brockways when I was a kid! The grille guard weighed as much as a Honda! LoL
  5. Alex G, that moose guard looks great! Has very smooth lines, really adds to the trucks style! Rocky, Bubba should get a picture of his truck next to the "big peach" on I 85!😁
  6. What an awesome B model! I have an original Smith Miller wrecker I got when I was 6. Someone bought the nos. components and possibly the tooling! You can buy parts for old toys and new complete trucks and rigs. LJ B and Kenworth Cabover are available. Also an Autocar looking conventional. My wrecker resembles an Autocar Autocar. The new trucks are very pricey, start at about 1100.00!

Thanks for the info gents,I've used acetone to thin rust .oleum to spray it you don't want to breathe it ! 41, at 1750 lb and 450 hp you would do well to own some Michelin Stock lol! Nice lookin' build!
  8. I was running thru northern Oregon on I 90 and I saw an eagle on the shoulder eating some roadkill it was the first time I've ever been that close to one! Very majestic bird!
  9. Heavy gunner,I saw a photo once of a wild turkey that went through the passenger window of a big truck ! The thing didn't appear to be injured was just sitting in the co drivers seat like nothing happened!
  10. Wow! Where to start!? First most trucks have an operators manual in the truck! If not it is contingent upon the driver to be familiar with the tranny, parking system etc of his vehicle! I've never driven an automatic class 8 vehicle, but WHO would exit a running truck with the thing not in neutral or park! I assume full automatic big trucks have park or neutral position on the shifter or selector. When I say full automatic obviously I'm not referring to the semi auto ten speed rr with a computerized clutch which enable the big carriers to hire the least experienced operators that their insurance carriers will let them put behind the wheel! Sorry folks you KNEW I was gonna go there! As a former parking lot hockey, carlotpilot,ya listening? The second thing you learn, after parking 8to12 units 3" apart is know your height, watch your height, sweat your height! You guys that drive a packer, do the refuse companies have a height stick that you can check your truck for 13' 6"? Never thought about it before, but two identical trucks could be several inches different in height! This is a very Gray area but the statutory height limit nationwide is 13' 6" the only exception I'm aware of is New York state where the bridges are marked a foot low (except those into NYC) I've never gotten over the "pucker factor" of approaching a NY bridge marked 12'9" when I'm 13'6"!😁 As several of you have correctly noted the driver has the FINAL responsibility for safely operating his truck! Having said that the company should send a new hire out for at least a day with an experienced operator! Don't the CDL training schools tell these people (if it isn't obvious) that the vehicles they will be driving are higher than the Honda civic they were driving? I just realized Mack.007 Is from Bayonne! If there is anywhere in America where you should be aware of potential low bridges it's Bayonne!
  11. I always carried 2 atlases one standard and one "truckers" for the scale locations! I'm cheap so I used to buy last year's model when the new edition came out! Never owned a laminated one, I hated the stiff pages! Like you said Hobert, a road closure or accident etc left the GPS boys in the dark! Had a GPS route once on my truck Qualcomm, got me 200 yrs from the customer with a railroad track three feet above the road and no crossing! Had to go about ten miles around to get to the customer! That cartoon reminded me when I worked for Bell telephone actually used to call my girlfriend from a telephone pole! We had a portable telephone you could clamp on the " pairs" up on the pole! Every telephone line had a "ring" and a "tip".think they're all fibre optic now. I also used to work in the " frame room" where all the telephones in a district are wired. You could listen in on anyone's phone! Of course we weren't allowed to! One line was a local "house of Ill repute" very interesting conversations!😁
  12. I believe Malatesta was the first dedicated speciality car hauler, preceded Reliable and passport!
  13. Never seen a plow truck with that long chute, how does that work? Thanks for the info JH, those mailboxes are unsightly and dangerous!
  14. Never heard of Silkys, but when I worked at the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie RR every street corner on Island Ave had a bar, most supported by the RR! One place called Stushes was 200 yrds from our repair shop and they cut a hole in our cyclone fence so the workers could access the bar(during working hrs) one fellow worker used to disappear thru the fence for about 10 minutes (shot and a beer) and magically reappear, sometimes without being missed! I've never been in the place, but it was said to have good turtle soup ( in season) TJC I've been thru BS dozens of times, but never past the hotel thanks for the photo! Beautiful place, must have been over a hundred years old when it burned in 74! I'm glad they they rebuilt it! OD about this Tim every year it was common to see dozens of mostly does grazing along the Pa tpke, also eastern I80 they were starving, with ribs showing, a good reason for an extra doe season in the fall!

Rebuilding the infrastructure could create thousands of jobs lasting years! Politics continues to get in the way!
  19. Never seen a plow truck with that long chute, how does that work?
  20. I suspect she was already gone! his political affiliation was just an excuse! Anybody old enough to remember when almost all blue collar workers were Democrats? It changed at some point, I can't remember when!
  21. Like Eazor,Trans Con, and Cornflake one of the many victims of deregulation!
  22. Can't say enough about Rotella 15/40! My diesel mechanic cousin recommended it to me in 1978 and I've used it in every internal combustion engine I've owned except for two Corrolas my wife bought new that required 5/30 and ow20 to preserve the warranty!
