  1. THANK YOU I neeeded to read that,LOL just got back to the house after what should have been a 1-2 hr project on a dump trailer from 12 noon today, till now (8:45pm). and back tomorrow early to finish . before a grandson's birthday party in early afternoon.
  2. but to the "yuppies" UPS is the best because they are saving the environment.
  3. I know the diagram You posted was perfect. i was breaking b-lls in a positive comical way in regards to the statement 1/4 in line controls governor. which is 100% correct if as in this case the governor is mounted remotely from the air compressor. oldies like me are use to the more common of the day governors mounted to compressor. thus the 1/4 in line from gov to air dryer controls the air dryer.😁
  4. old school; doesn't get any better than that .🙂
  5. interesting if you take the time to read the technical specs on dryer install. the proper heat resistant line from compressor to dryer;; so many feet max from compressor to dryer ;; downward slope to air tank and a few others, yet check dryer installs from factory ; not many specs followed . ease of install seems the way.
  6. officer may have questioned the car inside to see if there was a car ; not illegal items. are you still running drag cars? what type. like everything else the computer cars of today don't seem as much fun as the funny cars of the '60's. they looked like cars not jets and 150 mph was better then300+
  7. OK class the teacher is testing us to see who is paying attention. the governor controls the operation OF the air dryer by the 1/4 in line. when the governor reaches set pressure (120lbs) it discharges air to the dryer by the 1/4 in line which in turn opens the discharge port of the dryer exhausting water/ moisture , this pertains to governors mounted on the compressor.
  8. once again YOU saved the best for last. I keep looking at them ;; wife might get lucky tonight.. LOL. yes he's a sick bas--d.
  9. if you are buying a new dryer, the diagram might be slightly different same principle. a new dryer should come with diagram for install
  10. check the diagram jojo posted. do you have a dryer installed yet?
  11. hope you didn't have to go in the shop in your jammies to have photo segment ; LOL.. impressive library
  12. that's why it was cheaper to exchange when time was concern. after it's all apart; install had those o-rings that leaked .
  13. got it now ; i didn't recognize the number , it's one of the later dryers
  14. i feel a set up coming . i'll fall for it ;; what is a AD-IP
  15. baskin robbins had air dryers that weren't worth crap. odd ball brand made of aluminum housing. didn't last long in new england salt/sand roads. changed them over to the AD-9's.
  16. is the truck going to have a dryer installed ? I remember the AD9 . tall skinny; trying brain cell for the other AD number : 5 maybe = short squatty , another item that went to the cheaper to exchange then rebuild.
  17. and I always thought you went to this massive library of truck books in your shop.. secrets out now 😃, the fleets i had anything to do with. we always disconnected the heater to air dryer for the warm months. to some dialectic grease and covered the terminals . why run the element in 80 degrees
  18. a lot more positives to the new format ;getting use to them. going to the forums by clicking the browse tab is great. glad this has the spell check; LOL
  19. when you say "can see where they disconnected the lines" are you referring to the lines to the air dryer which is no longer there ? the small (1/4 in ) line would go from the governor unloader port = center port between the two 5/16 mounting bolts or same center port on flat side of governor to the air dryer (service port ). discharge from compressor to air dryer= air dryer to wet side of air tank.
  20. never had much interest in the superliners when they first showed up trying to replace the R-models; as time went and seeing the round nose ch series the supers are super.
  21. don't remember when the spare rim( strapped behind the cab) became optional . can't recall what be came of the rims; some customers took them ; not all. Scovill manufacturing in wtby CT bought new R685st's and every truck had the rims and bottle jacks included well into the '70's.
  22. all the 81 series were the best. the truck kits did have a lug wrench (silver with hex on both ends and a 3/4 ? bar for the wrench, two red taillights, short lived bottle jack and the all important drivers manual. who would have guess those manuals would be worth so much today, I had so many; darn
  23. the pressure really depends on the usage; a single/ bobtail == why.is it to drive to the grocery store , truck show? every statement above is totally correct; but it all comes down to the individual purpose. tire says 80= try it ,,it will be too rough a ride .adjust with trial and error. yrs back I picked up a UPS style F-model non sleeper single axle from albany mack brought it to waterbury ct. wish some one talked tire pressure to me then !! it was like riding in the flintstone mobile . had I been old like now I'm sure my teeth would have fallen out.
  24. the accessory kit with each new truck had the 12 ton bottle jack included till early '70. it also contained two round (4in ?) lights for the back. long after each accy kit stopped the bottle jack and signals where factory installed using just two lights ;; same as today, the accy kits had the two lights.
  25. I would have to agree cab/chassis only;; no where in the order sheet do I see a 5th cost. comical the B873 is 150 lbs lighter yet $900,oo more
