  1. It's all in the gearing. A properly spec'ed driveline gets the work done. Think about all the heavy loads moved when we all had 200hp, when the Maxidyne 300 was a "large car"...
  2. And I bet you used less fuel than the CAT every day. Sometimes faster doesn't win the race.
  3. Finished product installed back on the truck over last weekend. For a working truck, I am happy with the result.
  4. A friend of mine has a backdrop 220 manifold, but he's not selling. He's had that manifold for a while, and just got the engine to go with it. Building it for his Emeryville IH.
  5. Maybe PETA should lighten up and take their kids to the circus. It might help them to enjoy life instead of trying to make everyone else miserable.
  6. In the days of mechanical engines, it was easy to tell just by the sound what type of engine any truck had. CAT, Cummins, Mack and of course 2-stroke Detroit each had their own distinctive sound. Nowadays, the Volvo/Mack is the only one I can tell just by the sound.
  7. Fuse? Wires? There is a small fuse panel under the bunk for sleeper accessories. At least there was on my 2000 model CX.
  8. These nominees are mostly people who get things done, with proven business acumen. Most are also accomplished financially, don't need the money, and are taking a huge pay cut to answer a higher calling to serve their country. This includes Donald Trump himself. He doesn't need the aggravation, he merely is attempting to help get his country back to a place we can all be proud of.
  9. Do you have the body to install on a cab & chassis? Or do you modify an existing body? Seems like that wheelbase/body combo on tandem rears should be readily available. The setup in your picture would GVW around 58,000lb. So most would have at least 350hp. I run NYC a lot and many city delivery trucks are set up this way. Check out big city dealers to find this type of truck, new or used.
  10. Not interested in Facebook, either. Mostly too much information regarding loose bowels and diminished mental capacity. There are sometimes interesting recipes for special stews, though. That part I like.
  11. Camelback springs? Worn trunnion bushings.
  12. I'm old, and I'm still here, Rob. But I'll never be as old as you.
  13. I hate to brag, but I been working on my MH tanks a bit too.(since you guys opened up the topic) Here's a good before/after picture.
  14. Seems like the '70s and '80s all over again... Mack lost a lot of market share and reputation by holding on to the 300 when the competition was in a horsepower war offering 425hp inline sixes. Too bad the "big six" museum piece never made it to market.
  15. Good way to look at it, Rowdy. I have learned to appreciate even unplanned home time. Money isn't everything. Nobody gets out alive anyhoo.
  16. 76,000 miles out of warranty? What kind of time we talking? Last turbo I warrantied was 2 years/ 150,000 miles... Unless Mack shortened the terms because of the Borg-Warner junk turbos. Never did get one as good as the OEM Schwitzer.
  17. In the '90s and 2ks, when I was hauling scrap out of Syracuse, I remember it as New Venture Gear. KS I think you're right, formerly New Process.
  18. All this fuss about whether Saddam Hussein had WMD or not, IIRC didn't we all watch surveillance video for weeks convoys of trucks REMOVING said WMD, while Congress dilly-dallied around trying to make a decision whether or not to invade Iraq?
  19. The weather man can't predict what will happen next week... Why should I believe 50-year propaganda?
  20. I had a steady run for about 2 years 2 rounds a week from Wellsville PA to Millwood, WV loaded both ways. Tough trucking across 22 in PA or I-68 take your pick, but I enjoyed it.
  21. That looks like pennex aluminum in Wellsville, PA. Hauled many loads of skimmings out in my dump truck days.
  22. The UN? Why should we believe any of their slanted, agenda fulfilling projections? I put it in the same category as man-made global warming. Whether you believe it or not, another billion in population doesn't sound like "leveling out" to me. That's a lot of hungry mouths.
  23. The bulk of my hand tools are the original Craftsman Mechanic's tool set(800 piece I believe) I bought from the catalog in 1988. I still use the top chest, the bottom has been upsized and side cabinets added over the years.
  24. Craftsman tools are available in other places, too. My local ACE hardware store sells craftsman tools.
  25. The lack of paper is replaced by Amazon cardboard boxes.
