  1. What a gorgeous horse! Really like the polished sleeper!
  2. I am always floored by the insightful comments by a "bunch of truck drivers" we all live under the cloud of that truck driver stereotype "what was the name of that truck driving school" Goose to maverick in Top Gun Lol indeed Henry Ford the genius businessman was a well known anti Semite and surely had thought ahead to the results of his unprecedented 5.00 a day wage beyond the obvious benefits to the workers, 1 they could and would buy his cars! 2 One of the simplest and oldest ways to keep out the union is pay well and treat your employees well! Overnite and Con Way Central, did it for years! I don't know when the UAW was born but at one point they were the strongest union in America! As Dirtymilkman pointed out Henry Ford wasn't a model citizen nor were any of the men who drove America's industrial revolution! My grandfather was born in 1887 and told of the horse drawn ambulances taking the men who died and were horribly injured out of Carnegies steel mills every day! There was an unwritten rule that if a man fell into the molten steel (a "puddler" like my Irish immigrant great grandfather, for instance) That that run of steel was thrown away! My grandfather just laughed,"You actually think they're going to throw away all that money just because someone fell in it!" Back to Trump, his ego prevents him from from employing the subtlety that is necessary to negotiate his policies at the global level! I agree with Fxfymn on that point! You can't piss off the whole free world and expect to accomplish your goals!
  3. Looks like they made that "cowcatcher" out of chrome " grab handles"! Very clever, looks good too!
  4. Teamster Grrrl, who said "any damn fool can drive a truck,I was a warehouseman" Lol
  5. Read a road test on a new camaro was laughable that the " parking assistance" feature was an option on a stick shift car that does a high 12 second quarter! Lol
  6. My best friend is an air force vet, he saw a janitor at a high school drop the flag on the ground while lowering it! He stopped and read the guy the riot act! Turned out the guy was never taught the protocol on properly folding the flag for storage, so my friend gave him the short course and it ended out well!
  7. Perhaps Mr Kar can address the abysmal safety record of the motor coach industry in the mountain passes of the Indian subcontinent by introducing the autonomous motor coach with optional rooftop technologies to accommodate the transportation of passengers and goats in relative comfort and safety ! Lol
  8. Teamster Grrrl a return to the "planned obsolescence" of the late 70s American cars only with a 180k price tag! Makes perfect sense (to them)😁
  9. Interesting topic KSB, I wonder where carbon fibre would fit in for commercial use? The exotic car industry has made entire cars of carbon fibre, but I think that where load bearing capacity is involved it would have to be a composite of some metal and carbon fibre! As for use of aluminum in fifth wheels I think corrosion could be a factor! I believe salt would have a greater effect on aluminum than on the cast steel alloy normally used for fifth wheels! The fifth wheel is currently the most " overbuilt component on a motor truck, hopefully they won't try to save TOO much weight on it!
  10. Wal Mart in general is a p.o.s. (read who stole the American dream by Hyder Smith) HOWEVER, their drivers are among the best treated in the industry! Many of their drivers are former master freight drivers! You don't leave one of the best teamster jobs in the country unless the new job is worth doing! Wal Mart brings in prospective drivers for up to five interviews before they hire them! Who would put up with that if the new job wasn't worth doing!? Having said that,Wal Mart doesn't treat their drivers well because they are nice people! The efficiency of their operation absolutely depends on seamless on time delivery of their product! How often do you go in a Wal Mart and find they are out of stock?! They can't afford unhappy drivers who don't care about doing an exceptional job! Every major freight company in America has been trying to get Wal Marts entire delivery contract for the last 30 yrs! The best any of them can do is get to do WMs freight overage! It's very simple, when you lease your drivers you lose total control over them! The best comparison is K Mart, they've had lease drivers for decades and they are always out of stock and if you are delivering there God help you if you have a "live unload" five hrs minimum! Wal Mart has a three hrs unloading limit and they almost always get you unloaded in 3 hrs or less! Also their gate guards and warehouse workers are all employees! Most of the major grocers use employee drivers as well Public and Win Dixie here in Florida for example! I don't like Wal Mart but they run an efficient operation!
  11. I'd like to see the the final figure on what this situation costs the railroad and FedEx when the attorneys are through with it! Hope that drivers log was "up" (for the last seven days) hope every brake on that tractor and those two pups was properly adjusted! You know it must have looked like a DOT convention at that crash site!😁

It just gets curiouser and curiouser!Lol
  13. I think they are really cute, but I agree with Ga Dave! They're not 100k cute! What about the International scout? Similar vehicle, but I forget what they're going for! Gonna have to check my latest Hemmings! While on the subject of things with four wheels,I can't miss the opportunity to reinstate my rant on the Buick Envision what MFing unpatriotic pos would buy a poorly rated overpriced CHINESE made suv? Or for that matter the south Korean made Encore! If you are determined to buy a Korean branded car there are several made in America, also Japanese,Swedish, and German branded cars! There are reliable competitively priced cars in almost every class made in America!,except possibly the higher end exotics!, and all of them are made by properly paid and treated workers! Unlike the subsistenence paid Chinese workers who have to wear a surgical mask to walk around in their polluted cities! I don't think there is a person on this site who would buy a new car without thoroughly researching its ratings and country of origin! However a little pat on our back I think we are the exception! I believe the average American consumer is the proverbial " sheep led to slaughter" and that is what Buick is counting on! Ok I'm done!..... For now😁
  14. If vegemite is allegedly beef extract why do they call it "veg" emite Lol !
  15. Rowdy,,I got the Avalanche mixed up with the Aztek! You're right the Aztek is arguably the ugliest vehicle built...Ever! Also as you said, today's youngsters aren't all hopeless! I was heading for the waffle house in McDonough Ga when I realized I turned the wrong way on the ramp! So I made a u turn on the two lane and got stuck in the wet grass on the shoulder, with a 53 ft dry van! Blocked the whole road! I had visions of a 200.00 tow job when a kid about 19 and his girlfriend pull up in a brand new Dodge 1500 4wd he pulls up in front of me and throws a chain on the ground! I said "you're liable to burn up your tranny guy" " nah she'll do it"!  He says ...and it did! We both got to the Waffle House and he wouldn't even let me buy them dinner! But who else but a certifiable red neck engineer carries a 20 ft log chain in their brand new pickup?😁

  16. Cool train Mike! My grandpa had an old o gauge Lionel steam loco, from the thirties was die cast tho. Had a tin tender with the whistle in it! I got a union Pacific Lionel diesel when I was six! Sold the diesel to pay a traffic ticket, dumb move!
  17. I've driven a couple f s but that's the first one I've seen with a set back axle! Bet that's a hard riding son of a gun!,as Teamster Grrrl mentioned there are numerous ways to avoid tariffs! Like shipping pickup cab and chassis from overseas and shipping the beds separately, then mounting them here. They're not a complete vehicle till the bed is mounted! Then . my favorite, the cheap plastic seats in the bed of the Suburu Brat! They turn the vehicle into a suv, thereby avoiding the "truck" tariffs!
  18. There is a paper mill in rural Maryland with a 90 degree turn and right after the turn there are 14 tombstones to memorialize the truckers who died there! I forget the rte number but I've been to that mill! I suspect 0D has been there as he runs a lot in that general area! Like that old country song" a tombstone every mile " that song is based on a downgrade in Maine where drivers used to haul loads of potatoes out! What part of Pittsburgh is Galvtech in ,never been there?
  19. Wow! You guys are making me hungry! Used to get homemade pierogies at the Orthodox church in Mckees Rocks pa when I worked at the P and LE RR Got the world's best home fries at Ginos Diner on Neville Island Pa. Southwestern chicken rice soup and Omars taco soup at TTT in Tucson Az. Southwestern Chicken Rice Soup at the Mexican restaurant ( replaced by the Flying J ) ex 37 in El Paso ,and red beans and rice with kielbasa in the port of New Orleans! To name a few! Been thru southeastern Pa hundreds of times but never had scrapple! Someone please tell me what vegemite is comprised of!😁 Also had artichoke pizza at Campitis Pizza in Dormont pa. Still there 40 yrs later! And of course a 12.00 hot beef sandwich in Gold Run California at the crest of Donner Pass! Homemade, the beef cut by hand, but a little pricey for 1989 ( or today )!
  20. Finding the grille must have been a chore!
  21. Great job on the restoration grandma will be speechless!
  22. The "human cannonball" uses air pressure to propel the person thru the air! I've never seen the mechanism up close, but I'm thinking it's like a giant maxi chamber! It may load a giant spring and have some way to release it.The actual circus mechanics and engineers built the first one and do their own maintenance, probably to preserve the secrecy of the design! The first truck mounted cannon I saw was on a beautiful streamlined Diamond T chassis! The B model pictured is equally handsome!
