  1. Shame to part out such a good looking truck, but I know the parts will get used to make other trucks look as good or better!
  2. So on the econovance E7 the injection advance runs from 5* to 28*, depending on emissions and specific engine characteristics. How exactly are the vmac1&2 injections done? Are they PLN with the econovance that acts like a points&condensor spark advancer? Anything electronic about the pump and injectors other than the econovance?
  3. I'll take your B over that Autocar any day of the week! Never drove a B, but their look is growing on me!
  4. Just kidding.
  5. That bastard stole the seats outa my minivan!!!!
  6. Not that were ever going to see gio again, but am I I reading the fuel chart right? 1200 rpm is the most efficient rpms to run the etech 427 at?
  7. I know you set injection timing to whatever the engine tag says, usually 18* or so at idle. I assume it advances as rpms increase. How many degrees advance is typical for a diesel? Specifically thinking about etech engines. Playing with some toy robot programmable microcontroller. Curious if it could handle a diesel engine.
  8. Some 2x4 wood fiberglassed in as reinforcing ribs does wonders for repairs. My dad's repaired pretty much every hood we have, everything from the spider cracks on the top of the hood to corners busted from snow plowing. I can't see damage to anything other than the fender plastic, and that should unbolt. Any cracks should get a rib fiberglassed on the inside of the hood and the area on the outside should be sanded down so a filler can be worked into the crack. Then once that's all hard sand it smooth and shoot some paint at it.
  9. If you punch your town/city into your profile someone here may know of a local place that'll take care of your alt for you.
  10. Great looking dog too!
  11. Extra temps caused by the charge cooler maybe caused manifold studs to loosen a little, causing the exh manifold gasket to leak? My old 2 valve endt676 motor is notorious for having the exhaust manifold nuts loosen. Been a while since the truck has had the lock tabs on it. Glad you're running again!
  12. Have you dropped new batteries in it? If the old batteries are still in it I'm sure they have some dead cells that'd make a good alt look bad. Alternators are sometimes rebuildable by specialized shops.
  13. Lol someday soon modern trucker crowds gonna look at you funny for shifting gears period!
  14. Nice looking rig! Hope it quiets down for you!
  15. Describe the rubbing noise. Where is it coming from? Any symptoms other than noise? Any circumstances that make the noise more prominent? Steering related? How is your Carrier bearing? (Rubber driveshaft support bearing after trans, before intermediate drive axle) Any time I buy an auto trans vehicle I take it straight to my trans mechanic to have the trans serviced. On cars/pickups this usually involves fluid flush, new filter, and adjusting a couple of the bands(internal clutches. Yes automatics utilize clutches, some if which need periodic adjustment). A good trans shop can run some line pressure tests to see how well your transmission hydraulics are working. Great for finding a blown internal seal. I've done this myself on my dodge Cummins transmission, but I don't have any interest in big rig autos.
  16. I got to take my winter season boss's son out in their manual trans oil delivery truck because he needed seat time and a fresh copilot to learn a few things from for his CDL skills test. Synchronized transmissions are junk, but at least he will be legal to drive manual transmissions! Wife just gave birth to my son a couple hours ago, I'll be sure to keep one of our 2 sticks in roadworthy condition for 18 years from now!
  17. That's nothing. The rust by the 5th is just from the 5th wheel being moved to different positions and the axle housing looks a little scabby but everything else has paint and no rust stains. An axle housing can be replaced. Rusty frames are more worrisome. From the pics it's a good looking truck, I don't see anything I'd be scared of.
  18. That's basically just a 2 stick with an airshift instead of the 2nd stick. Great trans for an old maxidyne, not great for an e7. 2 stick I learned on is a killer transmission though. Can't break it.
  19. I can't stand my 8LL. It was abused before we got it. Sometimes when you come out of gear and you're in the neutral zone it's still in gear for another second or two. Sometimes it hangs up coming out of gear. Hasn't blown itself up yet though! Couldn't stand the 8LL in my cousins intertrashional dump years ago either. Had a U shift pattern instead of H, and it took a good bit of effort to get out of gear. And second to third was a bear with the U pattern. Drove a Pete with an 8LL and a 500hp cat, that shifted very nicely. And I owned a 400hp Mack tractor with a 10spd Eaton that shifted nicely, except it would grind the lo/hi range transition between 5th and 6th once in a while.
  20. Measure another truck with same size tires from ground to top of rail. Set your truck to that and call it a day.
  21. I want that T310M. Matches my 8LL in overdrive.
  22. My mechanical e7-350 needs more than 6 gears, it's a dog at 40k-73,280 lbs on most of the hills here even with an 8LL. I'll keep the 8LL til it blows up, but we'll be building another truck in the next few years. Nice to know what options to look for.
  23. I'm with Terry on the triple!
  24. I always assumed the 2 stick Mack trans was the only multi reverse speed trans, apart from Lolo/low/high. What other Mack transmissions can you shift gears in reverse? How recent have these transmissions been produced? I run a concrete delivery company and multispeed reverse is King. My 8LL is junk, hangs up in gear for a second sometimes even when shifter is in neutral. 8ll is good 95% of shifts, other 5% it hangs up going in or out.
  25. Should be under 12 tons?
