  1. Kinda like those rumors from a hundred years ago that the oil companies bought out Stanley Steamer because of its potential effect on their profits! A few years ago 20? Ford designed a ceramic V8 engine block! Never heard any more about it! Got a question for any of you guys who worked in the motor pool in the sixties. I used to see deuce and a half and possibly five ton tractors that were " multi fuel" I assume that would be petroleum based fuels( gasoline, diesel, kerosene, jet fuel etc) I'm thinking some way of changing the compression ratio? Or injected rather than carburated? With adjustable jetting! Anybody work on them? Several automakers have introduced variable compression ratio engines which use a linkage or eccentric on the connecting rods! But they work in conjunction with today's computerized electronic engines which didn't exist in the sixties! Fascinating!
  2. The average person hears what the govt wants them to hear! Kscarbel, I recall hearing a year or so ago that some pieces of debris were found and positively identified as off 370! Was this a smokescreen so we would all assume the plane had crashed and lose interest in it when they knew what had actually taken place and were trying to prevent public panic?
  3. When the road got icy on I 80 or the Pa tpke, I used to WAIT for the plow and them follow him!
  4. Westbound Four wheelers seem to be moving ok maybe FedEx was pulling an empty " kite" !
  5. Only met one ornery DOT cop was on 95 in Connecticut bout 3mi south of the TA near Branford in the rest area, was deliberately trying to tick me off,I saw what he was up to and killed him with kindness! I had JUST run out of hrs,was heading for the TA when he stopped me! He could have made me spend the night at the rest area, but let me go to the truck stop! Blew a trailer tire on 95 In Va right south of the old Speed and Briscoe TS a Va trooper pulled over and I mentioned that I hadn't eaten that day,he said " what kind of food do you like?" He suggested several restaurants and I picked one,he took me there, came back in an hour, and took me to Speed and Briscoes so I could get a tire man, by then I'm broke and I'm getting a cup of coffee in the cafeteria line and the tire man says,"is that all you want" I said that's all I could afford! So he lends me ten bucks (I was waiting for a comchek to pay the tire man!) So that's two acts of kindness in one day! That was 1976 but I've never had a bad DOT inspection really!courtesy goes a long way! Another o/o and I were running together on our way to Texas and they pulled me around back at Brownsville Tn! We would leave our logs open and do them every night when we laid over! OMG I haven't started my log . an I've been driving all day and I'm In Tennessee! The inspector said he needed one more truck to complete his day! "Must be my lucky day I quipped" We got to the log part and I showed him my blank log meanwhile my friend is pulled over just past the scale waiting for me and I told him he may as well go on...Whadda you mean the inspector says? I said I've been driving 8 hrs and haven't started my log!! He says "just make something up but don't show more than 10 hrs!" He gave me a warning for a couple marker lights ( one bulb out on a two bulb lamp) and said "have a good day" Brocky, you better believe courtesy works! When he started the inspection the DOT man asked if he could sit in my truck to fill out his report ,I said "of course!" I believe the Brownsville scale was where " 60 minutes" did their infamous report on unsafe trucks and outlaw drivers ! Several months before they stopped me!

He gave me a warning for a couple marker lights ( one bulb out on a two bulb lamp) and said "have a nice day"! Whew!
  7. The L with the factory sleeper is a rare beauty!
  8. Nice Brockway6368! First big truck I rode in was a 358 I think 220 with an Eaton " bogie" Pittsburgh to Chicago with a load of steel! 1968!
  9. It occurred to me it could be a " shanty shaker" chassis, don't see any holes in the roof for the wide mirrors, but could have been filled!
  10. Kyle, most 18 year olds can't drive a stick shift let alone any kind of truck! I imagine many of your friend wonder why you are interested In that old multicolored truck!! Don't waste your breath, they wouldn't understand! Leave them to their Honda Civics with the big chrome mufflers😁 welcome to the site you'll like it here!
  11. Makes me think of the old freightliners with the overhead sleepers, were mostly used by "bedbuggers" before deregulation to get a few more feet of legal trailer length! I heard you couldn't sleep in them legally when the truck was moving! That Corbitt may be the most bizarre truck design I've ever seen! Wait a minute! Has anyone ever seen that tractor that backed completely under the trailer and flush with the nose of the trailer? The thing was four feet high and the fifth wheel was on top of the cab! Supposedly to accommodate a longer trailer! Rumor had it they couldn't get anyone to drive it! What a surprise! Lol!
  12. I give up what make is the compressor truck oh, ok it's an a car! Like the suicide doors! My dad had an old international Cabover in his salvage yard, similar in appearance, also had suicide doors!
  13. Those dodges had a nice look to them!
  14. That model B has some " attitude"!, I love em!
  15. The little mini Bs are awesome! Looks like they cut down the fuel tanks so they weren't so tall,or does someone make a smaller step tank? I wonder if a cut down Mack front fender would look good in the back where they have the Ford fender? The Ford fender matches the B cab really well tho!
  16. So they built Mack trucks at Oakville Ontario as well as Ford's? I'll be darn! I've delivered at the Ford truck plant in Oakville!
  17. But if you were camping, and you're camper caught on fire you'd have it made! LoL
  18. Cute little H! Might be able to clear one of those ancient rounded freight boxes! Also could be used for a modern gooseneck " toy trailer! "Did the factory actually build one that short? More likely somebody modified it! If it isn't air ride it'd beat you to death bobtailing!
  19. Can't wait to see the new " Volksbinder" lol
  20. Didn't have the Ford Cabover from White Line Fever did they? I drove one of those sorry things for a month, no great loss, it had the range selector for the ten speed bolted to the floor!
  21. What a fascinating post Dave! Did that B have a brownie behind the compound? You'd almost need more gears to get the Damn thing moving! As far as putting a cat in a B, in 74 there was a B hauling steel out of Pittsburgh said to have a 318 Detroit in it! Never saw under the hood, so can't swear to it! In those days the 318 was still considered a pretty powerful engine. There was a very brief period in the 60s or 70s when Allis Chalmers was building an engine for big truck use, anybody know the history of that? 41?
  22. Rowdy,,I got the Avalanche mixed up with the Aztek! You're right the Aztek is arguably the ugliest vehicle built...Ever! Also as you said, today's youngsters aren't all hopeless! I was heading for the waffle house in McDonough Ga when I realized I turned the wrong way on the ramp! So I made a u turn on the two lane and got stuck in the wet grass on the shoulder, with a 53 ft dry van! Blocked the whole road! I had visions of a 200.00 tow job when a kid about 19 and his girlfriend pull up in a brand new Dodge 1500 4wd he pulls up in front of me and throws a chain on the ground! I said "you're liable to burn up your tranny guy" " nah she'll do it"!  He says ...and it did! We both got to the Waffle House and he wouldn't even let me buy them dinner! But who else but a certifiable red neck engineer carries a 20 ft log chain in their brand new pickup?😁

  25. Always check the crossbar when you hookup, rockin' it's not always enough😁 amazing how far those hoses will stretch! As for the turbans, used to be a freight outfit in California hired a lot of those guys might have been Indian owned!
