  1. The new part number could be a VOLVO thing. Slowly all the part numbers are switching over. I got new springs ( 3 leaf ) for my CX last December and have been having support issues as well. Upgraded by adding a fourth leaf for 1800 lb. added capacity. I don't mind the ride and the truck holds the road better now with added control. Gregg
  2. Hi Rob, My crane is an RO Stinger. It was originally mounted on a 1974 Ford chassis and transferred by the previous owners to the current 1986 GMC. Polly only allowed the purchase of said crane to facilitate repair of the F607T. However, a visionary such as myself anticipates many uses for such a machine. I only have to endure a short term of wrath until Polly's thought process catches up to mine. Gregg
  3. I never thought much about having a piece of equipment like that boom truck, but it has come in handy for my own use and I can also foresee some income potential. It has already attracted attention just sitting in the yard. I will keep you all posted with pics when I start on the F model. I have decided to repair the existing engine, but it has to come out to replace the crankshaft. I want to keep the F607T original as it is a good solid early F model. Not many of those left. Gregg
  4. Barry, I searched the archives and came up with the original image. It is a pretty cool shot because it also shows the test track at the Mack Customer Center. This photo was taken at the open house 10/30/2010.
  5. I have two recent aquisitions to share... not Macks, but interesting anyway: 1986 GMC diesel with 8 ton boom. I purchased this unit to pull the engine out of my F model, but a rig like this makes itself useful in many ways. Here it is helping me change a drive axle spring on my CX. 1966 Hyster lowbed trailer. A vintage wagon to hook behind my F607T. Will make a nice combo. Gregg
  6. Here are Underdog's submissions for review.
  7. I fixed this problem with a product called "Tru Balance". It consists of sleeves mounted on the wheel studs to keep the wheel and drum perfectly centered on the hub. Saved me from buying a new hub.
  8. A good time had by all! My 10-year-old daughter Maggie had a blast. Lots of activities for the kids. Dad had fun too with a good turnout of trucks and tours of the plant. At one point I asked Maggie if she felt bad for the VOLVO people... the Mack Shop was swarmed with customers as we looked over at the empty Volvo store. "Should we go at least browse the Volvo merchandise?" Her reply? "NAAAHHH!!!" I have to give credit to Volvo and all who contributed for sponsoring a wonderful event. Gregg
  9. At 62 to 65 MPH you may want 3.70 or even 3.90 axles to keep the RPM's happy in high gear. Another option is to spec faster axles (3.58 or 3.36) and a direct transmission for better fuel economy. I agree with Ken the SCR trucks are less trouble than older EGR trucks and you can spec the gears you want if you order brand new. Gregg
  10. I second the motion. Your R seems to be in good condition and well set up for the required task. Cheaper to keep 'er. Gregg
  11. Abdul is one hell of a businessman... figgered out how to sell sand to arabs in the desert! And he has the right equipment for the job!!! Gregg
  12. Underdog will be there... I have missed almost the entire season of shows being so busy at work (making hay while the sun shines!), but this being a special one time event, I took off a few days ahead to be sure I and my truck will be ready! Look for me with my CX613, as it is the only iron that I have up & running at this time. This truck is my HAYMAKER so it has taken priority over the antiques and consequently most of my time this summer. We are both looking forward to a great weekend in Hagerstown. Looks like even the weatherman may be kind to us on Saturday! Gregg
  13. Mom always said I was special... That's why I got to ride the short bus to school! And now I get to play with dump trailers. I am sensible enough to have a functioning PTO indicator lamp in the dashboard; would have saved this driver and his boss a lot of grief. Gregg
  14. Nice pics. I hope the east and west bound locomotives were adequately separated in the time/space dimension. Gregg
  15. I didn't know they built trucks in Plainfield. It was World headquarters before Allentown office opened in 1970 and the engine plant until Hagerstown opened in 1961. Both my F's 1963 and 1970 were built in Allentown. The 1963 has Plainfield,NJ on the door tag because that's where HQ was at the time. Gregg
  16. This truck originally belonged to a local milk hauler with a reputation for clean & well maintained equipment. IMHO it is a roadworthy truck as is. I have too much on my plate to bring this one home right now. Gregg
  17. There are ways I can get a title for this truck. If a buyer wants the complete truck and a title, I will get that done. I apologize for not responding sooner, however my computer time is limited and I am seeing some older posts for the first time. I also have a plate full of other projects and this B has been on the back burner. Gregg
  18. A good fair tax would be a consumption tax. Do away with income tax and in its place a national SALES tax on goods and services. No matter then where your money comes from or how much you have, everyone pays a fair share according to the goods or services you can afford to buy. Gregg
  19. My '63 F607 has the left side starter. If it is a glider, I would assume the duplex came along with the 673 engine. Gregg
  20. First thing is to get those Continental tires off of there!!! I have had 3 sets of Continental steer tires over the years and they all start to bounce after around 50,000 miles. Frustrating because they do not show any signs of abnormal wear, they just bounce like broken belts inside. I always wear them out on the trailer and have never had a tire fail, but they sure do shake on the steer axle! Gregg
  21. The KW dealer is at exit #188 Dunmore. I am not sure you can see their yard from I-81.
  22. And the best part... Larry is a helluva nice guy, too! I couldn't hang around for the awards, Larry, but congrats on all the bling. I got back on the road Thursday night after the music. Certainly was nice to meet and visit for awhile. Gregg
  23. Rob, I put in a request for dispatch to run me through Walcott, Iowa 80 toward the end of next week, so I hope to meet you there. Gregg
  24. Pics of the floor in OK condition definitely workable. I will get more detailed pics if anyone is interested. I believe the round fuel tank to be already sold. I have a matched pair of square tanks that can go with the truck. Gregg
  25. Here is the B-61LST I have for sale. No title but I drove it 10 miles home recently. It has a starter or wiring problem as it melted a battery post last time I started it. I got this truck only because it is too nice for the scrapyard. I have no time for another project and would just like to see the truck or its parts go to good use. Gregg
