  1. Just thought I'd chime in here. I finally got back in the the cruiseliner project. I just started tearing apart and looking at the conditions of parts of my set of neway tandems. Steve this would be the set I purchased from you. I haven't seen a tag on it yet and havent looked underneath the transverse beam to see the model number. I did get a hold of an old neway book from the brockway site and kinda narrowed it down to a ARD-244-6. Do this ring a bell? Either that or a ARD 234? I'm looking into rebushing the transverse beam, front pivot and axle pivot or which ever of them needs replaced. I've seen some urethane kits online tonight but have yet to check with the local truck parts dealer I deal with. Does anyone have any suggestions for urethane or rubber. I know urethane is much better on smaller applications and would think it would be on this too. Also after looking at the ARD 125 single axle that's in the truck it looks like there where two different air bags on it. One that looks original with a rounded over edge on the top bag plate. This would be the one I would like to use to replace the square edge bag top plate. The square edge ones look like they wear or chaff on the bag from rubbing on the bag top plate. Anyone have and suggestions? I'll post some pics tomorrow as to what im trying to describe.
  2. Older Detroits should have been sold with a steam jennie to wash off the underneath of the truck cause after a week's worth of running the rears are dripping with engine oil. I call the breather tubes "puke" tubes because of the oil thats puked out. Detroits are a good motor but they are not exactly my cup of tea. To many "issues"...too easy to get running backwards if you lug em or get pushed in gear, have them takeoff, drink oil and piss it out,you got to run them up real tight to make the power, and they are always screamin' like a banshee. To each they're own. lol
  3. I've used spray can Dupli-Color DE1604 Universal Gold for touch up on maxidyne components. Its a pretty close match. Plus it has ceramic resins in it to help in heat resistance up to 400 or 500 degree F. If you want an exact match you should take a clean flake, chip, or part to an automotive paint supply store. They should be able to set you up with a paint system ie compatible primer and paint and match the maxidyne gold perfect. I just rebuilt last winter a 1950 Packard 288 straight eight engine for a guy. I used Omni(PPG) Epoxy Primer with Omni(PPG) MAE Acrylic Enamel that I mixed to match the original Packard engine color. It has held up and I was told that it would hold up to use on all engines with the exception being exhaust parts ie turbo's,manifolds, pipes etc.
  4. Though I disagree on certain aspects of Kscarbel posts, I agree with a lot of the information and I also agree with Green Dash's opinion of Kscarbel posts as informative. The thread topic is "Is Volvo Good Or Bad For Mack Trucks?". If that's not an opinionated question, I don't know what is?
  5. From the album: June 2012

Half Boxer half Bulldog but a real gentle giant. He is wanted up in the truck because his owner, my sister, was checking out the truck with my other sister and felt left out.

A picture from the Mack Musuem. I assume possibly a concept or rendering of the orginal B-Series from the late 40's or early 50's?

Very similiar in color and setup to my Dad's G-75 he O/O hauling steel in the late 1960's and 1970's. He bought his from a local "religous revival group" who also ran a trucking company-"Brother Dan and Sister Ann". Sometime later Dan and Ann and their son also named Dan and were charged with racketteering and frauding Mack out of 7 MILLIONS DOLLARS! Anyways my Dad's G-75 had a transplant 220 Cummins (hence my screen name),triplex, and single axle with a rear tag axle. He later overhauled and added a turbo to make it a 262 cummins. He swapped out the triplex for a 14 speed quad, and added full screw 38k Camelback rears to it.He loved that truck and still kicks himself for getting rid of it.

Did a little touchup to the B while the Cruiseliner was getting some charge to the batteries.
  9. I understand where the proper accounting falls in the Net profits or net expenses columns. I'm saying you should possible entertain the fact that worker's paychecks at facilities in Hagerstown or Macgunie are supporting the local economy along with the us economy. Not all employee's paychecks of Navistar or Freightliner can do that. You need to realize the greater good by purchasing a quality and American made/assembled truck even if it is foreign parent owned. Even if the net profits do go to sweden as long as the payroll department writes checks to American workers that's what counts. Not to mention that Mack has for been the previous two decades held as a majority by Renault. Buy American Support-American workers.
  10. If you purchase a Mack made product food gets put on the table for a number of families in the hagerstown area and even more for the macgunie area. Those families spend money in the local economy and help other families put food on the table. Buy a freightliner or international you can help Mexicans support their families and take from the us economy. So kcarsbel you can prolong the recovery until 2016-2017. BUY A MACK-IT DIRECTLY HELPS US MANUFACTURING AND HELPS AMERICAN FAMILIES! Navistar and Freightliner can NOT directly guarantee that like a MACK can.
  11. In PA if a truck is under 26k GVW with air brakes you can drive the truck with a Class C (under 26,000 GVW) as long as you have an Air-Brake Endorsement meaning you took and passed the test on Air-Brakes. I rented a Ryder truck last year 26k GVW and was asked to show my CDL when signing the rental agreement. My point being, it varies from state to state. It's best to call your State Motor Vehicle dept. and get the specifics for where you live.
  12. how much for the aluminum fuel tanks? the step tanks appear to be mack are the other smooth ones also? if so, would you happen to know the capacity?
  13. I must have good a good deal on my '82 Cruiseliner. Mine is way better condition, neway air-ride, and Alcoa aluminum Budds. I only paid $2300 for it!!! I thinks this one is a little too overpriced! That B with the dump trailer looks like a good matched "time period" set.
  14. CONGRATS on the newest addition!! were expecting our first at the end of july!
  15. Just an update I did get the Security Locknut to work I had to grind just a hair (approx. 1/32") off the one side (w/o the lock "ring") to get the nut to work between the flanges for my liking. All in all the nut has worked good. I torqued it to 700 ft/lbs ts442 says between 600-920lbs manufacturer says good to 800lbs so I split the difference and have not noticed any vibration, loose feel of the yoke, or fluid loss. Id recommend the guys at Security Locknut to yinz guys here, they were pretty pleasant people to deal with. Thanks for giving me the heads up on them!
  16. Mosites is a great local construction company. They are a pretty decent sized GC here in Pittsburgh. I'm good friends with a grandson of theirs. The concrete company that my Dad worked for were used all the time by Mosites and my current employer is a sub as well. I have fond memories of them.... they've always had Macks. Check out the Superliner- http://asset-auctions.assetnation.com/index.cfm/general/LotDetail/LotNumber/A46049-0010 They also have an old Brockway i'd like to get my hands on.
  17. LLP just ratified a contract vote with the UAW this spring. http://uaw.org/articles/statement-region-9-director-scott-adams-ratification-lpp-lancaster-pa-contract
  18. Kscarbel----Mack has been exporting trucks. Take a tour of the Macgunie Plant, there are a lot of trucks tagged with "EXPORT ONLY." I've toured the plant a couple times and each time I can see a more organized and planned production facility because of Volvo's influence. Also you say that Mack has been Mack from 1950's to 2000's. The Midliners built from the early 80's onward were all Renault. What is your motivation to keep posting in here about how bad and the harm Volvo has caused for Mack?
  19. Could you have a repair/work order written up for the vechicle recovery? I used a buddy of mine's PA towing/repair plate to get my Cruiseliner back from the state of Indiana. He gave me the plate with a work order saying it's pickup and destination being his shop for repair.
  20. In Pennsylvania they're is a impact fee to correct any impact from the drilling operations and to reinvest into industry like the 1.2 billion cracker plant proposed plant in my area. I say tax the companies for impacts to the local roads, bridges, other infrastructure and any other disruption of infastructure and or the enviroment. In Pennsylvania there are a ton of bridges over streams and rivers. Many of them where built to carry heavy loads but have been lacking upkeep due to funding cuts over the years. The money shouldn't come from the taxpayer.
