  1. material may not be exact but the piston ring will take the heat, and expand for sealing the pipes. shaped different also these rings will be square cut. piston rings have a inner taper.
  2. in todays world . possibly a speed shop : give up on auto parts . some one dealing with engine building might be able to match the rings. they are basically the solid rings of a car piston. be brave and daring ;LOL , contact a Mack dealer for availability of proper rings long shot they are still out there , slightly bigger if the two flanges are worn like most
  3. cut top off gallon jug/ or empty paint can. 3/4 full of best penetrating oil you can find; ( not much around any more). let things soak. that flange WILL crack easy if hammered too much , HOW DO I KNOW !!! yep been there done that...
  4. when/if you remove them ; don't discard. they work well for top of transmissions;; lines, accy etc hold down brackets. LOL . the wired flywheel bolts = another : OH ya I remember those also.
  5. for as many of those spacers i removed/ installed; it took this forum and 50 yrs later to find out why they were used. no one in the day knew or cared why they were there.
  6. pin hole/leak in line from governor to unloader won't let compressor "unload".
  7. BIRTHDAY BEST from Connecticut.😃
  8. another just passing it on : auction Saturday =4/30/22 . located in Neapolis ,OH. listed in auctionzip by Whalen realty & auctions. titled under John Deere tractors-toys-engine auctions. a B61T with QUAD looks not bad shape hooked to era proper trailer. also a number of Mack items= first gear etc.
  9. right on with the "piston ring" sealing factor. three pieces went together and sealed with the steel rings.
  10. on a 60/70 ton BEAM lowbed ; what size is the beam? with the 1/25 scale beam lowbed i'm building  i'm figuring on a 3/4-7/8 beam which should be 18-22 in.  in real scale. am i close?

  11. happy birthday , your catching  up to us old people, LOL

  12. i can't get the proper picture. one unit has a "hole "in the frame behind the box to adjust rack & pinion. manual ? i see the effects of the old age memory situations ; don't remember last nights dinner and seem to be forgetting yrs ago things also. also there is a combo that input shaft goes in=out alot if you turn steering wheel with unit off.
  13. '66 DM with manual steering ;; don't remember one.
  14. racking the mental picture section of my brain. the manual box had the side adjuster, big sheppard had the adjusting screws top and bottom ; seems those two adjusters were for the pressure relief settings
  15. outer bearing ? meaning out put shaft bearing not the steering shaft u-joint? 7+- that's considerable play have you tried the fluid/ filter change yet. DM - sheppard box with outer rack and pinion adjuster.
  16. HAPPY BIRTHDAY :bmod_trac::bmod_trac:

  17. i 've heard stories of trucks deadline/ fined due to idiot lights not working. as inspector mentioned." if the light is there it has to work" doesn't matter if it's one of 10 on the roof or 20+on the body. reality was another ball breaking way state made money.
  18. in the mack days, there was a construction company who's dirtiest truck looked like it just came out of a museum. mack had a recall on the axle spiders . basically they had to be removed and swapped .left to right and vise versa. cams were opening opposing tire rotation and chattered. the owner and his son stood over my shoulder watching axles being removed. as was told to me "we had just removed 8 tires and REPAINTED the rims". truck was brand new. beyond spotless inside and out. a DM685sx. how do you pull axle caps/axles with not a drop of oil on the rims. a lot of rags /pan . no could not tell them sit in lounge, they had a lot of pull with management/owner. clean is good; job nerve racking
  19. i'm all in favor of a clean shiny truck , dump;; tractor or what ever. things all over have changed drastically through the yrs. dumps around here have the shiny alum bodies, tanks, couldn't count all the lights , etc. the thrill is great at the start if you are only a company driver. after a while the thrill might wear off. still have to clean /polish. my question many times is " how do you haul rock and stone in that?
  20. fleets ran them 1- cheaper due to less parts involved ;2- didn't get right side of trailers dirty with soot=== before computers and emissions , clean was important to many fleets.
  21. by now everything has been changed. the intake are regular hollow tubes , exhaust push rods are 3 times heavier due to they are "solid" rods made to take pressure. there is the possibility with all the new computerize technology they don't use heavier rods. my statements are based on when fred flintstone built things and i worked for him;;😁
  22. worked for me. wife ranting on about me on here; so i read your post REAL slow. LOL. besides i found it very interesting . how some updates are done has been know to be challenging.
  23. can remember when mack came out with the dynatard; what a joke / pain in ass. changed more exhaust push rods then i want to count. mack started out using both original in/ ex push rods. the pressure on exhaust rods so bad it was bending them. mack went to solid exhaust rods finally.
  24. just signed out and saw your post;; had to sign back in to thank you for update. now i can sleep tonight ;LOL. couldn't remember how the jake got oil supply. forgot the o-ring fitting went top of rocker assembly. back in the day joke was "made in japan"-junk.. after day of class at jacobs engine brake and seeing how the Japanese new owners saved the jake operation i was impressed. old way was spend day making hundreds of units. then check them. one bad they were all bad and thrown out. new owners had random pulls from assembly line. bad one found stop the line and make corrections.
  25. that's where confusion came about. unit looked familiar to what i remember, the pic with 90 degree fitting is different. Thanks for reply/ update.
