  1. I would like to gather thoughts and opinions on a truck trade I am considering. I have an opportunity to obtain a very clean 1985 Superliner with an E6 350. This truck is almost completely rebuilt, so age & reliability are not a major concern. I would like to work this truck in place of my 2000 CX Vision, which would be traded or sold. Sweet Polly has already registered her opinion, that being I am certifiably nuts if I give up my current ride for a truck that is 15 years older. It is somewhat of an emotional decision for me; my CX is a perfectly good truck that has served me well, but I have always wanted a Superliner. Input from all would be greatly appreciated!

    Oh No!

I don't know which is worse... A short bus or a Freightshaker.
  3. Been steady working, Rob, thanks for asking. Too busy to post on a regular basis, I apologize for that. It takes me extra time to grease my frameless due to all the grease fittings!
  4. Amen to that. Most guys that talk that way are looking for an excuse anyway. Unwilling to accept responsibility for themselves. As you said it is directly related to maturity level.
  5. Check again. Harley has quite a varied offering. Many variations of Sportster, big V-twins and the V-rod. I just could never justify the price. Supply vs. demand as Harleys are what everybody wants. My own ride is a Kawi Vulcan 800B Classic.
  6. Ironic that a certified Know-It-All had this oversight of information.
  7. The "BIG SIX" is quite impressive but you will have to go to the museum to see it. The only info I found is that it is an 885 cu. in. inline 6 built to meet some proposed Federal Regulation.(emissions, perhaps?) When the regulation was dropped so was production of this engine. Too bad, I say. IMHO, the reason Mack lost a lot of highway market share in the '70s and '80s is that they did not upgrade to big power to compete with CAT and Cummins six cylinders.
  8. You guys are speaking my language now! I don't like to brag, (well, yeah, I do) but I've been dumping my 39' frameless spread for 10 years now and have never put it on the side. (watch what happens tomorrow...) Let me talk to those guys who say I ain't a bucket hauler if I haven't laid one over. Other Dog has the right mindset. You always need to be just a bit nervous when that trailer is in the air. When you get cocky and lose the butterflies in your gut that is when she goes over. Always be mindful of your equipment and your conditions.
  9. Technically not ROADKILL, but a tasty addition to the Cafe menu, Rob. Gregg
  10. If your dealer didn't know what that light was all about, then you need to go to another dealer. I wouldn't trust them to work on the truck. Either they are clueless or they blew you off. Both would disqualify them from earning your business.
  11. You guys can talk all you want about the politics of color, just sign me up for that job making $100 a week!
  12. 2006-2009 trucks of any make are heavier than their older counterparts due to the added emission equipment. I run a 2000 CX with a 2008 spread axle MAC bucket(a finer bucket trailer I have yet to witness). The trailer is built HEAVY to accomodate the commodities I haul. Tare weight full tanks 34,000. Tractor alone is 20,500 with the wetline and my assorted bric-a-brac. The day you leave it home is the day you will need it.

    Obama Care:

Prior to your accusation, I read no reference to race in this thread- only a political point of view.

    Obama Care:

That's exactly what would happen, Rod. That is the myth that is perpetuated by the liberal supporters of health care reform, that someone would be denied critical care. It simply does not happen in the U.S.A. Services are provided to those who need it. If the recipient is unable to pay, that becomes a matter for the lawyers.
  15. I don't have any experience with the road king shocks. The cost has kept me from trying them myself. But they are rebuildable, which means they last a lifetime. As I recall, they are not "DIY"; they must be sent to the manufacturer for rebuild. The downside to that, though, is the truck is down in order to send the shocks back for rebuild, unless you were to purchase 2 sets. This all seems to me more trouble than they might be worth.
  16. Take that VIN to your MACK parts counter and they can tell you exactly the way the truck left the factory.
  17. QCdriver, When I replaced the springs on my CX, I upgraded from Mack's standard 2 leaf to the middle option 3 leaf setup. There is also a heavier 3 leaf for 18,000lb axles, but that may be too stiff for a road tractor. I don't know what your truck has on it now, but a heavier spring will improve the lifespan of your shocks and tires. I also prefer the ride of the heavier spring because the front end is more under control and not bouncing all over the road. I am usually right at 12,000lb on my steer axle. It is just a fact of life that shocks don't last very long. I am in the habit of replacing shocks whenever I put on new tires.
  18. I think that might be at the T/A truckstop in Ontario,CA
  19. Great looking H and welcome to the forums. Could you post some close up pics of the exhaust & brackets behind the cab? Your set-up looks like what I have in mind for my F-model. Thanks!
  20. Doug, The Friday night Festivities sound like good times for all! If I could ever get my dispatcher to cooperate, I'd like to be there next year. It was a pleasure to meet & talk with you on Saturday and I promise, my F will be up & running in attendance next year! Gregg
  21. You see what happened to Rob as soon as he entered PA. The powers that be put a stop to him.

    10-4

10-4 Roger that same back at ya, driver!
  23. Your spycam must have been in Lititz, California. We don't allow those kind of shenanigans in PA.
  24. Rob, Sorry you did not make it to Lititz, but you get a gold star for the attempt. Not to mention another story to tell. The weatherman was telling stories, too because all the rain cleared out overnight on Friday and we had beautiful sunshine the rest of the weekend. My F-model didn't make the show due to various minor mechanical issues, but I was there with my CX Vision. Perhaps my greatest disappointment was missing you. I was looking forward to meeting you, friend.
  25. Other dog is on the right track. You DO NOT need to even register as a motor carrier or have a DOT number unless you are "for hire" and charging a fee for your service. I have my F-model registered with antique plates and never get bothered on the road or by the desk jockeys. Your MH is not old enough for antique plates but maybe it could be classed as a personal pickup truck or recreational vehicle.
