  1. You beat me to it, David. Mack shut them down when the union at Brockway wouldn't deal. Let's not forget Volvo is keeping jobs in Hagerstown by building both brand engines at MACK's powertrain plant.
  2. I would like to think that the Hooters gals pictured are "driver friendly"...
  3. Here are some pics of the fire truck for sale. It is a 1974 with a maxidyne diesel + 5 speed. Odometer shows 77k miles. Overall very good condition. I hope this PUP finds a new owner. These pics and advertised price are as of 6/3.
  4. Call it what you will. I'm just glad to see major customers still buying the Mack nameplate. More sales means the name will stick around. I don't blame Mack or Volvo for the consolidation. Mack would have been long gone already if not for Volvo's pocketbook.
  5. Good to see ABF keeping the faith. Lets keep our fingers crossed for the new MP engines. Mack needs a good engine to rebuild customer confidence.
  6. I've seen this Superliner at Carlisle and Lititz in 2008 and I must say it is one of the finest examples out there. Great looking truck.
  7. What Barry is trying to say, in a diplomatic way, is that the nut behind the keyboard is loose.
  8. My CX came from the factory with a bent over pin on the wire connector for the fresh air door actuator. It was stuck on fresh air all the time for 5 years ! I always switch to "recirculate" when in dusty conditions. No wonder the cores were all plugged with dust. When I dug into my dash to solve my airflow problems, only then did I find the clogged cores and defective wiring.
  9. A special edition truck, probably somebody's pride and joy at one time, reduced to scrap metal. Sad, indeed, whatever the circumstance.
  10. As I recall the name on the door is "LUXOR FIRE DEPT." a little town just south of New Alex. I may be out that way this week. I will definitely stop & investigate.
  11. Your parts guy must be looking at the full guage cluster. Give him those part numbers the guage panel was $88 and the switch panel was $200 in 2003. Maybe just a couple dollars more today. Let me know how you make out.
  12. Thanks for the pics, Otherdog. Lots of rare, old iron there. I especially enjoy the cabovers.
  13. Check into vintage auto supply houses and also car & truck shows and flea markets if you want the cloth covering. It is being reproduced.
  14. Most Macks I have seen will pass some oil through the air system. Much better with an air dryer, but nothing to worry about.
  15. Just have to do some good old fashioned "exploratory surgery". If only certain vents don't work the ducting may be apart or in your case there may be a potato roll stuck in there! From time to time the heater core may get plugged up with dust, etc. but in that case you would have no airflow anywhere.
  16. Tylerstanley, I had to research my archives to come up with part numbers for the dash panels; I got them back in 2003. The guage panel is #84MT571M5, the switch panel is #96MT514M2. These are the wood grain Granite dash panels with chrome guage bezels. They do fit the vision, too(with minor mods) if anyone with a Vision wants a little BLING for the dashboard. I also got the switch panel because I like the layout better than the Vision; there's room for more switches. If you take notice on the Rawhide trucks, Mack cheated by only adding the CV guage panel, using the CH/CX side panel. The contour of the panels don't match up. It would bug me if I had to look at it every day. Perhaps a little nitpicky on my part, but little details like that are easy to take care of when the truck is being assembled.
  17. I bought the granite wood grain panels for my Vision just as blank panels, no guages or switches. The dash should be the same on an '06 (mine is an '00). Give me a couple days I will track down the part numbers. I also added a boost guage to my truck. As long as you have an empty guage space (factory boost guage is mounted top left) all you need to do is buy the guage, plug it into the dash port, and have your dealer shop hook up the computer to "turn on" the new guage.
  18. F.W.D. , I pass by there on a fairly regular basis. Next time I will stop and get some pics and specs for you. Then we can get together for coffee; heck we're practically neighbors!
  19. That is amazing to watch! I often wonder why combos like that do not see more use in the states. More manuverable and productive IMHO. The standard semi seems outdated to me, along with antiquated axle and bridge laws.
  20. the SUV is definitely late model, not too many miles on that one!
  21. the price dropped on that truck as of 5/7 it was $8500. Looks real clean but a fire truck I do not need (so I am told)
  22. You pretty much hit it on the head mackdaddy. You and I think a lot alike when it comes to choosing freight. As far as the tolls go, you just gotta figure it into your expenses and make sure the load covers. Tonight I made a stop at the house for a few hours before I shove off to Long Island, NY. Dump & reload then back home on Friday. Most of the guys I work with don't go near NYC, but for the right money I'm goin'.
  23. Didn't Buck Owens have a hit song about Sam's Place? All sorts of chicanery going on there when the sun goes down. Seems like maybe AJT is the one we need to keep OUR eyes on, not the other way around! Anyway, welcome to the site, the more the merrier!!!
  24. Thanks for the info guys. I figgered there were some sort of controller on the market. Just now starting to put the pieces together on my F-model and would like to be ready for anything!
  25. I have studied this photo and I have discovered what I think to be the origin of everyone's distaste. Note the single air cleaner can. Asthetics would be greatly improved by installing dual Vortox trash cans. Can't be a large car without trash cans.
