  1. Pa Lawman,I just recalled a situation from the distant past that kinda relates to this whole debacle! I grew up in Mcmurray Pa (a suburb of Pittsburgh)when it was primarily a rural farming community which rapidly became a high dollar yuppiefied area where all the Steelers, Penguins players lived! My dad owned the local auto salvage yard.He built a state of the art concrete block building which included a modern apartment where we lived and two offices which he rented out.Almost from the day he opened the city council would come around and f..k with him over all sorts of minor b.s., I guess his 8th grade education didn't fit in with their plans for the community! Anyway he was grandfathered in before they could zone the community against auto salvage yards! He kept a clean operation, all the cars were in neat rows and when Ladybird Johnson initiated her beautification of America campaign he even planted flowers in front of the garage!, But every time the council members came around when they left he would stack up a bunch of junk tires and pour gasoline on them and light it! All of you know how much smoke 50 burning tires create! LOL! He was a tough old bird! When he retired and sold the place nobody could ever have a salvage yard there again!
  2. As some have mentioned we can all understand the reason for zoning, but the majority of this is anti truck bias! There is a clause in Hernando county Florida where I live that no commercial vehicle over 5000 gvw can be parked in a residentially zoned area! That's a half ton pickup! It's ok here to park a 300000 dollar camper the size of a greyhound bus! I have it on reasonable authority that you can have a road tractor hobby truck licensed as a camper as long as it isn't used for paid hauling in Florida, similar to 68 Fs situation in Michigan.
  3. Summit is not the company they used to be either! My late son in law bought a summit branded four barrel manifold for a small block Chevy.Made in China stamped on the bottom! I've been told all Summit branded parts are made in China!
  4. There was an article in "Car and driver" about glider kits using pre emissions engines predictably anti truck! What a surprise! The anti truck bias will outlive all of us! Anyone old enough to remember the school bus accident in kentucky when the plaque on the highway said "truck" bus accident? The "truck" in question was a Toyota P.u. with a drunk at the wheel! Trucking industry pressure caused them to change the plaque! The latest slanted commercial on tv is the Subaru ad "a truck failed to stop" so that's why we drive a suburu! They don't show the truck, but you can be sure the average motorist pictures an 18 wheeler! Ironically in the majority of 18 wheeler/automobile crashes statistics show the automobile driver to be at fault!
  5. Of course it's a 4070, I hauled mail with several of those, Waite Inc. out of Akron Oh. Hurry up and Waite, a breakdown every run!
  6. There was a young dude hauling steel out of Braddock Pa with a similar horse had a v 12 gas burner with a 20 speed Spicer two stick! The man earned his money!
  7. Sharp little truck, was a right side wiper optional?
  8. The Hendrickson tractor is an oversized load while bobtailing! Where were those trucks built?
  9. Love the question mark lol! Is the B unsure of its identity?
  10. 66,the B model pickup is looking good how about about some overall photos? The first big truck pickup I ever saw was at a truck stop in California in the 90s someone removed the cab and front end from a late model Ford dually and replaced it with a 60s KW cab and front end, looked factory! Very nice.

I'll have some good photos after it gets striped next Friday

  11. Freightrain wondered about the details on that accident! We had a school bus driver who cut me off in the neighborhood 3 times when I was taking my grandkids to school,I finally called their safety dept. They must have reprimanded her as she made the turn safely from then on! I watched the driving habits of their fleet ever since and have no complaints on their driving, unlike those of the general public!
  12. In the 70s Overdrive did a complete article on those shenanigans about switching toll tickets and such they called it the Jesse James system of trucking! I never heard about switching doors though, that's funny as hell! Makes sense though! As always I have an anecdote!. My friend and I were coming out of Delaware empty and got stopped at that temporary scale on 41. My friend had his old White "Road commode" Cabover didn't have permit one or any legalization! The DOT man said I don't see any Delaware permit, and my friend said "they're on the other side" "Oh,ok" he said go ahead! Lol!
  13. Ain't this a damn shame! There was an outfit in Pennsylvania that was building a version of the Diamond Reo, was a glider kit I think. It actually resembled the last Diamond Reos! That thing sure doesn't!
  14. Hadn't really thought about what market buys the most trucks but it's obvious it's the fleets! The Cascadia is (in my opinion the ugliest conventional tractor built to date!) The little Windows in the sleeper don't match the lines of the truck. I don't like modern trucks in general, but the Scanias are good looking in a modern way, and I really like the International lone star!
  15. Nice F, wh
  16. Dave imagine one of today's "three week wonders" having to deal with that situation! My " hotshot tractor" a GMC 7000 puked a throw out bearing 150 miles from the house, the customer let me drop the trailer but I was out of hours.I parked on a hill at a Hardees and slept til morning, caught it in gear and drove it home without the clutch that was no problem but timing it at a couple lights and a stop sign was fun! All because the throw out bearing had no grease fitting. The one I installed did!

  17. You're right Brocky! Maybe they got em cheap!
  18. I spelled Krystals wrong, I guess I fit the trucker stereotype!
  19. Can't eat too many crystals!
  20. I'm watching "American pickers" they are picking an old retired judges farm, he has a B model Mack and an old 40s St John'sbury rounded front trailer watching it as we speak!
  21. Freightrain, got my latest "Street Rodder" not one manual transmission feature car! All automatics! I understand it's not about speed,as the automatics surpassed the four speeds in the 60s but I still like shifting! Even after all those years in a semi! Wonder if Tremec will have to file bankruptcy?
  22. OD I worked as a freight car repairman in Mckees Rocks Pa.The P@LE RR went out of business when the steel industry left Pittsburgh Pa.
  23. Why not just weld the differentials to the frame lol! My dad got a job driving a chain drive sterling dump hauling coal when he was a young man did a 360 on one of Pittsburghs icy downgrades... quit his job!
  24. Hernando county Florida doesn't permit any commercial vehicle over 5000lbs in any residential zoned area. When I moved here in 92 I was still driving OTR and I've been thrown out of every good parking place near my home! Truck trailer or any combination thereof! I live in a moderately upscale middle class neighborhood. Half acre zoning. I retired in 2008 and it seems to have gotten looser. There is a guy who parks a 53 ft dry van and 3 axle tractor in plain view, a deputy lives in the same house wink wink! They keep up the property so I don't care! There are a couple drivers from big truckload carriers who bring their tractors home on layovers. As near as I can tell they let you alone unless someone complains. In Florida I'm told you can register a "hobby truck" as a "camper" as long as it's not used commercially. No CDL required. Only fair as the 200000 dollar 40 ft campers can park legally here! How is your F model registered? Do you use the gooseneck commercially? Or just for hobby use? I think Harbor freight sells an inexpensive metal framed sheet plastic garage that would hold your tractor. A guy in my neighborhood that has a big camper has one.
  25. Youngstown Bulldog, have you noticed that Rolling Rock doesn't taste the same since bought by Anheiser Busch? Maybe it's just my imagination!
