  1. if you can't find the adjusting screw (inside the wheel), a cheater way is to disconnect the air lines, take a chisel loosen the lock ring holding the can to backing plate and unscrew the can assembly. the removal of the can and inner rollers may allow the shoes to retract enough to remove the drum
  2. just watched the video, he used a hammer for indicating, same as using a block of wood or spray can ;case someone is confused about me writing the text above with block of wood etc for straightening wheel. we have all talked about the install process ; no one mentioned the danger of taking the wedges off. once saw a person come close to injury kneeling in front of the tire after taking the nuts off and hitting the tire to loosen the wedges. never take the nuts completely off. loosen them then stand on the side and hit the rim with sledge hammer. wedges will fly with force if nuts aren't on to stop them.
  3. back in the day when these trucks were brand new with daytons, how many owners hand 1 inch impact guns! it was hand work off and on. budds were common on the west coast rigs very few east side.
  4. blackdog2 62 ton concrete I-beam; did you work for blakeslee prestress ? mid 70's blakeslee rented a fleet of DM 611's from new haven truck rental. huge single axles and tandems . had 4in spacers under the 100 ton turn table fifth wheels.
  5. another skill that has been forgotten. budd wheels easy. daytons take time to be done right. no way can a dayton be done with air gun only. 3/4drive ratchet and block of wood (or spray can works-it's high enough). criss-cross by hand the tightening sequence . have seen tire casing that were out of round also. on a good day have been able to get the daytons 1/8th true. using a tall spray can, the spinning tire will show how far out of true the wheel is. good hand tight then finally tightening with air gun.
  6. Mr. Buck Your in new milford , do you know Albert ; owns AJP milk haulers from roxbury. he's had macks for years. hopefully i'll see your mack riding around town soon .
  7. would have to assume the brakes are backed off ? ridge on drum not holding wheel on
  8. sounds like inner bearing is stuck. my suggestion : put the outer bearing back on with nut left loose. this allows you to either put a couple of 2x4's or small bottle jacks behind the hub to pry the wheel off. some times hammer taps do the same.
  9. changing over to all oil use to mean changing seal type. leather grease seals didn't do well holding back oil. todays world (i'm 70 old school); leather seals probably don't exist. LOL.
  10. had a beautiful red B-81 totally done over on back of a trailer go through main st watertown CT last week . couldn't read name on truck hauling it . i would guess it's another class A job coming from Matt P. anyone know who got it? i was driving opposite direction ; no pictures taken,
  11. i can see westbrook ct on door' can't read the company name. i worked waterbury mack '69-75.if that's an original ct must have come from bridgeport mack. doesn't look like a slider 5th wheel. i welded the date on all the sliders i installed between the driver side trunnion 5th wheel rail . (40-50 wheels installed). nice truck
  12. looking for canister style fuel filter number or updated crossover number for B-61 . someone put a "modified" carquest filter and quite the home made cork gasket. going to attempt a trip to local napa dealer today. challenge to day as most of you know; first question asked = whats it for , we need vin #. can't get the primer pump to bring fuel to injector pump. that's when the journey started with removing fuel filter housing ( which was ty rapped to frame) . seems the new fuel line from filter to pump was too long . housing was removed from holder and strapped to frame. not my truck; just helping friend. good ole B61SX had rough life and is spending it's remaining life on a farm ; LOL
  13. back in the day even mack had an emergency shut-off on the pump. have only seen one mack run away. DD was common.
  14. any updates on dump body specs or even better any pictures of your DMM's. i'm back to model building thanks to cold weather and virus lock-down. always enjoy seeing scratch-built. hopefully i can get a newer catalog from plastruct . they have large selection for plastic fabrication
  15. i still have the iron on transfer with the COE mack . never put it on a shirt. big question is where is it. move from CT to TN and now back again; so much stuff got miss placed. will keep on eye out for it . have been going through boxes lately ; not much else to do in new england. too cold for yard work and virus has everyone on "lock down" . back to building truck models.
  16. we are renting up street from echo lake rd, intersection of rte 6 and 262 . will look for the stone house. definitely would like to see the R-models . this property has a great shape 50 gal Snyder gas tank ;complete. owner wants it to the dump. tag says 1972 . for free can you use it.also :: 14 ft 12 in I beam, 7 1/2 ft Meyers snow plow, hyd set up for flink sander . all stu ff I've found around here.
  17. back in the '80's few trips to Englishtown NJ truck drag races. a guy had an everyday running pete conventional.; took the fan off, air filters out, put eight tires casing on back(smooth less chance of blowing rears ), chain binders frame to rears (no hop ). he put the fuel to it and two pipes of pure smoke from exhaust. something like 84-86 mph in1/4 mile. LOL . not bad for every day road truck. he wrecked it in accident bought a double sleeper fancy truck later on.
  18. as a joke , it is funny to think about;; but in to days world have to be real careful saying that kind of stuff. being a Polish lad, heard Pollack jokes all my life. different world today.
  19. lucky you found someone that is interested in making them run again ; not someone who would make $100.00 at the scrap yard. regrettably I had an auction 2011 . 50-60 old walkbehind tractors and much more. I watched the "vultures" load up trucks and to the scrap yard they were heading. oldest was a 20's planet jr to the newest a 1949 standardtwin . the twin ran . a 1939 Viking tractor was on top of a load of steel used for fabrication. a lot can be packed in to a 30x50 work shop. Brockway had a beautiful looking truck. guyott oil in ct use to run a fleet back in the day hauling . 379/371 ??? don't remember model. neighbor used to drive one.
  20. nice ole truck. didn't know you had that.LOL thought you only did 1/32 I'm liking the house, woods seems to be great relaxing place to build 1/32 and the real ones. A+A+A+
  21. Like the DM800 , the autocar has that bold , all steel impressive look. nice truck
  22. I'd like the picture a lot more if it was the Mack trailering the A-car LOL I know the Mack is a show truck going on display
  23. sold both '49 EE dump and EF flatbed for all reasons above. saved them from scrap yard, I used the EF in hay field, EE plowed a lot of snow for me. time past , work and everything else made yrs go by. trucks sat too long I sold them .now when we moved from CT to TN then back again to CT this yr, I took my DM800 mixer, DM800 wrecker, DM600 dump and others just packed them in boxes and moved:: 1/25 scale models LOL and still they sit in boxes like they have since the late '70's . found a B-61 in Knoxville TN. owner said he's been trying to work on it; that was three yrs ago. tarp covering it is shredding and weather is hitting it.
  24. the good part of story is owner willing to sell. how may times interested person hears " nope not for sale, I'm gonna get it runnin", as the trees grow into the vehicle like in these pictures . many yrs ago rumor had it a mack jr was deep in the ct woods. (Roxbury) area. a big chain saw would be needed. and NO the owner would not sell it and DON'T get caught going in the woods to see it. I never did find it. east coast is rough on old iron in the woods. doesn't take long before they sink deeper into the ground and rust away.
  25. did you take off the SERVICE line on the other cans and release the brakes; with the wheels chocked of course. possibly another can is by-passing you can't hear. is the pedal itself working free and not oxidized to mount sticking partially on. with parts today , could be bad new valve. does it have a trolley valve that may be part way on ? did someone have lines off a can then put them on backwards ? these may sound like dumb questions, after xxxxxx yrs of 24/7 road calls ; you get to where you have to start basic with questions. 35min trip on road for liftgate not working --- power cord to trailer not plugged in. next call for same , I said to driver :" is power cord plugged in ?" ; reply - yes it is .... 40 min trip front of trailer power cord hanging . I said "thought you said cord is plugged in!!!!!! . he points to LIGHT cord and says that's it right. light cord green , 2 wire power cord black ... OK I'm paid by the hr, still have rest of fleet to maintain.
