Sorry I must have missed your posts last month,Terry. Thanks for the info, though. Last couple times I've gone down through I noticed Lohr's Superliner is gone, so you're right, must be sold. Cool pictures in your gallery, too. I stopped out on 22 near Huntingdon where those F-models sit just rotting away. Spoke to the owner of the trucks and we exchanged numbers in case I wanted any parts, but they look too far gone even for anything useful. He did say he was willing to let me browse and he would call me before the trucks went to scrap. I don't think those trucks are leaving anytime soon, though. I'd say those F's (and one KW in the back) have been there close to 20 years. The opportunity for big $$$ on scrap has passed us by.

I will say welcome back, even though I have joined in the past year. I would only say you may be a friend I haven't met yet. I tried something new just last week that may help you transfer your pictures. Iwas able to E-mail pictures from my phone to my computer. Send them like a text message, only type in your E-mail address where you would otherwise type in a destination phone number. Sometimes even old Underdogs can learn new tricks!

Nice to see Dad kick in and assist when needed; that's what dads are for. How can you say no. I haven't had to fix my daghter's car yet, of course she is only 7 years old! She did hit me up for help building her "Powerpuff Derby" car for Brownie Scouts, though. Gonna have to make room in the shop for that project!

This truck would be good for typical 80,000lb gross tractor-trailer setup. Depending on the axles installed, it could be permitted higher in certain states. Even at Max rating, these trucks are basically bulletproof. You'd have to try really hard to break one!

You guys are really trying to get me in trouble now, posting all these red F-models for sale. Even if I could somehow explain to Sweet Polly the benefits of owning a color matched set of cabovers, the expense of keeping such animals would be a bit trying right now. Some of you guys might cringe at the thought, but I would consider putting Chip's F on the road as an alternative to buying a brand new truck.

Diesel oil will usually get black pretty quick after a change. But I have noticed the oil in my CX to maintain its clarity a little longer on my last few changes. Perhaps this is due to our new "cleaner" lower sulphur diesel fuel?

My main concern is with the detergency of the oil. My experience with antique cars has been to use a non-detergent oil unless the engine has been overhauled or otherwise de-sludged. This truck was in service as recently as 2006 and appears to have been well maintained, so chances are a modern multi-grade detergent oil is already in there.

You might want to send the heads to be checked when you have them off. Cracked heads is a common issue with these engines. The engine manual should be available at the dealer for not too much money. I got the full chassis manual for my CX for under $300.

Sounds like you Know how to keep warm in your truck, what with all the fires and such I've been reading about!!!

Thanks to all for the replies and the clarification on filters. It has the large #16 lines on it. My mind is more in the modern age, I just never thought about a full-flow being mounted out away from the engine like that. When I open up the can I will post any part numbers I find.

I am getting ready to do an engine service on my F-model and I would appreciate any feedback on what type of oil is recommended for the END673 vintage 1963. I have no maintenance history on this truck and don't know what type or grade of oil is currently in this engine. I did open the valve covers and it looks pretty clean there, no sludge. Overall this truck seems to have been well maintained over the years. Would I be safe to use a modern multigrade detergent oil? The F is equipped with a bypass filter. I use Mobil Delvac 15W-40 in my modern truck and it would be logistically simple to use the same oil in both trucks.

Those lot lizards are cold blooded creatures not well suited as a warming device.

I don't want to ruffle any feathers here, but in this day and age why is anyone still idling their trucks??? It is a dollars and sense issue; I really don't give a hoot about the pollution, I can't sleep at night thinking about all my hard earned fuel money going up the stacks. SHUT 'EM OFF !!! There are much better ways to keep warm at night. $$$$$$$$$$$

Don't even get me started on this bunch. Just buckle up and hold on to your wallet, and check back in 4 years. We'll do a head count to see who among us remains standing.

Just stocked up on filter kits at Mack. $53.87 for the metric kit including 6 filters (3 oil, 2 fuel, 1 water) Still a bargain for factory branded filters, IMHO.

The wastegate actuator seems to be the culprit on many turbo complaints. As for the air dryer problem check all the air lines for pinhole leaks especially the signal line between the governor and the reservoir(tank).

I've learned over the years never to piss off the guy who loads your truck or the guy who fixes your truck. Both could make your life miserable. Let's just say when I was a mechanic, I never got mad; just got even. Much like your backhoe operator has illustrated!

I don't have a whole lot of experience on different machines, but I once owned a John Deere 1010 diesel trackloader. I had 3 acres of woods and did quite a bit of work with that old machine. It was half wore out when I got it and it still worked when I sold it so I can't complain at all.

I normally get around 6.0 with my pre EGR 427, but I've noticed a drop probably related to winter blended fuel. Down now to about 5.3 on average since December 1. I haven't used enough ULSD or BIO to judge that as a cause. The EGR models I am familiar with can't seem to average more than 5 MPG. Fuel economy is a major focus in marketing the new MP engines because lots of customers are unhappy with the AC E-Techs.
