  1. The new part number could be a VOLVO thing. Slowly all the part numbers are switching over.

I got new springs ( 3 leaf ) for my CX last December and have been having support issues as well. Upgraded by adding a fourth leaf for 1800 lb. added capacity. I don't mind the ride and the truck holds the road better now with added control.

  2. Ptiman, or RO Stinger? Either one are really good units until you need parts that are proprietary. I have a hydro-cable crane on an IH R-190 chassis and it's damned hard to imagine not having something like it.

    Rob

Hi Rob, My crane is an RO Stinger. It was originally mounted on a 1974 Ford chassis and transferred by the previous owners to the current 1986 GMC. Polly only allowed the purchase of said crane to facilitate repair of the F607T. However, a visionary such as myself anticipates many uses for such a machine. I only have to endure a short term of wrath until Polly's thought process catches up to mine.

  3. I never thought much about having a piece of equipment like that boom truck, but it has come in handy for my own use and I can also foresee some income potential. It has already attracted attention just sitting in the yard.

I will keep you all posted with pics when I start on the F model. I have decided to repair the existing engine, but it has to come out to replace the crankshaft. I want to keep the F607T original as it is a good solid early F model. Not many of those left.

  4. I have two recent aquisitions to share... not Macks, but interesting anyway:

1986 GMC diesel with 8 ton boom. I purchased this unit to pull the engine out of my F model, but a rig like this makes itself useful in many ways.

Here it is helping me change a drive axle spring on my CX.

1966 Hyster lowbed trailer. A vintage wagon to hook behind my F607T. Will make a nice combo.

  5. If you have hub piloted wheels you might check the pilot area on the hub. If the wheels were left loose at some point they could have worn the pilot on the hub which will cause the wheels to not be mounted concentrically to the hub/axle spindle.

I fixed this problem with a product called "Tru Balance". It consists of sleeves mounted on the wheel studs to keep the wheel and drum perfectly centered on the hub. Saved me from buying a new hub.

  6. A good time had by all! My 10-year-old daughter Maggie had a blast. Lots of activities for the kids. Dad had fun too with a good turnout of trucks and tours of the plant.

At one point I asked Maggie if she felt bad for the VOLVO people... the Mack Shop was swarmed with customers as we looked over at the empty Volvo store. "Should we go at least browse the Volvo merchandise?" Her reply? "NAAAHHH!!!"

I have to give credit to Volvo and all who contributed for sponsoring a wonderful event.

  7. At 62 to 65 MPH you may want 3.70 or even 3.90 axles to keep the RPM's happy in high gear. Another option is to spec faster axles (3.58 or 3.36) and a direct transmission for better fuel economy. I agree with Ken the SCR trucks are less trouble than older EGR trucks and you can spec the gears you want if you order brand new.

  8. Underdog will be there... I have missed almost the entire season of shows being so busy at work (making hay while the sun shines!), but this being a special one time event, I took off a few days ahead to be sure I and my truck will be ready!

Look for me with my CX613, as it is the only iron that I have up & running at this time. This truck is my HAYMAKER so it has taken priority over the antiques and consequently most of my time this summer. We are both looking forward to a great weekend in Hagerstown. Looks like even the weatherman may be kind to us on Saturday!

  9. I live here and don't like it!! But family obligations keep me here. Pulled a Steco demo trailer for Horan Sand and Gravel in the early 80's. Takes a special person to run a dumptrailer in my opinion....just not me. Paul

Mom always said I was special... That's why I got to ride the short bus to school! And now I get to play with dump trailers. I am sensible enough to have a functioning PTO indicator lamp in the dashboard; would have saved this driver and his boss a lot of grief.

  10. This truck originally belonged to a local milk hauler with a reputation for clean & well maintained equipment. IMHO it is a roadworthy truck as is. I have too much on my plate to bring this one home right now.

  11. was thinkin that myself,,but has no papers,that scares people,its not a big deal,,generally after 3 years,,its out of the system,and they give you a fresh title.bob

There are ways I can get a title for this truck. If a buyer wants the complete truck and a title, I will get that done.

I apologize for not responding sooner, however my computer time is limited and I am seeing some older posts for the first time. I also have a plate full of other projects and this B has been on the back burner.

  12. I thought Ross Perot first started the flat tax thing.

But as we all know, those that would pay lots more would just hide it some where and be taxed at $ 23,000/year

A good fair tax would be a consumption tax. Do away with income tax and in its place a national SALES tax on goods and services. No matter then where your money comes from or how much you have, everyone pays a fair share according to the goods or services you can afford to buy.

  13. Kinda like the "BCR" trucks(a B model into an R model).

One question: Did they have left side starter back in the 60's. I'm thinking it's a 2 stick 6 spd, not a duplex. Someone might have slipped that old motor in to replace a blown up 237? If it is a 6 spd, I bet it's a real dog with that ol 180 hp motor.

My '63 F607 has the left side starter. If it is a glider, I would assume the duplex came along with the 673 engine.

  14. Have a 01 CH 613 day cab,E-7,10 speed eaton, 12 k front, 36k rear(company truck), truck is used as a low-boy,we also have a sister truck used as an end dump we both have the problem with a front end shake at around 52 mph. It is worse when loaded.we have 11r22.5 continental steer tires.mine has the bags in them the other has been spun balanced.we have been playing with the toe trying to get around 1/16 toe in.we have checked the front ends for loose parts and are not finding anything so I'm just wondering if any body else has had this issue we are at a loss at this point!!

First thing is to get those Continental tires off of there!!!

I have had 3 sets of Continental steer tires over the years and they all start to bounce after around 50,000 miles. Frustrating because they do not show any signs of abnormal wear, they just bounce like broken belts inside. I always wear them out on the trailer and have never had a tire fail, but they sure do shake on the steer axle!

  15. Dunmore is the east side of Scranton. Right where 81 and 84 meet. Its where 81 north had the bridge column at the end of the ramp. I'll look for the KW dealership next time I'm through there. As many times that I've driven that road I'm suprised I never noticed it.

The KW dealer is at exit #188 Dunmore. I am not sure you can see their yard from I-81.

  16. That's right I've lost my nuts again. I purchased two retaining nuts for the drive yoke on my Fuller transmissions and now can't find em. Gonna need to purchase a couple more tomorrow and sure as I do, they will be located.

Got my plates today, "80 Mack" that are antique registered. Hope to have this truck at I80 next weekend, (or whenever it is) but have to get this trans back in first. It is all ready to slip in except for getting the yoke changed out and torqued down.

    Rob

    Rob,

I put in a request for dispatch to run me through Walcott, Iowa 80 toward the end of next week, so I hope to meet you there.

Here is the B-61LST I have for sale. No title but I drove it 10 miles home recently. It has a starter or wiring problem as it melted a battery post last time I started it. I got this truck only because it is too nice for the scrapyard. I have no time for another project and would just like to see the truck or its parts go to good use.
