  1. I wish you luck in your search. I did not realize that '02 and newer has a different wheel. There was a guy by the name of Rich that used to work at D.J. Smith's who was always a big help to me. The ownership has not changed but Rich is no longer there. Gregg
  2. I went through Kenly on the 16th on our way to Disney. Some wicked bad storms with tornados that day, I-95 was closed for 2 hrs for debris and wrecks. I hope they have better weather today. Also thoughts and prayers to anyone affected by the recent rash of storms across the country. Seems like we can't get a break from the weatherman this year. Gregg
  3. I am continually baffled by women and their antics. Gregg
  4. I never did like those plastic pod mirrors on the CX. The glass never stays still and vibrates until all internal parts (plastic)are worn and loose. There is a stretch of State Route 611 along the Delaware River near me that we call "the narrows". Very important to stay on your side of the yellow line. When a rookie quarry truck driver failed to do so, we smacked mirrors and I took the opportunity to change out mirrors. Very happy to have done so, also like my heated convex spot mirrors. Gregg
  5. Isn't that what POS means?!? Peterbilt On Shoulder. Gregg
  6. My only question is was the Obamabobble facing forward or to the rear? Surely the front end mishap could have been avoided if the "Anointed One" had been looking ahead rather than backward. Gregg
  7. The first few years of the CX were not even available with Mack driveline. My first choice would have been all Mack as well, but I bought mine off the lot and got a hell of a deal as the dealer really wanted to move the truck. Eaton super 10 and spicer axles 1.2 million miles and counting...original U-joints as well. Also 600 lbs. lighter than Mack components. I would say my specs have proved worthy and paid for themselves with extra payload over the last 10 years. Gregg
  8. I am quite pleased with the sound resulting from the home made exhaust on my Thermodyne. 6" hollow square tube into dual 4" pipes. Rob is right the NA engines make a sweet song. Just dont mess up your 2-stick shifting 'cause everyone will hear.
  9. Chewey, I got a wood wheel for my 2000 CX from a chrome shop in upstate NY years ago. The name of the shop is D.J. Smith Truckers Chrome, inside the Petro truck stop in Waterloo, NY. (315)539-4108. The owner has several Macks so he always is helpful to Mack owners. I also have the box my wheel was shipped in. Originally came from a company called "Vehicle Improvement Products" located in Antioch, Illinois. (847)395-7250. These phone numbers are a few years old, hope the info is helpful. Make sure you get a wheel with an extended collar to give clearance to the turn signal switch. The first one I got had to be returned; it was so close to the switch I couldn't click the headlamp dimmer. D.J. Smith was able to exchange it for the extended wheel. 8 years old now still looks good. Good quality wheel. Gregg
  10. On many new cars, turn signals are optional... It is tough to hold the phone and hit the lever at the same time.
  11. Now I see why you removed the air compressor... to make room for the BIG tank.
  12. I also am a big fan of heated spot mirrors. Got 'em wired up on my Vision. I am surprised that none of the eagle-eyes on this site ever noticed the old-school CH mirrors on my CX. Gregg
  13. I don't know if any others make a convertible 5th wheel, but Holland makes one set up from the factory for frameless dump. I bought one new take-off from my Mack dealer in 2007 and it has been trouble free. Gregg
  14. The O/O's are the smart businessmen, then.
  15. I like my straight pipes on my Vision. LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES... If I can JAKE interrupt one phone call or text each day, perhaps the life I save will be my own. Gregg
  16. Lots of the big dump outfits in the region run Macks. Gibco, Beelman, etc. and ME when I get out that way. Gregg
  17. I think you should leave it mounted in the Ranger for those unexpected road calls. Looks good cruising to the Tastee-Freez as well. Seriously, the right compressor makes tire work so much easier. I upgraded a couple years ago when my neighbor sold me his single stage 80 gallon compressor, similar to your new one. I have been very pleased with it and I am sure you will enjoy your new purchase. Gregg
  18. Welcome aboard, Chadro. Anyplace is MACK country if you have it in your heart. We are all here because we love Macks, even though some drive Peters they dream about Macks... Gregg
  19. As I intend to use my trucks on a regular basis, I like to update them for safety and convenience when possible. Take advantage of advances in technology over the years. Gregg
  20. My '63 F originally had no turn signals at the rear. It makes some sense that tractors were made to be hooked to a trailer. Gregg
  21. That's right, Rob. Look into the mirror and blame the heating element when it cracks. Gregg
  22. Ther has been a trend recently to spec "faster" axles with a direct transmission to take advantage of low RPM engines and maximize fuel economy. Some "experts" advocate ratios in the 2.65-2.88 range. Seems odd, but just not what we are used to seeing. For many years the trend was for overdrive transmissions. A direct drive will net better fuel economy, but beware of startability in the low gears. Gregg
  23. Thanks for the tip, Rob. I noticed the F785 I just got has fittings similar to what you describe, Though they are not Mack tanks. I also put in a bulkhead fitting to run the fuel line for my auxiliary bunk heater. Gregg
  24. Oh, I see. You like the Ohio side where DOT hangs out in Powhatan Point.
  25. I have been living with this for 11 years now. I haven't figgered it out yet. Annoying, ain't it? Gregg
