LTL Interior 3 Sticks

Unfortunately these last few years his piggy bank is getting smaller... too many medical bills are making him realize he needs to do the things he’s wanted to do for years before he can’t anymore. Things are starting to look up, they’re just not quite there yet, and I’m trying to figure this stuff out so when he’s ready he can get the most joy out of whatever he decides on... Me, I’ve got plenty of time so I figure I’ll help dad on his projects before getting around to my own... hopefully by that point my piggy bank will be big enough I can do just about whatever I want. Now I’m curious though, how big is a big enough piggy bank for yours? I know a guy locally that has one with a twin stick, but heaven forbid you even bring up the possibility of asking him to part with it... I think I’m more likely to get his working, near factory new, Superdog... -

Thanks for you input, luckily I found a honey pot or two for parts, and between them I’ve been able to get every part I’ve needed or in contact with someone who has some for my one of a kind firetruck. The parts sources weren’t just for firetrucks either... But like I said thanks for the advice! I have a feeling my dad wouldn’t mind having a collection just like yours but wanted to find a good rig to haul with first. I actually know of a few really good MHs and a Superliner or two I should be able to get my hands on so it sounds like those’ll be the ones I try to convince my dad to pursue... he just really wants an old LTL like yours! -

Things like this make me wish I joined BMT a few months before I did... we messed up our 707 because we didn't think to clean up the engine and gas tank before trying to start it up for the first time... I guess it all worked out though, as the crack in the engine block was there before we got it, we just didn't realize how bad it was, and now that problem has been fixed... and bonus that the new block is easier to maintain, not to mention the Mack logo inscribed on the side of it. Still, y'all would've helped us save a bit of time and money on the heads... -
Some kid figured out a genius way to load & unload doubles more efficiently... European edition of this strategy evidently...

Sounds like the right application for the way over built 707 motor... -
I never noticed the difference until you just brought it up, I see now how the firetruck fenders have a little extra bit hanging in towards the tire. I guess that would cause some rubbing while turning with the right sized tires for an LF. But LT fenders also won't work because the frame rails are further apart so they wouldn't sit right on a more 'normal' LF frame, even if you managed to line up the holes... figured I'd mention it... Also I'll let you know I had to get some parts out of Oregon to get my LS running again, and I'm all the way out on the East Coast... So if I were you, Conelrad, I'd find one that works and then get it shipped to you, otherwise you'll spend forever trying to find one close to you. I got really lucky by finding a shop close by with a few of the parts I needed from and engine they worked on decades ago, but I used all of them...

I bet they weren't very popular, that engine would've been swimming under that hood with the space. Any 707 can fit under the hood of my standard L, and the LTs were designed to accommodate bigger engines, hence the spread frame rails at the front. Using the LT's frame rails on the W allowed for a really low doghouse because the engines could sit deeper down in the frame rails, pretty interesting that it wasn't a more popular design... in my opinion atleast! -
Still waiting to hear about what you're asking for it... with some paint and new tires that'd make a real nice show hauler for someone...

B-73 Restoration

I like this cab on the Bs too. Must've been a quick job so save money the first time, but how in the world was somebody trying to hook up a trailer so fast they not only missed the 5th wheel and didn't realize it but then cause so much damage that you need to replace rear panels?! I could see a sizable dent maybe and the glass to be blown out but something on the cab that couldn't just be beat out or dealt with? Makes me scratch my head... Glad someone is fixing it up right! Can't wait to see the old dog growling around again... -
Well now dad won't shut his mouth about how much he'd love a Cummins powered LT everytime we go to see the gas motor in the firetruck. Unfortunately the guy who gave us the 707 block has one and got my dad hooked on it. Looks like he'd still love a Superdog too as he sees it everytime we walk into the shop and I keep catching him eying it up...

How many speeds in that one? Me and my dad keep looking at tractors and it seems like you've got all 4 we've been interested in... what do you think the perks and drawbacks are of each of them, we intend on hauling a little bit with them, but just our other trucks, figured I'd ask someone who'd know to help influence whichever truck to really pursue. -
R Model Fender Light?
CaptainCrutch replied to h67st's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Looks like the new lights someone installed on the rear of my L before we got it. I think they look awful on the thing but they're nice... you can see them up at the top of the truck on the right side of the hose bed. You'll have to take my word that this is what they look like because the quality isn't good enough... I have a better photo somewhere I'll try and dig up... in this one though you can see the tail light a little better than the others, and all the lights look the same except for color and size... Just figured I'd mention it... maybe the light you have was sold as a more modern replacement for the old blinkers on Bs, Ls, and similar firetrucks? I have to agree I don't think it's for an R... Good thing I don't need it though, seeing as I wouldn't exactly qualify as a veteran... -
The work you’re doing on that cab is incredible! But yeah it really makes me glad the cab on my L model is in really good shape other than the holes through the floor for the pedals seem to keep getting bigger... but especially glad since I’ve only seen one other truck with 5 seater L cab mine has... Other than that I know a few times someone will take an old L model that’s been sitting for a while and sell all the parts off of it. Be sure to keep your eye out on auction sites for them!

As much as I want to, I don’t have the money, time, money, energy, money, means, money, knowledge, or money to get that truck and put it back on the road... besides I know if I did have all those things I’d want to do something to it that’d make someone unhappy... -

The W actually used the same frame rails as the LT, with a dip at the front so the engines would sit lower... other than that I’m just repeating what Mack themselves have said... The H is the cabover L but the W is specifically the cabover LT... -

According to Mack: “215 Mack W71 cabover models were built from 1953-58 as a lighter companion to the conventional LT model.” -

Unfortunately... I didn’t think the W-71 was exactly unpopular, does anyone know why they stopped making it so soon? I have a hunch it’s because it was just a cabover version of the LT so they wanted to retire the two together despite such the limited run of the Ws... -

Yet somehow the Mack looks so much better... Peterbuilt also had a similar model but once again Mack seems better all around... To be fair though... the first of these trucks was the Kenworth...
