  1. the fitting on the side for air filter service indicator is a special fitting..should not be a clear open hole. purposely has restricted hole. filter if good or replaced can run with out the filter indicator. should be 1/8th pipe thread. a pipe plug won't be an issue till an indicator (plastic cyl with resettable plunger) is found. they are installed so owner doesn't have to keep disassembling the filter housing. plus the indicator aren't the most accurate;;
  2. don't feel bad at 71 years old I HAVE A LOT OF THINGS WORN also. sorry couldn't help myself ;;;;LOL. a number of fire dept members should have same air filter set up.I would try for a new filter element. before a wash ; do everything possible to fine a part # . at least have a number for cross-over. remember it says can be washed ;; that meant when it was a few yrs old ;; don't think it would mean 50 yrs old when the paper is dried out and water may destroy it. just sayin.
  3. the plug on the side may have been where they had the plastic service indicator.
  4. where is the outside air intake . with an either capsule container(cylinder with spring cap) on lower section i wouldn't think it has oil bath,, custom made for fire truck application hopefully as you disassemble it you keep the forum posted. custom built by body installer? is that an air or electrical wire going to top corner?
  5. WHERE IS there this week-end ??? truck show CT area. going for cordo shot right knee friday; i hopefully can walk around 25 p[us trucks 😁😂
  6. there is no way i would have seen the bird(small dot) missing. LOL . it's still fun .
  7. we are all playing with trucks ; they are just a little bit bigger ;; so we're still kids.😄
  8. another positive of days gone by ; everything had it's own sound be it the great muscle cars, the music , and the big rigs. a Detroit 318 duel 3 1/2 pipes sounded way better then todays 8 in pipe dumps. noise is noise ; that's todays "music" and 8 in pipe trucks just noise. the sound of DD, cat, cummins ,Mack and music back then will never be duplicated by today's world.
  9. old style budd wheels with inner and outer nuts always got never-seize; daytons only got lube from WD-40. a lubed thread tightens more when lubed.
  10. sure glad it was mentioned about leaving nuts on but loose and the big hammer smack. have seen wedges fly a long way, it was a "test" took the nuts off stood to the side and railed the rim with a sledge' YES they do fly at great speed and force.
  11. what's this "in the old days" LOL 😁. you referring to interstate/bridgehaven Ford ? . the old days was henry ford ; actually before my time . I like ""years ago " there were two ford dealers 😂😄
  12. thanks; in the day theses were taken the trucks were almost new.
  13. wish my mind would remind me i'm "a young fella"; when i ask it same reply= what was i suppose to remind you of !!LOL . i have a fight with my sugar , she just gets in the car and goes shopping.😁
  14. every time it's the last two each set.
  15. it's a close call for me; so close it would depend on set-up. take a R700 western, nice paint scheme, some chrome etc. i wasn't a fan of the superliner when first came out vs R's. looking at the "plastic: that's there today=CH----, the superliner is super for a HD lowbed tractor.
  16. how can they be frugal;;; there are toooo many pockets to fill to get contracts. ever wonder why so many cones and barrels at the road job sites; every cone and barrels are some of the add-ons to the cost plus contracts.
  17. if I was only 40 yrs younger. the LTSW has to be one of the best looking Macks of the time period. second cousin to the B-73/75 for a road truck .

what is the truck used for == tractor; dump;; double rail replacement on a dump sure must be a real nice shop . just sayin

location of crack seems important;; yes ? double rail weld done by professional should be safe and legal depending on location of crack. a rail replacement with the exact rail is a challenge ( i've been there); changing rail style good drill and bits;; a lot of drilling
  20. yep i remember now , monogramed names on panel cover;; black / gray in color i think. wasn't at mack by then . this forum keeps the mind going and dementia away (hope)
  21. question?? baskins reefers had 5/8? double sided laminated plywood for the walls inside. would that shed the moisture as good as marine grade plywood? i know it worked great for me turning a day cab into a"bunk" between the seats for my "motel lay-over " LOL ..$$$$ wise don't know the difference. possibly the boys at atlantic would have a partial piece big enough. weather on outside floor might run off with the laminate. just paint the wood exposed edges
  22. welding isn't suppose to be serious;; LOL .. keep it fun and a learning experience. i had 5 welders once= a 115 carry on Lincoln; 2 buss boxes; wire feed airco; and 250 Lincoln trailer mounted tow behind. it's fun to fabricate, but care is needed. road call in a blizzard to repair a bobcat cleaning sidewalks that had a broken wheel hub ; no place to connect ground without screwing up a wheel bearing== i held the ground to the wheel lug nut while laying in the snow ; well i lit up like a Christmas tree when i struck an arc. soaking wet through the coveralls from outside blizzard.
  23. alot more info is with out a doubt needed. what part of the country ordered/used ? a color? '87 were the monogramed steering wheel centers still used== did yours have one if it was custom built?
  24. based on passed events I can tell you your not the first to find two brass washers in a hole; i never heard of one causing a tap noise. like has been said by many here; life is always a learning experience .
  25. now it's got to be break time .. math is correct;two to go
