  1. Ok I did read the description of the damage,40000,seems a little high.Even if not financially feasible to fix mechanically would be a great display piece in a mall or in a small town square,Get the boy scouts to wax and clean it annually, maybe charge a fee for photos with it for charity.
  2. (when I was in the mobile welding business ,I put driveshaft loops( like on a dragster) on four Bob Evans trucks (12 'reefer units) one of their drivers broke a front u joint, the thing stood up on the driveshaft and went over an embankment.Fortunately he wasn't hurt, except his pride! But their boss didn't want it to happen again! is that what happened to the fire truck? Didn't see the photos.

  4. All business b model. Thanx to you guys for sending in all the two engine truck pictures! The little streamlined Ford cabover was my favorite. The diamond t .looked like like they built it one afternoon on their dinner break! I'd still like to have it to blow people's minds with! I'd love to see detailed schematics of how they handled the drive line's.
  5. On the subject of Jay,what I like about him is he is interested in everything mechanical, not just socially acceptable high buck stuff, lambos,Ferraris etc.He has driven virtually everything on wheels! Steam tractors, that outrageous tank engined roadster and so on.I just received a window motor from rock auto.com,for a 93Camry. 32 bucks plus shipping.(The whole unit, incl.drive assembly) they give you a choice of name brand Dorman was mentioned,or el cheapo(which I bought) the thing worked perfectly and looked like the original. they list all the major big trucks,Mack,'s etc. But only  cover later models. The part I got was 80 bucks at auto zone .That photo of Heavy gunners hay field, makes me wanna sing God bless America! And they're burning our flag!

Napa of the name brand parts stores is the last place for the remaining few quality parts made.Of course because they cater to the commercial trade. I too fab.anything I need  to hold up. when I bought my elderly but like new Isuzu p.u it had a factory step bumper, all beat up and too large for the truck.a piece of 4"channel, the"bronze wrench" and  some 6011 wire took care of that!

  7. Hobert 62,that's a great lookin' B! The toolbox looks equally good on the superliner! I've always liked the look of the big round tank with the step under the cab but don't like the thought of being "t boned" with all that fuel under me! Sanford eh? used to pu at a paper mill there. int.paper or Ga Pacific,I forget.
  8. loc tite is good s....t, made in Ireland if I recall correctly so is Jb Weld. There goes that kilt!
  9. On the subject of emissions, if you buy a new glider kit, are you required to meet the latest emissions standards, or the standards that were in place when you're engine was built? Playing devils advocate,If you drove that old truck 2 million miles, how much pollution is created when 2 or possibly 3 new trucks were built, if you traded it in instead of rebuilding it and then installed the rebuilt powertrain in the glider?
  10. aren't any dumb questions, just the ones  you didn't ask! You'd hafta change the drums obviously, but maybe you'd get lucky and find drums that would work with your existing spindle and brake linings. It's a real common setup,so there has one of the guys who've Done it.

Big dog,you aren't old enuf,( be glad) but a couple of us who were driving in the 70's remember The UPS diamond reo c.o.e.,day cabs.Wonder who got them? Would be kinda cool either as is,Or with a period correct box sleeper. Have been on a diamond reo kick for a  couple wks, since I missed that 86 tractor with the Deutz air cooled diesel, for 1800bucks.too late I find out how reliable they were, also how rare.On the Dayton wheel pin stripe issue,Can only recall seeing one, didn't like it.Much nicer with a dark color wheel( with little Mack hubcaps) and silver or white snap rings.Or w/o the caps.Just opinions everybody has different tastes.

My uncle worked for Buster Brown in the "80's driving F models and MH's, they still had some DT/DR cabovers!

  11. I was working a construction job, building Margate Florida.was driving a little 6yd dump with a manual gate, some guy came up while I was dumping and asked me for directions and I forgot to grab the gate handle !! Next thing I know I'm looking at the sky!

  12. High binder, love those cornbinder snubnose cabovers ! If I could find one, might eve n consider building it instead of a"B".lots of sheet metal available, except for the "snub" itself and fenders. That's the chassis Mr wolf put the two GMC six bangers in!
  13. Brocky, that orange double bunk is about a 58 951 I think.Similar to BC Fry's legendary 12v71. You're familiar with that one right? Ran consistent triple digits in 1958 the whole length of pa,oh,in,etc. Got a ticket on the Pa t.p.90 mph.,loaded on an upgrade! Totaled it on the in.line.Put the engine in a new KW. If you aren't,Google BC Fry,Independence IA.

  14. Good to see! Too much negative stuff about truckers out there!
  15. bullhusk on the subject of tire repair,my dad used to work in an auto salvage yard in the40's. They hired old vagrant guys to do their truck tire repairs.this one fellow started beating on the ring with a sledge hammer, forgot to let out the air 1st,the ring blew off, took off both his arms!  You gotta know what you're doing on that type of tire!

  17. I preferred the one w/o the coil packs!,my son in law bought a s.b. four barrel manifold from summit, made in China! They should be ashamed,Guess you have to ask nowadays!
  18. Out behind the bar,you put a pop case between the buckets, and fold up a moving pad, very integral! If you're from beaver falls, you know what "pop" is! When I hauled Delco batteries,I used to deliver to a parts store in beaver falls, forget the name.when I was in the towing business, I sold a couple wrecks to the salvage yard there, owned by the Rogoff family.Brings back some memories. That's a sharp Brockway!
  19. The "locals and their kids" in New Hampshire aren't quite as dangerous as the Montana ones, but still require a wide berth! So does "Bullwinkle"
  20. Beatngu,Does that wrecker have a working back end? Unless time or parking issues cause an immediate need to move it,you shouldn't give it away! Don't let the old I'm tired of looking at it thing cause you to make a big financial mistake!a lot of towing outfits need a backup wrecker, and have the facilities and skills to handle the welding and engine repairs.Just say'n

  23. Kscarbel 2,,I agree totally,in fact when I posted "Buy american"I was referring to one of the many situations where you couldn't do so even if you wanted to! if you took every foreign component off any American car they'd be up on blocks! I did a survey in Home depot recently concerning tools. You cannot purchase a single American made power tool, with 2 exceptions.Very slick,Milwaukee sells a plastic tool box made here, every single one of their high dollar power tools is Chinese made. dewalt put up a very visable display of a few lower priced power tools it said MADE IN AMERICA .This was to plant the idea in the purchaser's head that all their tools are American made. Not one of their expensive tools is made here! Even the formally high quality German and Japanese tools are made in China! Bosch and Makita. I have a full set of Milwaukee and Rockwell tools from the 70's when I was in the welding business and one Japanese made craftsman grinder, from the same era,all work like new! I needed one grinder to complete my Milwaukee set.went to a pawnshop and bought a2009 grinder for 38bucks.l am Very anal about American made! Sorry, I get carried away on this subject! .

  25. now that I've gotten an infrequent political rant off my chest let's change the subject! big headline in the Tampa paper.New cranes may lift ports bottom line. Our p.o.s.unindicted white collar criminal gov.scott, and p.o.s. career politician,Marco Rubio attended the unveiling of two post panamax gantry cranes at the port of tampa.these cranes will handle any container used in world shipping.Of course they were made in China.a lot of us said couldn't we have bought American cranes? sadly it doesn't appear that there is an American company that builds a crane that large! I googled the heck out of the subject,It appears that the biggest cranes made here are the type they have in factories. whoops,I forgot we don't have any more factories! Anyway it appears that Turkey is one of the few countries( other than China,) that builds a crane that large.Nice! The article says that Tampa has so far failed to attract the biggest cargo ships from Asia, but they hope the cranes will help to drum up business! Well anyone who knows anything about business knows that you cater to those who buy your products. In this case we are catering to a polluted country that has at least one coal mine cave in a year and pays its workers subsistence wages.Oh I forgot our governor is glad they(the cranes) will bring new jobs to the area.
