  1. I've never driven a 12 speed mack do you use the tall stick like a ten speed ranger(twice) and the deep reduction as needed?
  2. Thanks for the reply Freightrain I was on the other end of the state! I never looked at a "factory" air over hydraulic controller just seemed like it would work and it did! Did you get your electric setup back together?
  3. Brocky, there was a kid in my hs class was a big Hank Snow fan, he was Canadian wasn't he? had a Dave Dudley trucking songs tape! Ever hear "The Eagle" or "Tombstone every mile" I think that was a Dudley tune. My buddy told me it was based on a highway in Maine where they hauled potatoes. There is a papermill in rural Maryland where there is a 90 degree turn with 14 tombstones (at last count) OD and I have both been there.
  4. Great pictures OD! Those fish must be like those "walking catfish" to function in that shallow water!
  5. I blew up my 8.2 Detroit hotshot tractor with hydravac trailer brakes, started running my friends single axle Cabover "binder" with air brakes.Had to make up something quick! Bolted a big truck brake chamber(non maxi) to a piece of channel iron linked to a single master cylinder from an old Ford pickup! Damn thing actually worked!
  6. Never got into electric brakes Freightrain, Bob had a 3 axle hotshot trailer with them, pulled It for years. That secondary shoe has a lot of miles left! Where is that Beaver track? Beaver Falls? Never heard of it?
  7. Brings back a lot of memories! Didja see the guy stick welding the frame? Perfectly acceptable,I wonder when the last nationally known rail or gasser frame was stick welded? Wonder if that as Art Arfons running that Allison rail? Remember him from Akron, ran all the bizarre jet cars made a few land speed attempts as well! I've pulled some old 5 and six car Bankheads but that car hauler was a dinosaur!
  8. Drove a 950 Ford tandem 534 with a 5by3 when we were building the city of Margate Florida.unlicensed job site truck! Took a gallon of hydraulic fluid in the hoist every night tried to split it one time and the tranny stuck in two gears! Had enough power to just use the main but I had to try! What a brute! Drove a well maintained one of them in a car hauler would outrun most diesels til you had to stop for gas! Running rural Pa and Wva had to fill up in little gas stations with the trailer sticking out in the street! Today's drivers don't know what they're missing!
  9. First big truck I ever rode in was a Brockway like that! 250 Cummins 15 speed "bogie" Lake Shore Transportation out of the Pittsburg terminal.
  10. What a beauty!
  11. Two of my buddies had 3208s in class 7 GMC "big shots"in the early 90s leased to Cardinal Transport out of Warren Oh. They ran good in that operation (under 50000gross) but after a couple hundred thousand mi they started to have problems.
  12. Youngstown Bulldog,do you remember JVMcnicholas and Toms Express?
  13. So they must care about their drivers KSB! A unique concept!lol
  14. No it isn't James!, while I support fair organized labor agreements, remember what happened to the air traffic controllers and the Greyhound bus drivers etc this may not be the time for a standoff!
  15. James, for the 1st time a big three automaker ( Buick) has imported a Chinese model the envision, branded Buick and I heard Cadillac has as well! Buicks excuse is they didn't have time to design a car to compete in that market! Fortunately they don't appear to be selling! Buick is offering up to 8000 off on a 43000 dollar car! They are poorly rated. KSB has said they are well built and I agree they certainly have the technology, but my argument is that automobiles are one of the last fairly high end products built in America at a good wage! And virtually every foreign automaker has a plant employing American workers why would anyone buy a Chinese built car!
  16. Young sheepherder in Montana is out in the prairie in his line shack for 3 months (his first time) A couple of old hands come out to bring him supplies. How ya doing pal?,everything ok? "Yeah he answers dejectidly, but I could sure use a woman!" Just go up on the hill"(where the sheep are) They answer! So he does and comes back in a couple of minutes and the old guys are rolling on the ground laughing! What the hell are you laughing at he asks? "You picked the ugliest one!" They answer!
  17. Anyone know the model # of a 1983 mack with a U model cab but jacked up for 6 wheel drive with the spacers on the front fenders? There's one working locally for a septic tank outfit the driver said they removed the front differential and replaced it with a beam axle because they couldn't get parts! Pretty nice truck works daily. Anyone have pictures?
  18. Was Tower based in west Virginia? I recall calling them about a help wanted ad, was living in Washington Pa.
  19. First truck I ever owned was a 1939 Diamond T wrecker .
  20. Is that a CO 4000?
  21. Freightrain is that the B model you tow your car trailer with? Bob said you had one?! Awesome B!
  22. There is a local septic tank contractor running an 83 U model with the offset cab,we used to call them "sidewinders" was an all wheel drive but they couldn't get parts so they went to a dead steering axle. I told him someone on this site could tell him where to get any mack part if it existed!
  23. The first 18 wheeler I ever rode in was a Brockway! Had a three piece windshield and the fenders that swung out May have been a 358.
  24. Took me a minute to get the jist of your comment! (I'm old) I personally refuse to own a smart phone I have no need for 300 "friends" I've never met! I realize they are fascinating I also realize that the many members who are contractors have to have one (their customers expect it) but every time some idiot walks into me while talking on one or I'm in a doctor's office and every person waiting is staring at one like a zombie I long for the days when I ran several small businesses with a double entry ledger and a #2 pencil! They've already put the local bookstore out of business, libraries will be next. Ok my rant is over!

it took me a second as well, it was part of why i found it funny. i resisted the smart phone thing for a very long time, i have one now but my use/ability to use it. is fairly limited. if i didn't have some customers that want to communicate by text message i probably would still have a flip phone. my other half still does not have a smart phone.

  25. While I am apolitical by choice, this is the first administration where I can't name any of top staffers, doesn't matter though he'll fire a couple more this week!
