  1. Ever change a tire in flip flops? Ever crawl under a truck in shorts? You didn't if your dressed that way! That's how these "steering wheel holders" get their name.
  2. Play it safe and get one. When you go one it's one less thing the police/dot might be able to writ you up for.
  3. http://www.cummins.com/cmi/displayMoreNewsAction.do?strTitle=%27SuperTruck%27+Yields+54+Percent+Increase+in+Fuel+Economy&strNewsSummary=%27SuperTruck%27+Yields+54+Percent+Increase+in+Fuel+Economy&strId=%2Ftemplatedata%2FContent%2FCumminsNews%2Fdata%2Fen%2FInvestorsAndMedia%2FPressReleases%2F2013%2FMarch_14_SuperTruck&dtPublishDate=2013-03-14+09%3A00%3A00.0 A look into the future...the truck of tommorrow! for some reason it reminds me of the gm aerotrains of the 50's?
  4. or a back road and large puddles....
  5. You should see the small space left after you put the counterweight back in on the passanger side.
  6. Exactly!
  7. Everyone looks at life a little different. Maybe upside down is rightside up to him hahaha
  8. Heres a recent Mack ad on Frank Bryan. http://www.macktrucks.com/assets/MackMarketing/SuccessStories/MCKTRK_6568_1_FrankBryanSS.pdf
  9. Bryan was there on second avenue for a few years then Arrow moved in. Last I heard Arrow got bought out by Essroc from West Virgina. My Dad was the mechanic at Silhol Builders in Bridgeville for 27 years. They were pretty much all Mack with some Brockways, an Autocar, and Advnace Front Discharge mixers. I have one picture of a Dravo DM Mixer before my dad rebuild it I'll have to scan.
  10. I doubt there was a connection. "Duquense Slag" are you from the area? I think I heard at one time Beaver Valley leased some trucks to Duquense Slag.
  11. I thought they might have been. My Dads says Remaley always kept there trucks in nice shape and sprayed with oil. That's prob why this one is a survivor.
  12. Pine is a softwood. Oak,poplar, maple are hardwoods. Hardwoods are stronger and will last longer. There is a difference in price. Hardwoods are more expensive.
  13. Happy birthday! Dinosaur BBQ has me picturing the beginning of the Flintstones with the rack of ribs tipping over Fred's car! Lol have a good one.
  14. @ jumper- I thought parkway center mall was pretty much closed off? That sucks for you having to go through both sets of tunnels pretty much each way to and from parkway center.
  15. Cheaper to get a cutoff, slide out the old setup, slide in the camelback, drill new holes, new hardware, and away you go. That's super simplified but you get the idea. Your air ride rears should have different brackets to mount them and have no trunnion.
  16. There is a thread over at hanks, shhh I know I know, that has the "fallen flags" of the 80s and 90s. Its literally pages and pages of old I mean old trucking companies out of business do to deregulation. I'm talking companies that had grandfathered rights given to them when they had horse and carriage and named cartage companies. Steel haulers like Aero trucking, Debolt transfer, Lakeshore Motor freight, J.Miller express, Moore Fletcher, and Point transfer all gone frieighthaulers like campbells66,mushroom, preston 151 line, consolidated freight, and penn yan all gone and matlack and so on gone. http://hankstruckforum.com/htforum/index.php?board=21.0
  17. The techs ie galv tech, metal tech, and nextech aren't easy to get to unless you're from around here. I personally think some of the roads were walking trails or wagon trails that just got paved over the years lol not a lot of thought put into the design or route lol
  18. Deregulation ruined the independents. It slashed rates and broke the union shippers. It is truly a race to the bottom. The rates advertised a decade ago are still advertised today. You can't make a decent living and expect to have a somewhat decent home life to raise a family. It also drove the true professional drivers away to another occupation and let the steering wheel holders in who have no respect for the road or the equipment. My dad was in the thick of it during the various steel hauler strikes. He was a member of F.A.S.H. He always said you don't run during a strike unless you want trouble. There were quite a few trucks "put out of commission." It was a different time but a time when you could make a good wage to support a family. Nowadays you have to do specialized heavy haul or oversize to make good money. I partial agree with you greyhair but it should be fair trade not free trade, stop tax breaks for offshoring, start tax breaks for re-shoring,start buying american, stop shopping at Walmart-95% Chinese/foreign made, and realize cheaper isn't always better. We can't be a nation of service industry. We need to be a manufacturing nation. We have to make goods and products.
  19. HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOU ALL!!!!
  20. Heres a nice and classic looking B-61 Mixer from the Pittsburgh Area. Remaley used to be on Rt.22 near Watt's Mack. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mack-Truck-/140927342477?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20cfec978d
  21. Babcock lumber is right down the road.
  22. Yep Swissvale. I wouldn't wonder in there after about 5pm cause you might not get out in one piece lol but the sandwiches are great. The place still looks the same today as it does in the link. http://www.flickr.com/photos/10077757@N00/3123095756/in/set-72157611379574387
  23. Not to mention the closeness in looks to a kenworth k123 air cleaner.
  24. Triangles makes best hoagie you can get. Battleships are legendary. "try to sink a legend" that's a steelers game day challenge!!
  25. I'm glad Mack redesigned the air cleaner to the back of the cab versus near the tires like it said in the article.
