  1. Try to replace coal fired plants with wind and solar farms. There won't be any FARM land left to grow food. This and the ethanol scam perpetrated upon us is why $100 worth of groceries cost $300 today. And hopefully you can afford groceries after you pay your electric bill. Thanks tree hugging liberals. Oh, that's right we don't need groceries anymore, we'll all have $6 Big Macs because the minimum wage is $15. Thanks again for meddling in the free markets. OBAMA
  2. Not every soldier is an experienced truck driver. Automatic transmissions shorten the learning curve for new operators. This is also why many civilian fleets are going with AMTs.
  3. People are sheep... they follow the nearest influence. Most are otherwise distracted with anything else but driving.
  4. Not nuts at all, I hear where you're coming from. Sometime this year I will pull the trigger and leave my current cushy company job and put my 1985 MH on the road. It's hard to go to work for a big company after being self employed.
  5. I drive an I-shift Volvo at my current job and love it. I prefer the shift control on the side of the seat(Volvo) rather than on the dash(Mack). Just read the manual and learn all the features of the transmission and it works well. Manual override, power/economy shift parameters, and integrated engine braking makes for easy driving.
  6. In the housing at the base of the upper radiator hose.
  7. Interesting to hear a teamster talk about trucking efficiently. Most I know are not too mindful of the boss's money.
  8. Truck with more horsepower and you'll get home sooner
  9. Don't know where you are but Service Tire based in Bethlehem Pennsylvania has what you need. They have branch locations from Baltimore up to new England.
  10. I'm all for new technology, but 2 items jump out at me regarding the Nikola One... they claim weight savings yet list the dry weight at 21,000 lbs making it at least 2 tons heavier than most standard sleeper trucks in service today. And although 3,700 lb/ ft of torque sounds impressive, how will wheels, tires, and other chassis components hold up to torque loads double what is common today?
  11. Paul I'm sure you know about this lol Long Island is ground zero for regulatory shenanigans
  12. Funny but all the drillers and frackers around me in PA are out of work too since the price of crude oil dropped. Government manipulation and OPEC world markets have made that happen, too. Ten years ago we were told " the oil price is too high! Our economy can't tolerate $140 oil!" Now it seems cheap oil is bad for us, too. Check the Saudi connection on that one, OPEC can still be profitable at $30 a barrel, that's why they have flooded the market, to keep the price down and eliminate alternate sources of energy. Oil and coal are still the most cost effective energy sources if you strip away the regulatory burden.
  13. Part of my point in previous post. Let the free market drive the technology. Government mandates only cripple the economy. When we run out of coal & oil, then alternative energy will become viable and cost-effective.
  14. Because now all those miners and truckers and tug boat men and their families and all the support industries (truck & equipment repair, restaurants, suppliers etc. etc.) have lost their income and take welfare DUMB ASS it's all part of the socialist agenda... a government that provides for you also controls you. I have some respect for Bernie Sanders at least he is honest about what he is. Obama has been lying to us for eight years about his socialist agenda. Millions of Americans out of work on the government take, all while we have at least 200 years of coal reserves in the ground. God forbid we should use dirty, polluting coal that MIGHT cause a few premature deaths, but it's OK for the tree hugger windmills to kill 4,200 eagles a year.
  15. These measure 42" to the base not including the bulldogs. I drilled extra holes because I had them mounted on a setback axle CX. I would sell them for $100 plus shipping. Gregg
  16. I will measure them and send pictures when I get home from work this evening
  17. I got mine complete with miniature dogs from my dealer TransEdge Mack in Allentown PA about 10 years ago, don't know if they are still available. I may be persuaded to sell them since all I have now is cabover trucks.
  18. Where do you purchase the aluminum bungs for the tank hydraulic fittings? I am looking for the same thing to convert a fuel tank. Gregg
  19. To get BAA-AACK to where he started.
  20. Unfortunately, for every responsible sensible operator like yourself, there are 10 dumbasses out there who don't get the proper permits or know how to set the air pressure on their lift axles. The laws are basically idiot-proof to protect us from the idiots LOL. We have a local problem here in East Bangor with tri axles running into the Quarry with waste material from New Jersey and New York City... running overweight dodging the scales and wreaking havoc at every turn. Mostly immigrant operators working for chump change... I guess you get what you pay for.
  21. I have some F model service manuals, I will look if there is anything for your Western F. I bought an RW721LST from Jerry a few years back, wish I still had it. He's a good guy with a lot of neat trucks.
  22. Good luck with the F! Cool truck looks like got a good home. Check the Wiki pages on BMT, pretty sure a lot of wiring diagrams are posted. Methinks I printed one out for my RW a few years ago.
  23. And the same 20' wheelbase tri-axle in NJ is legal for 80,000 gvw. Go figure. Not enough brakes to stop 40 tons IMHO, assuming the lift axle will bounce and lock up in a panic stop anyway.
  24. Pandering to a small minority. Ask most people of any race or gender, they don't care whose face is on the $20, nor do they even know who Andrew Jackson or Harriet Tubman is. What a waste of taxpayers money.
  25. Are your wheels hub pilot? On my CX the centering tabs on the hub were worn, not able to center the wheel. The only thing that saved me from buying new hubs is a product called TRU-BALANCE. It is a sleeve for the wheel studs that keeps hub pilot wheels perfectly centered. I highly recommend this, and keep them in my toolbox.
