  1. T Grrrl, have you ever heard one of  the anti truck citizens say get rid of trucks send it all by rail! Makes sense to me! After all the steel wheel is the cheapest method per ton at present to expedite freight, also the least polluting. Keeping that in mind, where in you're backyard shall we put that siding!!asshole. And who will pay for it you and I of course we've been paying for the subsidized railroads for decades! In addition to my 3 million miles of trucking I have four years as a freight car repairman at one of the only self supporting railroads in AMERICA.the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie RR.in Mckees Rocks Pa. The P and L E's number 1 customer was Jones and Laughlin Steel Corp. So when the major steel companies took the profits the United Steel Workers generated and bought new state of the art mills in China,Brazil and elsewhere( under a different name of course) Our railroad went under. You almost would have to be a railroader to understand the abysmal condition of our railroads and their roadbeds and infrastructure!

Agreed, some of the shortlines are in pretty miserable shape. That said, the BNSF maintains the track that runs by me better than our state maintains highways.

T,Grrrl, thanks for the reply, you're right, having lived most of my life in the "pothole capital of the world" I understand about  unmaintained highways!

  2. How about some pictures of the Diamond Ts ! The Cruiseliner looks great! The "Roo Guard" must have an interesting pivot arrangement so you can tilt the cab! Always liked " understatement" The green and gold is very classy!
  3. Was Frankie Laine popular in Australia? Wouldn't have guessed it! Always liked his style!
  4. Some great looking iron, the B model sleeper is a rare piece!, I think I saw the P.I.E. Freightliner on a run on u tube !
  5. KS, with the engine bolted directly to the frame on the Fargo you'd never have to dust the bodywork!😁 Sounds like a fun affair!
  6. Sharp looking B, OD you've done it again!
  7. Ones nicer than the last, kinda dig the LJ!
  8. Whites in Raphine was always my favorite t.s. in the Shenandoah valley, but towards the late 2000s it would fill up by the late afternoon and I would park across the street at the Wilco I think it was,And go over to Whites in the morning when it cleared out for breakfast.Should be about the third generation of Whites running the place now!
  9. Marcel 67, what a joke, I hate trucking in NYC, Jersey, and most of the lower east coast for all the usual reasons, but I still did the S.Bronx,Manhattan,Chicago,Spent the night once at the old Hialeah t.s. with a drop in Miami.( where the TA is now) only t.s. where you could get a beer at the counter! I figured I'd be dead in the morning so I sure didn't wanna die sober!😁 Why don't the wet nosed strokes want to go to California? I LOVE California. Just wash the truck, adjust the brakes and wait for Banning to close if possible! If not just make sure your paperwork is in order! I'm assuming they know how to get their paperwork in order!

  10. Watched most of the Marilyn Monroe post interesting!

Gotta rant on a subject you will all agree on!! How often do you get 100 percent agreement on anything!  Question "when is a truck not a truck"? Read a ladies comment in Consumer Reports today. She  Was saying that her seatbelt use and the air bags and "crumple zones in her late model minivan probably saved her life. Who can't agree with that certainly not me! I quote "A truck pulled out in front of me"! Define "truck" madam! I promise you 90percent of the85 percent non trucker subscribers are picturing a thundering 18 wheeler with a criminal sociopath at the wheel!! Since she didn't elaborate, here are a few potential scenarios: A pickup, a straight truck under 26000gvw therefore requiring no cdl, the same straight truck with an undocumented immigrant at the wheel( since they are permitted to receive a drivers license including an interpreter) in many states! If you require an interpreter, how do you read the road signs? I've got a buddy down the road who is a legal Cuban immigrant whose dad spent 11 yrs in Castro's prison, and I used to load in Miami where the foreman, another legal immigrant gave me his impeccably maintained 64 Chevrolet to go get takeout food. So I'm not anti immigrant just anti illegal immigrant! The media has been using the word truck for years to describe many vehicles that don't fit OUR definition of " truck" because it  evokes the average citizens bias against large usually professionally driven vehicles. My favorite example of this is familiar to most of you who run the Southeast, I believe it's on I 65 in Kentucky there was a school bus crash where all or most of the children burned to death I have tears in my eyes 30 years later just thinking of it! Well the state of Kentucky initially put up a memorial saying it was a  "truck bus crash" Well the truck was a Toyota p.u with some drunken asshole at the wheel and the trucking  industry complained so avidly that they changed the sign!

Ever see one of those ads on tv " Involved in a semi trailer accident," call (insert name of one of the hundreds of "ambulance chasing" law firms) The vast majority of major carriers will settle out of court even if they aren't at fault! Barring really obvious cases (proven dui or drug use by the claimant etc) Than face  a jury! Due to todays level of anti truck bias! Truck involved accident cases are a law firms gold mine!

  11. Hope you will feel better soon Baby mack😁
  12. Grayhair, I was doomed (or blessed) to be in some facet of the trucking industry,I just didn't know it! When I was 6 yrs old I could identify every make of motor truck that drove past my old mans salvage yard, Reo Diamond T,Federal, Sterling, etc. There was a steel supplier in Washington Pa that had a fleet of chain drive Mack straight trucks that went past the house every morning on their way to Pgh.You could hear their chains ringing a mile away! They were obsolete even in the fifties! The old man had a 201 Diamond T wrecker with a Manley hand winch! My school bus was a Federal! My fate was inescapable!
  13. Once again I wish you guys and gals were running the country!! Keg 1 I'm not so sure a week would do it,the majority of mainstream dry and reefer freight is hauled by non union carriers, Swift,Jb, Schneider,ad nauseam.Their clueless, minimum experience drivers would lose their jobs if they participated in a shutdown. You can't blame them really, everybody has to eat! One of the major reasons nobody will strike or shutdown today is unlike when Hoffa Sr. Was in charge there weren't any social programs to fall back on! The carriers, steel companies, coal mines, textile companies had the workers by " the short hairs" If you struck and were fortunate enough to not get beaten to death by the "company goons" you had no money to live on! I've been wrongfully fired twice and collected unemployment both Times!Teamster Grrrl as usual you nailed it line by line! When I was an o/o on more than one occasion I was offered some pos 80.cent a mile load the agent would say "it'll pay for fuel!" What the hell is this my hobby!! Like you said no matter what your occupation you can't afford to "break even" or worse! As long as you are willing to " work for nothing " they will pay you nothing!
  14. Once again you're all correct! One of the few positive things about growing old is you you see the same crap over and over again! The 1st so called "shutdown " I remember was in 1974 it never really panned out! The problem is of course the o/o can't afford to shut down and the ATA and their cronies the major carriers know it!
  15. What were they thinking when they put those elongated slots in the wheels?😣 I think the visor "breaks up the lines of the cab" I've seen a smaller fiberglass visor(maybe factory option?) That looks like it belongs.Nice MH though!
  16. I can't effectively comment on the debate, because I deliberately avoid listening and reading(mostly) to anything involving the two non candidates whom I deplore equally for different reasons!
  17. Man, I loved truckin' in New England in the fall! So beautiful! My buddy from Warren oh was running from the DOT in his single axle "road commode" on a two lane in Ohio he went around a blind turn and took off down a dirt road he had never been on and ended up at a covered bridge! The average covered bridge has about a 3 ton limit on average I think! If that, plus a White Cabover is pretty high (by covered bridge standards)! He made it thru and found a place to turn around a nd went back across it! The DOT went on by (It was night and he turned off his lights) He got away that time! Got a trivia question for you folks on the subject of bridges. What is the longest steel "arch bridge" in America (before 2004)And what is it made of? Most of you you OTR guys have been over it Otherdog for sure!
  18. Once again a CEO of a major corporation denies both responsibility or knowledge of indictable offenses by his underlings! Ok, he's either stupid or a liar. Well we know damn well he isn't stupid no person who stood to"earn" 19 million in compensation is stupid! So the board has taken away his 19 mil. And 41 mil. In stock options. How will he live!😁 I predict at some point the board at the request of the stockholders will ask the pos to resign! I also predict his "severance" package will be more than the average skilled tradesman will earn in a lifetime! Gray hair has commented that Warren Buffett owns a big piece of Wells Fargo. Not surprising, his role as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway demands that he make profitable investments for his stockholders.Of the well known billionaires I have More respect for him than most. But if he did a "morality check" on the corporations he intended to invest in there would be nobody left!! If it happens Mr Stumpf will accept his resignation with "courage" at the "pleasure" of the board!😁 Warren Buffett pissed me off a couple years ago when he bought Nocona and Tony lama boots and "offshored" their manufacturing to China from Texas! He was making a profitable move for his stockholders! The last " name brand " boot to my knowledge made in America is Red Wing!.
  19. I liked the flathead Ford v8 option on the old Ford tractors! The farmer with that would be the envy of his neighbors!
  20. Was worth the trip!
  21. Didja ,have to pull the fenders to get the truck on the trailer? Is that the same as a Mack Jr pickup or a different bed? Very unique! Is there any interchange on the doors? Good luck on the build!
  22. Just thought of this, I'd give money to see the valets try to park the wedding vehicles at the reception venue!! Lol
  23. Remarkable wedding party! Might be possible to get in the wrong "B" but the dissimilar shifter combos would bring you back to reality!😁 Happy anniversary!
  24. Marcel 67, I remember hearing good things about hauling jet engines from my hotshot days! I didn't have airride so I couldn't haul them. That is just one kind of specialty freight that the big carriers don't usually mess with because there is too much liability,to let their preferred inexperienced low wage drivers haul.Plastic tanks and sheet foam insulation is another.
  25. You're all correct ! The CEO of Wells Fargo had to "answer" to congress, but it the stockholders and board are embarrassed that he got caught and ask him to resign he will get a million dollar severance package and o jail time! Just like our esteemed Florida governor was CEO of HCA when they were convicted of the largest Medicare fraud in history, and he took "the fifth" 75 times and got an 800000dollar severance package o jail time, and the governor's chair of Florida!
