My dad built me a go kart out of an old reel mower,welded the frame up from EMT tubing,removed the blades.Slowest thing you can imagine!! You know how fast a push reel mower was !

Good point Red horse,so that gear case is just to connect the two axles,doesn't ad either reduction or overdrive?I did note the narrowness of the spring leaves,have to wonder how much more a larger (but low spec'd ) chassis with conventional full screw and air brakes would cost? Compared to the conversion?

The implications are many and varied! 1.so o/o and small companies can't compete with the major carriers. 2. So the major carriers can cut back their trucks (thereby getting lower ins. Rates) and still be competitive. 3.So the major carriers can hire their favorite candidates,( those with the least experience) and not be concerned about them doing the speed limit (when it's over 65)and still keeping it between the lines!.When I refer to major carriers I mostly exclude the LTL and package segment,which is mostly union where seniority works for you not not against you. I haven't seen this proposal,but I'd bet the biggest steak in Florida that they support it by pandering to the publics concerns about truck emissions and global warming.Note: I believe in global warming and reduced emissions,but it needs to be a compromise between all factions. One last thing, do the ATA board members support a "speed limiter" on their Mercedes and their kids new corvette!lol -
Wow! That's as bizarre a twin screw setup as I've ever seen! Axles appear to be Vacuum operated 2 spds,is that a "brownie" or similar auxiliary between the 2 axles? How many gears in all? Chassis appears to be f5 or f6 so limited weight carrying capacity why all the axles and springs?,what was the application? Speaking of bizarre,anyone old enough to remember the short lived belt driven tags?

Sorry to hear about your relatives,I went through New Orleans a few times after Katrina what a mess! The tow trucker who took away my wife's flood totaled Toyota,spent a few wks in New Orleans hauling away totaled cars said there was a lot of violence.Some people came up to his truck and began beating on it demanding water! A couple rounds from his Glock 9 in the aIr and they dispersed rapidly! I spent a couple months hauling roof insulation into Miami after Andrew hit.I t looked worse than Katrina but Katrina cost more.Also,wind damage can look worse than water damage because of all the debris everywhere.

Great job! I have a 1979 craftsman riding mower I'm determined to restore.The thing's awesome,the sheet metal is 14 gauge,the transaxle has an automotive style shifter that shifts sideways.Has sealed beam headlites 14 hp Tecumseh with roller bearing crank.My wife wants me to junk it of course!

As usual I'm impressed by the cumulative knowledge of youse guys lol with a 10 ft spread on the trailer you're allowed 73 280 on a single axle combo.on the interstate system.the average sleeper road horse weighs 18000lbs so you're not stressing that single axle.Also you've got rid of the extra suspension system and differential,power divider,etc that's a whole bunch of parasitic drag!most single axles gain up to 1mpg over the identical full screw.That's a big number.As usual I have an anecdote to go with the subject! I was driving an 85 mh cabover single screw with a 50 ft aluminum drop deck 10 ft spread on air. It looked like a big truck trailer but had 12k rated axles, and the rig was licensed for 50000.We had two deuce and halfs going from Ft Gorden Ga to March Air force base in Riverside cal. Nice load! Only problem you can only put 1 gbl (govt bill of lading) on a truck! They were estimated @14000lb apiece so we figured if I watched my fuel I could stay under 50000.well the army loaded them both to the top of the stakes with heavy electronics equip. I told the military expediter I would take them to our terminal,and put one on another truck! Not kosher,but she bought it.I noticed my trailer tires were squished down,and it pulled a little heavy.Well what should have weighed 28000 weighed over 40000! So I was forced to do exactly what I told her I was gonna do! "The best laid plans" right? -
Gray hair!,Don't know where to start! Ok flood ins. I'm 6 miles from the Gulf coast and nowhere near a major body of water.was declared a flood zone Feb of 2012 ,got flood ins. Rained 16 days non-stop,tropical storm Debbie hit June 28.Had 2ft of water in house 2 wks, Next door neighbor had 4ft.Rest of neighborhood dry.Fema pays for everything that gets wet @todays cost minus depreciation. Paid to repair the house and all contents. 435.00 per yr! If you're in a flood zone GET FLOOD INS! The ins cost is going up due to Fl not having any major storms in a long while,so we are paying for Katrina, Sandy,and Baton Rouge etc. You're right about tort legislation and attorneys! A tort is the non contractual obligation of a person or business to protect their customers,neighbors,and damn near anyone else from danger or personal injury.I looked it up! Without tort legislation 2/3 of today's attorneys would be out of business! Criminals have sued the homeowners when they broke in their house for things like cuts and bruises on the broken glass and falls (because the house was cluttered)And won! Unreal! Interesting the ist freightliner conventional came out in 77 or 78 too,lotta stuff going on trucking wise those years! Also the Gmc General as someone mentioned.Made one run in a general,nice truck but the previous driver trashed the interior. Inexcusable! That brockway/mack hybrid kinda resembles the failed diamond reo raider! That truck was marketed directly at the " high end" owner operators.They advertised the heck out of that truck in the Midwest.Truck stop showings etc. -

Saw a couple of middle schoolers properly folding the flag as they took it down for the night. Very inspiring! My buddy,a navy veteran,saw an an adult school janitor drop the flag on the ground while doing the same thing! "Read him out",and then educated him.Of course that wasn't a protest,was just ignorance on the part of the janitor.Rowdy rebel,I agree it's their right to express themselves,but like you don't have to like it! Poetic justice if they set themselves on fire while burning our flag! Lol on a more pleasant subject, just on my beloved Isuzu p.u,I've had to create two special wrenches on for the Weber carb,another for the water neck. Standard wrenches were too long in both cases. When I realized Milwaukee power tools are now made in China,I bought one of the last American made ones in a pawnshop.40.00 ! What I didn't realize was you need a special tool to change the grinding wheel( it's a 4.5" grinder.Ground down an old pair of "off brand" channel locks for that job! Anyway,I feel your pain !
