  1. I can almost promise you that what you have figured out “on paper” will not be reality. It never is. And if you think trucking is going to make you tons of money, it won’t. I was born into it started at 13 had my own truck at 16 (yes I’m old you can’t do this today) but I never made what I thought I was going to make. There will be expenses that you never dreamed of. Buying an older truck is a hit it or miss it proposition, especially as you seem to be new to trucking. You really don’t know what you are looking for. Or what you should be looking for. My personal opinion and it’s only mine I know you really want to do this but I believe your are jumping into something you may not be prepared for.
  2. There are a million different parts to your question with no definite answer. It all depends on how the truck was run and taken care off. An old well maintained truck that was driven properly will be there at 2,000,000 still going. If it was not taken care of and run like a bitch it might not make 500,000 without needing work. Too many questions no answers but the ones your eyes, ears, and common sense can give you. It will always be that way buying a used truck.
  3. Some shots of my 77 RD 600 SX. 300 Maxi, 5x2 Maxitorque 55,000 Mack rears. The one with the Black bed are as he was when he was a pup. I sold him to my cousin and it was a terrible mistake. Got what was left of him back last year and now hoping to win the lottery so I can put him back to his glory years. The old Poloroid is a model I built when I was 15 and it actually went to the dealer so they could see how I wanted the paint. Luckily they screwed it up and I liked the Red better on the front. I probably have 50,000 hours of labor in doing one thing or another to this old boy. If it wasn’t rolling I was modifying something. Everything from building brackets to install the overhead console, building a floor console from aluminum and plywood that sat level with the seats when the air was dumped so you could attempt to lay down and nap while waiting on a load of coal or waiting to dump a load of coal. Installing a Burgundy Western interior, painting the interior metal and smoothing out all the weld seams, drilling holes in the interior of the cab and shooting it full of “Great Stuff” foam and installing several layers of foam and a sheet of plywood under the floor to insulate and deaden sound, (it was so sealed up I had to open the kick vent to shut the door all the way closed and locked. Anyways I love this old truck and I regretted selling it as soon as it went out of sight but there was no work and I needed the money. God is good and he’s home now and he will either get restored to his former glory or rust whichever God has in store for me to be able to do.
  4. Thanks are the newer Electronic Maxidynes painted a Black color now?
  5. Can someone tell me what color the V-8’s in the Magnum were painted? I know the older Maxidynes were all Gold but I’ve heard that the newer ones are painted Black now? What year did the change occur? I’ve seen pictures of some V-8’s that appear to be a Red color and some whee the valve covers appear a Gray Blueish color. THANKS
  6. Any chance this is still around?
  7. Do you still have this door?
  8. I will put on a picture or two when I figure out how. I have taken a few since I got him back but realized that I didn't take nearly enough when he was new. I wish I had documented all of the details I added and the number of hours that I spent adding them but we all learn from our mistakes.
  9. Newbie to the site. Proud owner of a 1977 RD 600 dump. Which was (and is) my baby for 25 years at which point I got out of the trucking business and sold it to my Cousin. Now he got out of the trucking business and gave it back to me, sadly in much poorer shape than it was when he took possession of it approximately 17 years ago or so. I was anal about the work done to it the condition it was kept in and it broke my heart when I saw the shape it was in. But that said I have it back for the rest of my life anyway. Now I'm just older, broker and in no physical condition to ever work the truck again. My plans are to fix it up as much like it was when I first purchased it in 1977 as my limited finances will allow (wife says only $5.00 at a time LOL.) I have seen that parts are hard to come by now for the older models and are really expensive when you do find them so I'm hoping that maybe I can find some info from some of you fellow Dog lovers out there as to where some deals might be found. Looking forward to talk to some of you and share the love of Mack trucks.
