  1. I hauled cars for Allied Systems for a while a few years ago. You always measure the height of your load before you head out with it, and you always have to have an eye for overhead obstacles when you're driving a car carrier because you don't want to so much as put a scratch on a new car most dealers check them pretty close when you deliver them. And there's nothing on the overhead deck to keep you from driving off the end like that guy did. Looks like those guys got some explaining to do to their boss! Lol!

Hitting an bridge is cardinal sin #1 at Brothers Auto Transport. Means you didn't stick your load or you're on the wrong road.

  2. It's nice to be able to go to places you've been before, like I do most of the time. But there was a first time I went to everywhere i've ever been too, as it is for everyone. Jobsite deliveries are the worst, some of the places we've taken the crane mats to in West Virginia and Pa. are not good places to be in a truck either, they might be off on some dirt road in the middle of nowhere, but you have to do it.

About all you can do is call the job site and hope they give you good directions. I went across rt. 16 from rt. 42 back over to I-81 once, not knowing any better. It was down right scary! Now it has a 35' length restriction on it but it didn't when I went across it.

Back in my former life of dump truckin', I delivered many a load of railroad track materials down deep in WV. (We delivered tie plates & spikes in bulk, track & ties came by flatbed.) Many jobsites were so far out, the foreman would tell you on the phone " just meet me at so-and-so store or gas station, because you'll never find us and your phone ain't gonna work down here"

  3. There is an airline going to the puff limiter- plug it or put a valve on it.

Previous owner of my MH had a slick set up. Air switch under the seat to turn the puff limiter on/off. Back when NJ was checking smoke pretty hard.

  4. Perhaps I should have clarified: My kids have wrestled within the Lehigh Valley Intramural Wrestling League and haven participated at events held in (if I remember correctly a community center) Bangor.....Could have been the high school, too.

I won't let them wrestle the likes of which you spoke- they would probably kick the halfway-down pants wearing pansies asses and send them off crying to their mommies.

If you've been to Bangor high school you were a stone's throw from my house I live about a mile up from five points. depending on the age group, they might have had events downtown at the Beehive community center or down by Martins Creek at the old Centerville school.

I always have time to stop and site see in hellertown, I can never seem to get passed exit 67 without a traffic jam lol I 78 is almost as bad as route 22 anymore!

  5. Damn Underdog we're practically neighbors.......My kids have wrestled in Bangor!!!!

One needs to practice caution and up most decorum while wrestling in downtown Bangor in order to avoid accusations of harassment. The young men already have their pants halfway down and the wimmin folk generally go to market with pajamas and fuzzy slippers. Tough to put a hold on anyone without appearing inappropriate.

  6. I ventured out to the store to get some beer snacks for watching the Daytoner 500 and swung by the dumpster to drop off some trash just now. The road is still slush covered in most places, but it's up to 36 degrees and I cut tracks almost down to the pavement in the Ranger pickup. One pass up and back with a plow now would clean everything, but i'm not expecting that to happen. And it's just going to re-freeze tonight.

We got a nice break today up to 40 degrees in Bangor, PA after 6 more inches of snow last night. Forecast for below zero again by Monday morning, though. Gotta put my under armour on again tomorrow[emoji107]
  7. Good old song (sad) its called just "Pinball Machine" recorded by Lonnie Irving in 1962. Flip side of the 45 was "Sleeper Cab Blues" pretty sure the one that mentions Galipolis was "Gooseball Brown" also Lonnie Irving I think?..........................................Mark

Probably right on that... Been awhile since I heard some of those old songs. Used to be a 2-hour show on SiriusXM Road Dog channel just trucking songs. Wish they would bring that back.

  8. Isn't Gallopolis,Ohio where the old hog hauler shot the pinball machine and caused him bad luck. I forgot the name of the song some old timers on here should remember it. Joe D.

Not quite an old timer yet, Joe but I know the song... Pinball Blues by Coleman Wilson I believe.

Gallipolis is just across the river from Point Pleasant, WV. Everybody knows that.

  9. Many fleets nowadays want o/o's to have newer "more reliable" trucks. This policy says more about the quality of operator than about the truck itself. Fewer and fewer operators are capable mechanically to keep a truck up & running after the warranty runs out.

Requiring newer equipment gives the company an opportunity to enter into a lease purchase agreement that ALWAYS works in the operators favor...

IMHO if the truck can pass a federal DOT inspection it shows that you as an operator are capable of maintaining your

truck. That is all a company should need to know.

  10. After i was told by my doctor in 2013 i could get my CDL Back after Loosing them in 2007 due to health problems . Now that i have my health back & loosing 150lbs , the State of TN Said that id have to have an automatic Due to the Ceberal Palsy In my left side . So i fought them the 1st time back in the mid 90's when i 1st got my Class B & proved to them i could drive a Duplex, triplex & quadbox . matter fact i took my test in the 77'DM Mack dump we had @ the time w/ 237 & 2 stick 6spd . But this time im thinking of letting them have thier way as a Auto would be eaiser on me due to how my left side likes to lock up a little more esp during the cold winter months . I Just hope they dont totally restrict me to an Auto .

Now days i help a couple of buddies cut grass & do quite a bit of landscape work. I Still haul recaps for my buddies in the tire business some (that helps keep my sanity of being around a truck ) but the lawncare & staying in the gym helps keep me in shape & helps keep my CP a Little more limber & my body doesnt get as tight as when i was in the operators & drivers seat all the time .

I'm wanting to go out on my own either this year or next w/ my own lawn care service & start off w/ a few small yards But a few years after that id like to have a small single axle dump to go w/ the lawn service & haul the small loads of dirt, sand, mulch, pro mix, & gravel. i would buy a small dump w/ a manual But in my case & the long run due to my left side im getting where i perfer a automatic in everything i drive even my personal rides .

    :mack1:

The physical activity definitely helps, Bulldog man. That's the part about my job that I enjoy the most. Moving around the truck loading and unloading cars plus the walking involved to fetch cars keeps me in shape and I've lost 30 pounds since I started this job 3 years ago I feel better than I did 25 years ago. But after four stops on Long Island yesterday that automatic sure feels nice coming back across the Cross Bronx Expressway makes for an easy ride home after a long day.

  11. I drive an I-shift Volvo for work and enjoy the ride all day. I too am wondering how it can handle the torque with a single countershaft. Best I can figure is with integrated drive line and computer control, torque can be limited and applied virtually eliminating shock load. Brothers Auto Transport has mostly standardized on the I-shift due to the fact that DRIVERS (or should I say NON-DRIVERS) create most clutch/transmission failures.

    Just my 2 cents
