  1. That is an interesting point of view! I always considered the hood in the middle and the cab off to the left! Everything I have known up to this point in my life has been thrown into question! My head is going to explode Gregg (I think!?!)
  2. Grant, I have a line off the governor on my thermodyne F- model to supply the shutterstat. I think it was done this way to save a long run from the tank. I hope this helps with your mystery. Gregg
  3. Greetings! You know how it goes, busy, busy, busy. Not much free time to chat. I have been trying to get my F-model in shape to make some shows this summer, and I have actually been running the road pretty hard this year, work broke loose after New Years and hasn't slowed down. That's a big change from last year. One of these years I will step into the 21st century and get a laptop so I can check in while I am in the truck.
  4. I would not give one penny to Progressive insurance. It is wise to know the politics of companies you do business with. Although I wouldn't mind having Flo over for afternoon tea.(wink, wink)
  5. Mackmann I am surprised OOIDA even quoted you. I have checked with them several times over the years and they will not cover my dump trailer due to the increased liability of rollover. Here is my current agent, good service and a competitive rate: Ed Konopki, Jr. @ Eastern Insurance Group Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702-7980 phone 570-819-2000 fax 570-819-4000 This year I am under $3,000 for liability and phys. damage. I am under permanent lease so I don't have cargo insurance. I think you will find that cargo insurance is required as per federal regs.
  6. When I got my '63 F-model it had 2 12 volt batteries and a broken post on the series-parallel switch, so I decided to eliminate the switch and wire the starter direct 12 volt. I reasoned that money saved on a new switch could be spent on replacing the 24 volt starter motor with a 12 volt unit if needed. So far though I have not spent that money, as the 24 starter cranks fine on 12 volts. Also, for ease installing electrical accessories and to avoid confusion with jumper cables, etc. I converted to negative ground. The starter is not polarized, and as I recall the voltmeter and fuel gauge wires are swapped for neg. ground. I used the Mack Service manuals for my upgrades as they have all the schematics for 12 or 24 volt start systems as well as pos. and neg. ground systems.
  7. Try to make it Friday AND Saturday! This year was my first time at the Reunion picnic and it's a great time to hang with friends and meet new ones! Plus if you stay close by you can maximize your time on Saturday. Lots to see- almost 600 trucks this year!
  8. The only disappointment was that I didn't run into Doug Maney. Fantastic show this year and it was my first time at the family reunion. You are correct sir, a good time had by all ! Don't forget the music, too, provided by CITIZEN'S BAND RADIO who not only rocked Friday and Saturday but travel in their own vintage bus ! How appropriate for the ATCA meet.
  9. Irishflyer, I have a 2000 vision 427 with 1,055,000 miles and counting. The cam was done at 720,000. Other than that, a set of cylinder heads and bottom end bearings over the years. This truck is very reliable and I have no doubt it will serve me another million miles.
  10. A simple fix on air ride suspension is the correct ride height. There is a specific measurement for this and any change to ride height will affect driveshaft angle and cause a vibration.
  11. On my E-TECH engine a 1-1 code indicates a voltage issue with the oil pressure sensor. Oil pressure is probably OK, just an electrical fault with the wiring or sensor.
  12. You have inadvertently tipped your hand, Rob. If you were truly of Nobel prize caliber in the genius genus, then you would also be aware that AL GORE (Nobel prize recipient) has already determined that in the very near future there will be NO ICE available to cool our brakes, due to global warming.
  13. I certainly appreciate all the responses, and I did have my mind made up to keep what I've got. HOWEVER, this latest development deserves further consideration.......
  14. Thank you one and all for the responses. If I must choose one answer from the three provided I am going with the moisture separator, judging by the location in the system. Besides, my JEANYOSOSITY tells me it is so. Gregg
  15. As for you, I need to put you in a metal box in the darkest corner UNDER my basement. I don't want little Maggie to see you and have bad dreams. YOU IS SCARY !!!
  16. Some of history's greatest artists were considered to be eccentric during their lives. Only when they are gone is the genius truly appreciated... Life is only as serious as you allow it to be. You gotta be a little crazy or you might go insane! Gregg
  17. A frameless trailer puts your pivot point across the rear axle, much lower to the ground than on top of the framerails of a frame type trailer. There are no pins & bushings to wear out or service at the rear of a frameless. Also you have a tripod stabilizing the front half of the trailer, rather than relying solely on the hoist and two pins. Side loading the hoist increases the chance for piston failure. At the very least the pins & bushings wear faster, and loose pins at the hoist or at the rear inceases your chance of an unintended side discharge.
  18. That is what I thought, and purge is activated by brake application. Since I have installed an AD-9 air dryer I will put this Wagner unit in the box marked "posterity".
  19. I don't want to start an argument about physics and geometry, but IMHO a frameless is inherently more stable than a full frame of the same length. Conditions that cause rollovers are the same for both(unlevel/unstable ground, stuck/uneven load, operator error, etc.). Any of these will cause any trailer to fall. I have dumped in many different locations over the years and will NEVER give up my frameless to go back to a frame trailer. The frame does have the advantage of being able to be spec'ed to carry more weight, but for my operation grossing 80,000lb.(more when I can get away with it), I will dump my frameless anywhere they pay me to.
  20. I am re-plumbing the air system on my 1963 F-model and came across this component: My best guess would be some sort of air dryer or moisture removal, activated by brake application. I have not had any luck researching the part number; apparently it is an obsolete item. Part number on the top is "WAGNER AE-21882" on the bottom is "WAGNER AD-21884". The location gives no clue, either. It is plumbed between the reservoir and the drive axle service brake chambers, Teed in to the outlet of the quick release valve. Any help solving this mystery would be helpful. Thanks guys. Gregg
  21. Check the trolley valve. Some trucks, especially if it was originally a straight truck, had the trolley plumbed to activate the drive axle brakes. Also, check my latest post regarding a "WAGNER brake component". This may relate to your problem. My brakes were working OK but that component was installed between the reservoir and the drive axle service chamber. An answer has been posted on the "Mystery Component" thead. If your H has the same moisture separator as my F, a defect in this component could cause an air leak to the chamber.
  22. Notice in the last few years the terminology has changed. The ENVIRO-NUT JOBS now refer to it as "climate change", no longer "global warming". So far 1998 has been the warmest year on average, and average temps have been lowering for the last ten years. No one can predict the NATURAL climatic cycles of mother earth, nor should we try to change it. This is all part of the greatest HOAX perpetrated on mankind the end game being to destroy the few capitalist economies that remain and promote one world socialist government. DON'T FALL FOR IT, PEOPLE!
  23. Underdog

    Oh No!

Here is the H-model from my calendar, Tom. See what you can do with it!
  24. Underdog

    Oh No!

Looks like the OBAMA Hope & Change Express tour bus. Coming soon to a town near you. Notice the "GREEN" bonnet.
  25. Any code 8 is for fuel injectors, and 8-2 is specifically injector #2. Could be a wire, most likely EUP gone bad. You can replace the EUP yourself, but the dealer will need to flash the ECM to "learn" the new injector pump.
