  1. In CT the landlady does her shopping at Aldis stores and the prices for same items way different from major stores. they don't have the "fancy frills" =products still the same. everything still in open bulk boxes, I use the empty boxes for bought groceries, don't need all the shopping bags.
  2. cab contours different. too round front to back;;; side to side. defiantly usual, be a fun project to uncover and find identifying numbers
  3. not to be my usual grinch for the holidays ;But if the wreath on front is real, I would suggest lowering it to the bumper. had a big disagreement with a driver who put a real wreath on front of the company truck he drove. the radiator heat dries out the bristles and fan sucks them in clogging the radiator cores. plastic wreaths not so bad real=== a problem. the truck looks great though.
  4. it will run with the knurled screw turned in; just won't shut off with key. had to either stall it or turn screw back out. number of road calls yrs back having the issue.
  5. based on profile there are 9 macks in the fleet : 4-5 would be qualify for a R-600 emblem. don't remember when the side door emblems were eliminated . before or after '77,
  6. I know I haven't kept up with the new trucks but description states a WATERCOOLED intercooler. not knowing the year ; being a 300 is it possibly an AIRCOOLED (tip turbine ) 300 ???
  7. oh the good ole fun days; besides a change of buttons. there was the "add a little gas" to the fuel tank to get "more horsepower from the diesel fuel. had to know what you were doing or results could be costly .LOL or the vise grips on the return fuel line . and a few more but we don't want to go off topic.
  8. in the real days of trucking and mechanics way before computers ruined everything ; engine such as cummins could be "modified" horsepower wise with the use of "buttons" as they were called. simple terms fancy flat washers of different thickness installed in the pumps.
  9. memory makin pictures for me. the ole wrecker I used at waterbury Mack was a '57 Diamond T similar to this one. 5 speed /2 speed rear short wheelbase homemade wrecker body. first response I heard pulling up on a road call " A Mack dealer using a diamond T"!
  10. now that's what you call a real truck; the plastic "replacements "of today will never last as this one did.
  11. tip turbine answers my question from the first two pictures as to why the over sized intake pipe. as stated may times pictures worth thousand words. thanks .good respirator , open both doors ; take top cover off in cab ;; air hose the liven sh-t out of it. spray the brake / fuel pedals. while everything soaking in penetrating oil =tip the cab for engine compartment cleaning. you know there will be rodent homes in the turbo with that open exhaust. it's a diamond in the rough.
  12. as a teenager, one of the six yards I worked at owned 3 jags ;; 2 of the big ones which looked like roll Royce's and 1 XKE. took the xke for a "road test "one day !! 70+ on the back roads. think it had the 12 cyl. he was a weirdo . wife not bad but boy were the cars a fun time.
  13. another reason I miss having the Grandparents farm!!! 30x50shop those two pieces of history so close and a fun project to restore. would have looked great next to my '49 EE and '49EF.
  14. and they did an excellent job hauling WITHOUT computers/modules / and boost pressures and like the muscle cars of the day had an engine sound never duplicated today. texaco oil ran a fleet of long nose GMCs having 318. living on the water near rte34 every night I could listen to the 318's climbing the hills waiting for the sound of the down shift.
  15. I had to "walk away "from some issues in life at the moment , so BMT is the best place to be. so I logged on to see the DM progress (how's that). being retired figured Bob had it completed /painted and driving it in the local parades in town!!🤣
  16. a project that small using a GOOD grade 8 bolt would be acceptable. trunnion bolts defiantly body bound needed.
  17. hope I didn't start any bad habits on these forums LOL A topic of DM progress has turned into a generator forum ; which I didn't do (this time) LMAO.
  18. have lucked out removing the body bound bolts by removing the nylon lock nuts and washers; install a basic nut (5/8 -or 3/4 fine thread) fully on bolt than a B F sledge hammer rail the bolt. once it starts to move loosen nut keep hammering. brass round stock to finish removal. less chance of bolt damage. this technic is for days gone by when parts were reused not just thrown away and new installed.
  19. if you have the set up and capabilities to SAFELY separate the units; would definitely be a better way to go. can check for worn parts etc .
  20. now that's what I call a real go getter' LOL ! not only having hopes of finding one of the impossible BUT two. best of luck and keep B M T crew updated.
  21. any future plans on removing the G& L gray stripe and install the white hood scheme? saw the other "you call, we haul "triaxle in Watertown paving with S&S other day.
  22. we can only hope the evil in this country/world don't take him out like they did J F K in '63. another real American that wanted to build a strong nation and save human lives.
  23. safety always the important factor! block the body securely while under neath messing with hyd lines. should be able to loosen the hyd lines taking pressure off then remove valve. did you try the redneck method by tapping the valve while in down position.? when it drops it's fast!! close to being crushed by cab over yrs back that was left partially up in frozen weather to access batteries. when I cracked the hyd line ; cab came down fast. there's not alot in the valves ` stuck plunger ?
  24. the ED pickup is many times confused with the Mack JR. I had a ' 49 EE Mack dump which is one size up from ED in the E series. also a 49 EF flatbed. ED wasn't limited to '36/38 like the JR was. as the B-20 was in relationship to the B=61; ED was smaller version of the larger E series.
  25. the diaphragm is the most important component to the long/short stroke chamber, 2 1/2 vs 3 diaphragm side by side show considerable difference in height. not good to put a 2 1/2 in a long stroke chamber. have seen the pressure blow apart the diaphragm from pushing it further then manufactured for.
