  1. Ex-municipal salt truck. DT408(destroked-466), 5spd, 2spd rear. Central hydraulics, and only 33k orig miles. Clean cab and interior, rough bed. Full sandblast/repaint, extensive rehab on bed ie cutting rust welding new plate in, new taillight buckets, new fuel tank and s.s. straps and new add-on barn door hinge kit.
  2. Getting ready to start work on this old work horse. 1978 DM685S- 237, lohole 6spd, 44k camelback. It's a good old truck and the owner loves it....I'm looking for some parts. 1-a used steel front bumper. 2-a passenger side battery box cover-large four battery cover/passenger side step. 3- a drivers side rear cab corner. And 4- passenger side fender bucket under the air cleaner. This dump is getting full sandblast and repainting and some cosmetic upgrades. If anyone has any leads pm or reply thanks!

  12. The jury is still out but I'm leaning towards keeping it but with an open mind. I agree with some of you that 10k is just plain stupid! I guess my point of view is that the business I'm in now exposes me to other Macks that are available for restoration. Not only that but now I have a place to do a restoration along with doing regular business. I guess what I'm saying I don't think this will be the last truck my dad and I will restore together. We're doing a Cruiseliner as we speak. With that being said I can not thank everyone for the nice comments and compliments! I bought the truck to learn how to do body/paint work and It turned into running my own business and it has already has brought me some business. I have a 1983 DM tandem dump scheduled to be brought in for a winter rebuild, mainly blasting,body/paint, and a brake job.
  13. Well first of let me say that I am inquiring about the selling price of my 1959 Mack B-61. After much debate I would like to put my B-61 up for sale. The only problem is I would like to price it fair and reasonable. As some of you may know my dad and I have restored this truck from the ground up. The restoration process was documented on here with pictures in the gallery. It has an ENDT673 converted with spin-on oil filters and newer oil cooler, updated spin-on style water filter, updated primary and secondary fuel filters, A Jake brake was added and head gaskets replaced, I installed a 18 spd quad box with a new clutch, the brake system was all replaced ie drums, lining, seals, cans, and slacks. It is the original type to the truck not upgraded to q-type or q-plus. It has a double frame with 44k rears and Holland air sliding Fifth wheel. Tires are tubeless 11r22.5 Dunlap with Goodyear caps on the rear and Dunlop steer tires. The entire truck was stripped to just a rolling chassis with the motor and original trans removed. Everything was sandblasted and repainted by myself with PPG paints. I have all the paperwork from the museum. I am asking yinz guys for advice on setting the price. It doesn't matter how many hours or how much money I have invested in it I just want a fair opinion of it. The reason for selling is due to a couple things. One major being a change in careers and starting of a new business of heavy truck service, body work, painting, and fleet work. I've been busy with work in the shop the last couple of months that I don't have time to enjoy the truck like I used to. So back to the point of the post, attached are a couple of pics and there are a ton in my galleries of the truck, take a look and let me know your thoughts. PM works and don't be gun shy on posting your thoughts.
  14. In my opinion any old truck is going to require maintenance and it's really up to the owner of ther truck to call it a "money pit" or not. The cost of ownership is going to be based on condition. Some pictures and more info ie engine,trans,rears,etc might help give you a ball park. Owning any antique truck is like owning any big truck, its more expensive than owning a car or light truck. The thing with a B is that one, they made 125k+ of the different varieties so they are pentiful, and two, there is an entire community and network of parts and Knowledge here at BMT. That is not to say there isnt with other antique trucks but I'd be hard pressed to find the same network as for an International Emeryville series truck as there is with older Macks. So to answer your question there is going to be have to be more info provided for the truck in question. Common problems are rust areas at the back bottom of the cab, at the the piller posts below the mirrors.

  16. Yep tucker equipment right in Lisbon. That yellow b is on CL for 1900 I believe....Really tempting but can't do that when Im starting up a business.

Every car,light truck,and heavy truck that comes in to our shop looks like what's shown in the video.In the Pittsburgh area I can say I've been seeing vehilces that look like this my entire life. I just sent out a single axle International 4700 ex-municipal salt truck to my sandbalster this morning that looks worse than what was shown. The saving grace for the truck was the fact that it (the dump body) was all built out of 1/4" plate. I think its a combo of both the corrosives used and the different types of steels used on vehicles being built today. Everything is built as a throwaway; so that vehicle manufacturers have continual new sales every few years.
  18. The few advances I've worked on are a PIA to do anything on really. The upper driveshafts are a b*tch. The only thing nice is rad/air to air changes or engine overhauls...
  19. wow! thats some awesome work thus far! $230k in receipts! Not to be a critic but at that cost I think a an air ride rear and a upgraded motor would be in line. Just my .02.
