  1. Extra testing for a new product is prudent, but selling off the 2016's before you release the 2017's is prudent as well. Follow the market and see that most automakers are overstocked with inventory. IMHO the real reason for holding back the release date. I'm sure the new 10-speed transmission has been thoroughly tested for several years.
  2. Make sure the valve stem is not under a spoke. Some wheels also have little blocks welded on each side of the stem to protect it.

  6. I must admit, I am old school, not familiar with disc brakes... Do they have a slack adjuster or are they like a car, no adjustment necessary?
  7. In NY state, a DOT officer asked me during a roadside inspection to apply 90 psi to the brakes so he could check for leaks and brake stroke!!! I told him never in my driving career have I ever seen the application gauge that high! Usually 40-50 psi is a pretty hard stop... just remember as many inexperienced drivers that are out roaming the highways, there are many inexperienced DOT officers as well. A lot don't know what they're looking at, let alone measure brakes. Just for fun at your next inspection, ask the officer what is a long stroke 30/30! Then you will know what you're dealing with.
  8. One big mistake a lot of mechanics and owners make is to regularly adjust auto slacks. Set them and forget them! Manually adjusting wears out the ratchet mechanism, causing premature failure. The only time to move them manually is backing off and re-adjusting during a brake reline. Gearhead I agree, on my own truck I prefer manual slacks, you are underneath greasing every couple weeks anyway, just take a wrench with you to hit the brake adjustment. Seems to me newer than 1996 requires automatic slack adjusters.
  9. Get the right size slacks and the pushrod length should not change. The operating angle must be maintained. Some adjusters will have a new style clevis included in the kit.
  10. A quick test is to remove the wires one at a time from each unit. Loosen the screws, no need to take them out, the wire slips off. That will disable one at a time, if you don't hear any noticeable difference in the running engine, that is your dead cylinder. Sort of like cracking an injector line on a mechanical engine.
  11. You can install automatic slack adjusters in place of your original slack adjusters. Any that you purchase will come with instructions for installing and initial setup.
  12. With US Express on board, they already have a few hundred sold. Seems incredible to me, the startup costs involved in this adventure.
  13. No matter what you're driving, how much would it cost to to go around the world? It seems like Mr Wild got paid to do it. I guess other people's money is no object to a liberal... Oh wait a minute, I forgot you EARNED your pension!
  14. I agree that's shitty business tactics. If finances were so bad at Lakeville, and Arrow, and countless others, management should have been able to see it coming and at least give employees a heads up. Seems a lot of closures occur around the holidays, too. Double shitty.

  16. No, we've been on the outside looking in, fully aware of the REASONS the union jobs went away!!! I agree NAFTA was a bad deal for American workers, but what about all the jobs that moved south to right-to-work states, and the realignment of trucking AWAY from unions? Trucks can't be outsourced overseas, but I can't blame any company of any size for attempting to cut cost and operate more efficiently. I feel quite comfortable working an honest day for honest pay, and I sleep well at night.
  17. It's called reduction in workforce through attrition. Unnecessary positions are not filled after retirement. Because you're union, they COULDN'T fire you when the cost savings might have made a difference. The USPS has been bleeding for years, couldn't survive without taxpayer dollars to prop it up. I say let it go, FedEx and UPS will figure out how to deliver mail efficiently. Snail mail is old tech, anyway. Another factor in workforce reduction is automation, they most likely can be more productive with 60 workers than what used to take 100. I still don't understand what putting a truck in a lake has to do with labor cost.
  18. Teamster Grrrl has been drinking the Kool aid too long... Thinks the union did him a favor. Early retirement is the same as saying " Go sit over there, read the paper, watch TV, whatever. Just don't touch anything, don't hurt your back!" It's cheaper to retire the old, expensive labor and hire 2 more productive youngsters in your place.

  20. Look close at the door bottom and body line, and the curved automotive type windshield. I see the standard Dodge cab used on most of their trucks through the '60s. Here's the best example I could find, a little different point of view. I concur, the rear door shape and roofline resemble a Mack R.
  21. The Teamsters tried unsuccessfully to organize Overnite with a 3-year strike 1999-2002, which the company and its employees largely ignored. Something like 1% of Overnite's employees were unionized at the time. Seems the employees were happy with the non-union arrangement. And the Teamsters lost a lot of bargaining clout after this resounding failure.
