    Well I've been keeping updated on a new rocket production facility and launch pad in Boca Chica, TX. They're putting up a new building and look at what I caught pouring some concrete! Figured I'd share... along with a picture of an almost finished product from the facility... They're working it out and some of the pieces they've been churning out recently have looked a good bit better. Can't wait to these Starships flying people around the moon in a few years...

    Saw plenty of those pickups in late summer of last year, was still recovering from surgery and dad came by to make me go to some antique VW show at some park, then that's when we went on to check out the all Mack junkyard I took a ton of pics of. Only VW I got a picture of was one of the "Bachelor Cab" pickups... basically a half cab with only a drivers seat, and where the other side of the cab would normally be was replaced by extra bed space. I'll see if I can't dig up the picture out of my album... Haven't found my picture yet but I did find this video of it at that very same show:

    Saw this one in person, was built on a dodge pickup, if I recall correctly... Only about as tall as I was but figured I’d add it here for inspiration...

    RPM is about (might be a little higher) 2400 full-load, 2550 unloaded, and the rear end is a 6.86. I think the 80 mph truck had a 5.63, but for some reason some literature suggests it was changed back for the 6.86 before completion. I think the 5.63 was on the truck when the fire company owned it because it was said to do 80... this all with 10.00/20 size balloon tires according to other literature... This is the further info I have...

    I was lucky enough to have finally gotten a good day to drive the thing home earlier. Very comfortable in that cab all around. It’s also running a lot smoother so now I don’t feel the thumping of the engine in my chest when I’m trying to fall asleep. Other than that I’ve been thinking about digging out my winter coat again...

    The only company I know of that really uses metal 3D printers is SpaceX. To give you an idea on cost of something like this and how they can afford it, each launch costs atleast $60 million and they’re one of the few companies that lands and reuses the rocket boosters... there’s actually a launch scheduled for tonight at 11:50PM EST for anyone interested, with a planned landing back at the space center: Most other aerospace companies use 3D metal printing for prototyping and making castings of components.

    Figured I'd mention it, I heard from a friend of a friend who works at the Hagerstown Mack plant that this corona thing is messing with production because some smaller components that are supposed to come in through the port of Baltimore are stuck out at sea in quarantine. Unfortunately it sounds like the infectivity of this strand is increasing rapidly, which I don't think anyone who actually knew what they were talking about expected.

    I think my brother would be interested if they ever made a new highway tractor. He keeps thinking about a Mack Anthem because he likes the look of them without the snail mirrors but won't because of the lack of configurability. Autocar tends to have a different tune with such things and I'm sure they'd win him over with their classic design cues...

    About 2500 rpm in 5th at 55 MPH. No clue on the gear ratio off the top of my head, I'll have to check the manuals on both mine and the sister on Saturday when we go to bring the truck back home... It's either been too cold this week or we've been too busy to drive the thing home from the shop we rebuilt the engine in...

    Luckily most of my limited experience driving the L on the highway is pretty positive, so far most people have seemed ok and in some cases even excited with the inconvenience of the slowed traffic once they realized the hold up was a real old looking firetruck... Still, whenever we get the money we plan on changing out the rear end to be like the one that was in the sister apparatus which made her top speed closer to 80...

    It'll certainly go anywhere, including up a wall... just at a max of 55 mph... keeping somewhat local, like within 2 hours of normal travel time and sticking to back roads is preferable...

    Hopefully the 11th Annual Mt. Airy Memorabilia & Equipment Sale in Maryland on the 29th. We’ll see how it works out... Definitely trying to plan to have it at CAFAA’s muster in MD this year, Pump Primers in PA, and the Gerhart All Mack Show in PA. Might try to have them both at Macungie... and maybe a few others depending on what comes up...
