  1. Thanks for the link. Some cool stuff on there. They must supply IOWA80 cause I see the grille and fender trim I got from them. You're right about the visors too. Mine came from Dieter's. Now that I see a picture of the Millenium sleeper I must agree only a trim panel is available for those. I was thinking of the old style high roof.
  2. We're better off where we are I guess. Politics might corrupt us
  3. JP Chrome would be the place to check. They advertise here on the site. Iknow they have a drop visor for flat tops & daycabs, they are good to deal with and should be able to help in your quest.
  4. This is similar to the setup I use to run accessories in my bunk, as I don't idle my truck. The only suggestion you might consider a battery isolator between the starting batteries and the deep cycles. this allows each bank to charge at their proper rates. I have a similar setup on my conversion van. I used a cutoff switch for several years, but battery life is greatly improved with the isolator. They are available at any RV store. Make sure you get an isolator rated for the amp output of your alternator. I also had to run a voltage sense wire(14 ga.) from the alt. to the start battery.
  5. I'm with you on this one. I already gave my company advance notice, if they ever want Quallcom or GPS, I'll be walking my dog elsewhere. Don't need it, Can't want it.
  6. I change oil & filters every 20,000 in highway service. Out of curiosity I cut open my spinner awhile back and it was nowhere NEAR this point, though mine is not EGR. As far as extended drain intervals, I am not sold on the concept, but everything I've heard and read indicates FILTER changes at the standard intervals, as well as frequent oil sampling. Extended drain intervals are definitely NOT "set it and forget it" as this poor soul attempted to do. One thing I've always liked about Mack engines is the superior filtration systems. The engineers seemed to have this one figured out. Leave it alone and go by the book on this one.
  7. I saw this truck Friday on my way home but didn't even notice the slash on the grille. Must have subconsiously blocked the image...
  8. Big set of kohones you got there running into a burning building to hook a propane tank! You are a bigger man than me
  9. the hat suits you. perfect match to the moustache! looks like it grew there.
  10. An interesting peek into the lifestyles of the rich and famous! These are the kinds of decisions Brad Pitt must struggle with every day. IMHO, I gotta go with Jennifer. She seems down to earth and girl-next-door-type. Angelina loses points as soon as she opens her mouth. Political spouting is not what we pay our entertainers to do. Just shut up and act, sing or whatever it is you are good at. I never got all the fuss about her anyway. Certainly easy on the eyes, but not ALL THAT as the media makes her out to be.
  11. Rob, since you supported my run for president, I must return the political favor and nominate you for Secretary of State. Your diplomatic skills are beyond compare.
  12. The first truck I owned was an MH. The truck was a pleasure to drive and I regret to this day trading it. However I did end up with a pretty nice CX Vision in the deal(the very truck pictured in my avatar). I had to make a business decision, and the CX is a more practical truck for my current operation. If America ever needs cabovers again I think the MH would be well up to the task. This model was well ahead of its time in tech and styling and still looks fresh in 2008.
  13. If the truck has a block heater you can get away with 2 or 3 group 31's. The Cummins takes a lot of cranking time below 40 degrees. If that is the case, better keep 4 batteries
  14. He sure is spending a lot of money before he skips town. Some conservative Bush turned out to be.
  15. Good luck, Steve. People forget nowadays innocent until proven guilty. Unfortunately, as you say, many are crucified by the media before the truth is known. You have built a respectable business and I hope you can emerge from this with your reputation intact. Keep us all posted.
  16. It makes me almost proud to see some politicians get a set of kohones and finally stand up for what is right, rather than for their own political interests at the taxpayer's expense. If these companies are left to their own devices, the contracts WILL be renegotiated, whether the union bosses like it or not. I say BOSSES because if given the choice, I think the working stiffs would rather give back a little than to lose their jobs altogether.
  17. Watch out for those new Dodge Magnum wagons too. They are standard issue PA State Police, white with brown stripe.(same color as my BVD's) You know how us bucket haulers operate, always on the back roads trying to get away with something.
  18. I'll be out walking my dog westbound on Monday. I run 22 to I-79 to I-70 west on my way to Indy. I'll even buy the coffee, Other Dog.
  19. Let's see now, the State Police are increasing CMV enforcement on secondary roads. Why is this? Could it be more trucks are using secondary roads? Why is this? Could it be the tolls on the Turnpike are too high? See my post under "Turnpike toll increase" Underdog here at your service happy to connect the dots for you.
  20. The Turnpike Commision always justifies a toll increase by stating "failure to meet projected toll revenue". The problem is that their projections are always based on current traffic volumes. With each toll increase comes a decrease in volume, directly caused by said toll increase! It is a basic law of supply and demand the commisioners have not been able to grasp. The New York Thruway Authority is guilty of these same offenses. They are held captive by poor business practices, political corruption and greed. The cost of the product offered exceeds the value. A product is only worth what consumers are willing to pay. It wouldn't be hard to figure out; the research has already been done by the Ohio Turnpike Commision. They learned a hard lesson years ago and consequntly LOWERED tolls. An amazing result- increased revenue due to increased traffic volumes! I for one am very aware of cost vs. benefit in my trucking operation. Any smart businessman has to be in today's economy. With the decrease in fuel prices, it is no longer cost effective to run the toll road; it is cheaper to pay for the fuel to go around the toll road. That green line on my PA map no longer exists.
  21. Now you guys are coming close to understanding the conflict going on in my head all my life. Underdog is a tough standard to maintain. Sometimes you just want to be Riff-Raff. The voices wont leave me alone.... Still through it all, Sweet Polly Purebred puts up with me. She knows how to talk me down.
  22. Welcome, dmmack76! Great stories you tell about growing up in Jamaica. And you also win the prize for word of the year- "MACKNESS" That one word pretty much sums up the attitude around here!
  23. That curved piece is the fresh air duct I mentioned. 4 screws in the cab and one under the hood from the outside in, just below the windshield. This lets you access the A/C core pretty well, but you need to remove the front panel(around the controls) to get at the heater core. Make sure the HVAC drain is open(a rubber nipple in the firewall near the heater hoses), spread a tarp on the cab floor and take a garden hose to both cores. BTW, there are 2 drains for the fresh air cowl that get plugged up too. they are behind the electric horn in the center of the firewall. If these are plugged, You may get rainwater into the heater ducts. Copy on the dust there, Superdog. It's hard to keep anything clean pulling a bucket or a hopper. Oh, the places you'll go! I usually switch to "recirculate" on the HVAC control when I go on a dusty jobsite or feed mill. That helps but I take apart my HVAC once a year to clean it anyway. font="Garamond"]"bucket haulers like to do it in the dirt"
  24. On my 2000(newer style dashboard), I was able to get in there pretty good just taking the front panel off the HVAC unit. I don't quite recall how the older dash comes apart, but mine takes 4 screws to expose the cores. I reached in between with a small wire brush while keeping suction with the shop-vac. Pulling the heater core out is not too bad, release the radiator cap and the coolant should stay in the engine. You'll only loose what's in the core itself. To clean the A/C core remove the fresh air inlet duct on the right side of the HVAC unit. Should be 4 screws you can see and one #*@$ bugger up on the cowl below the windshield you get from the outside under the hood. Removing this duct will allow you to inspect the operation of the fresh air door. I found out mine was stuck on fresh since new! One pin on the elec. plug was bent over, not making contact. I guess that's how my HVAC got all caked with dust in the first place!!!
  25. LocomotiveBreath is onto something. Now is the time of year the fuel gets cut with additives for winter. I have experienced a drop in MPG as well the last couple weeks. But even pulling full loads(80,000lbs. gross) I get at least 5.5 MPG. 4.5 seems very low. If your odometer is off, wasn't it off before when you were clocking 6.5 MPG? If you got new drive tires that could alter your calculations.
