  1. I know what you're saying LOL I wish I could deliver cars at night would make my job a whole lot easier... As quoted in an earlier post the days of STI night deliveries are long gone... Too many dumb asses in the industry that can't deliver without damage
  2. They have several other vintage Mack at Triple M Farms, at least one superliner. That B has been there at least 10 years because that was the last time I was there.
  3. I don't necessarily agree with the fuel savings estimates, either. Depends on how the truck is spec'ed. When I got my 2015 Volvo brand new D13 I-SHIFT, I made a conscious effort to run 62 miles per hour. Kept it up for about 6 months. 5.1 miles per gallon average. Got tired of everyone passing me and I felt as though I was clogging the road at times. Since then I sent my cruise at 65 or 66. Guess what? 5.1 MPG over the past year average.
  4. Gonna happen a lot more with speed governed trucks.
  5. I can see they also haul "real" cars!
  6. You old timers probably know my boss, Don Carney originally with Nu Car out of Lackawanna, NY Ford plant, and his brother Garry worked for Allied for a long time. Hence the name Brothers Auto Transport. Boss says he hires 10 new drivers to get 2 that will work out. The last 2 big teamster operations are Jack Cooper and Cassens who pretty much cleaned up all the old names. Love the old car hauler stories, keep em coming!
  7. Good example of the transfer dumps discussion in another thread.
  8. Unfortunately, I see accidents like this several times a day. Severe epidemic of distracted drivers nowadays.
  9. Trying hard now to quit!
  10. I'm still learning to haul cars after 4 years lol something new might blow my mind!
  11. Farmed out, meaning they contracted a third party, rather than do the work themselves.
  12. Transfer dumps. Fun to watch an experienced operator.
  13. I believe these were used by UPS in the Rocky mountains.
  14. I can almost understand the reasons a company would have age limits on equipment, because a lot of owners don't maintain a truck to the highest quality. But there are exceptions to every rule, and I would put your '01 up against any new tractor. It is obvious that you keep your equipment well, and you also don't have emissions or electronic related downtime common to new trucks. If you pull dump bucket, check into Page Transportation out of Weedsport, NY. I leased to them for 12 years with good success. As far as I know, they have no age limit, and run 48 States. They have gone to E-LOGS, though, regardless of your truck's age.
  15. Here is the latest cabover car hauler option, courtesy of ALF. I told the boss I would drive it if he bought it. One more car capacity than I am able to now. I might be suspicious of steer axle weight, though. On my conventional Volvo, we are routinely at 14k on the steer with only 4 cars loaded on the tractor.
  16. One for us car haulers lol
  17. The Volvo's at work are affected by the aftermarket GPS tracking connected to the OBD port. I have seen them trigger the check engine light and go into limp mode.
  18. I just drive pantsless.
  19. That's my point about the mack MH. I have experienced it, I have experienced other trucks for the past 25 years, and I am going back to what I like. Not telling anyone else what to do or think, each to his own... I don't see the point of a long hood and a 300" wheelbase, but each to his own.
  20. Hard for some to comprehend, but there are those of us that ENJOY life on the road, and there is money to be made doing a job that most people choose NOT to do. The MH Mack is IMHO one of the finest American trucks ever built. I owned and drove a V8 MH years ago, and I am putting together an E6 MH now for myself, because that is the truck I CHOOSE to operate. Isn't America great? So many choices, and the freedom to run any kind of truck you want in the pursuit of your own personal happiness. Gregg
  21. Good luck to you, but I would not want to buy anything newer than 2001. Have you investigated operating under your own authority? You seem to have good business sense and a nice piece of equipment, when there are not many choices for work, make your own. I would do what I can to hold on to that truck. I had a 2000 CX much like it and I regret to this day sold it. My .02 Gregg
  22. Typical finger-waving liberals seem to think they know what's good for us better than we do...
  23. That's all well and good Swishy thanks for the tutorial, but let's see ya do it with your right hand... Had the 10 speed version in my E9 Superliner, I vote the most enjoyable truck to drive. 5 reverse gears and 5 PTO speeds very handy for dump work.
  24. Volvo in the US has a similar 6x2 drive setup. Most road tractors don't need 2 drive axles. But I have seen new auto hauler chassis with the 6x2 driveline, that makes me a bit nervous... The low ground clearance has hung me up on driveway aprons a few times where I have to engage the power divider, or even disconnect the leveling valve and inflate the bags manually.
