  1. Actually, anyone that has a good local job such as that would be crazy to give it up to go OTR.
  2. We've discussed that here before, and as I said previously, in the past I have transplanted a 237 Maxidyne and a 285 (300) Maxidyne into trucks that had the TRQ7220 quadruplex. The TRQ7220 is the same as your TRT 72/720/7220 triplex with the exception that your triplex does not have "lo lo". You probably have the old "push type" clutch in that truck, so you'll have to use the flywheel & clutch from your present engine. Worked just fine, but like anything else, if you drive it respectfully and shift it smoothly it will hold up, and if you beat the !@##$ out of it it'll break. You'll basically be running "empty" anyhow with 8000 lbs back there.
  3. Translation: It's a super pain in the ass! .
  4. Well, at least you OWN a "Hot Dog". (the B model mixer, that is).
  5. Of course!!!! Anything for a fellow Mack fanatic!
  6. If so,....You may want to check out the Mackville Nationals truck & tractor pulls next friday thru sunday June 19, 20, & 21. 3 mi. north of Appleton on HWY 47. http://www.mackvillenationals.com/index.html A vid from the '07 pulls: My boss donates all the equipment and materials, and personnel for track maintenance every year, if you look in the background in that video, you'll see a lot of our equipment. Last year it rained heavily the morning before the pulls, and the boss brought in a 325 Cat excavator equipped with a 5' ditching bucket to scrape the slop off the track and load it into dump trucks to be hauled away and dumped behind our shop, about a mile and a half down the road.. I was lucky enough to get sent there with a dump truck, and I got "up close and personal" with some of the expensive toys in the pits. This was about an hour before the start of the pulls, and the "rescue mission" was a success - the pulls went on as scheduled. Some photos from that afternoon: Cat 325 loading a truck on the track: The boss (in the Cat 247 skidsteer) conferring with some officials: Our graders waiting to grade the track: Some "toys" in the pits: This guy was stuck in the wet grass and needed a pull: The big grader (Cat 163H) driving thru the pits: Getting loaded with slop on the track:
  7. I agree on swapping in a 237 or 285 Maxidyne. Easy swap and easy power! But: If a Cummins is really necessary, then why not just find a KTA 1150 @ 650 HP and jam it in there? .
  8. V*lv* will never offer a dump truck chassis as tough as the B81.
  9. No, Larry, you use the compound to split each of the 5 main gears. For example: Start off in 1st lo split, then shift compound to direct, then shift compound to hi split, then upshift main to 2nd, downshift compound to lo split, then direct, then hi split, upshift main to 3rd, downshift compound to lo split.....and so on, all the way to 5th hi split, with the exception that if it's a double overdrive quad box or triplex, then once you're in 4th hi split, you just shift into 5th hi split.
  10. Piston rings broken or not sealing for some reason? Valve guides defective allowing exhaust and / or boost pressure to get past the valve stems into the rocker compartment?
  11. They were used behind the gas engines and the END 465, END 475 and ENDT475 diesels.
  12. That year and engine, I'd bet on a 14" double disc pull type (dish type flywheel). Before you decide that it needs a clutch, see if the pressure plate can be adjusted. Maybe someone unfamiliar with this setup tried adjusting it at the external linkage and had unsatisfactory results. (Don't tell the seller that though, maybe you can get a steal of a deal on a truck that only needs a proper clutch adjustment).
  13. You guys are funnier than sh*t!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol!!!!!!!!!!
  14. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell me you're kidding!!!!!!!! You should never use a non detergent oil in any engine!!! That stuff is strictly for "oil can" lubrication. Regarding the OP's question, any reputable brand 15w40 diesel engine oil will work just fine in that 673.
  15. That's the "baby quad box" TRQ77 or 770.
  16. EM6285 Wrote: As long as the discussion remains civil, I see no reason to lock it. Everyone can vent here about their frustrations or hopes regarding Mack / V*lv*.
  17. Don't drill & bolt thru the top or bottom frame flange, bolt thru the side of the frame only. Usually that metal strip on top of the frame is to compensate for the thickness of the hoist frame at the front, so the dump box will sit flat instead of resting on the hoist frame at the front, and having a gap the rest of the way.
  18. I hate to burst your bubble, or fog up your rose colored glasses, but I'm going to post a quote from another trucking forum where I am a moderator. The gentleman that posted this has been a Mack truck fan for a long time, but his latest truck, a 2008, has soured him on Macks. His nickname for the truck is "Wasted Time". The truck has been back to the dealer repeatedly, but the problems just keep on happening. Also, from your post above: How do you figure the older "Real" Macks got less fuel mileage or were capable of less GCW than the new ones? .
  19. That little air cylinder was hooked up to the air line that operates the windshield wiper motor. The flap the cylinder is connected to is designed to allow the air cleaner to draw air from under the hood when it is raining or snowing. The thought behind this apparently was that when it's raining or snowing, the wipers will be on, hence connecting that cylinder to the wiper air line will ensure that the air cleaner is drawing underhood air during rain or snow conditions. The reason for drawing underhood air is to prevent sucking in rain or snow into the oil bath air cleaner and contaminating the oil bath with water. Some trucks in that time frame had a manual control on the dash for outside air or underhood air instead of the air actuated type.
  20. Glad you blanked out the emblem on that other "thing" in the background. At least you didn't have to blank anything out on that MR frontloader. .
  21. Go to the top of this page & click on "my controls" When that page comes up, then look at the menu on the L.H. side of the page and click on "Edit Avatar". You can put the link for your photo there and it will show as your avatar. There is a size limit though, so you may have to re size your photo first before entering it.
  22. You got a "International Brotherhood Of Post Repair Technicians" book??????????
  23. Did you call Dr. Laura too? .
  24. And not only that, but smooth steady pressure on the driveline in a lower gear won't damage the driveline like trying to downshift when the truck is bogged down in the sh*t.
  25. Yup, I think you did!!!!! Very nice truck. E9 in there?
