  1. another sign old age is kickin in. after 52+ years of having a CDL license, i turned mine in yesterday to DMV. more difficult to get a medical card now a days. finding this Mack site has been a real up lift in life for me.
  2. yrs back at Mack a customer truck (KW coe ??) towed in for bad driveshaft. repairs were made, truck sat 2-3 weeks waiting for $$$ bill to be paid. customer comes in one night = i had the night shift. he climbs in - hits the key = ole DD went to wide open. emergency stop didn't work ; i climbed on back kicked out the wire mesh grate ; laid between engine and cab to manually flip emer stop. pulled valve covers later on- parts all over inside. only once saw/ heard a mack engine run away.
  3. connecticut D O T "inspectors" on paper are separate from state police. during inspections they usually wear coveralls. they might have guns locked in cars. like all situations there are the good inspectors and the bad ones.
  4. don't know if I would call it a political comment ; more like speaking the truth and we all know politicians don't do that. and to stay on topic;; more oil means better mileage. I know = best i can do
  5. now there's a sharp lookin could be service truck
  6. don't take the hyd line off the bottom of piston till last. put the cab lever in down position as you ratchet the piston down . oil has to go somewhere back in the tank is better than on the floor.
  7. you will have a helper there also== correct. there are a number of ways to remove a piston. you are comfortable with way you described . go for it. single piston with hyd tank behind cab , i put a 4x4 by hyd tank to stop piston from hitting anything. will need ratchet strap to lower ram for sure. i've use the piston to raise the body; first have everything in body ready for piston removal. secure a strap inside front near piston pin, raise body. block the body . using the inside strap to get yourself up the raised body to top pin, (climbing a mountain) remove pin , lower piston=remove. whatever way is safer
  8. just don't delete them ;;; do that i'll be stuck talking to my wife , not reading interesting info LOL
  9. not a computer person ; just a thought= older topics possibly can have the post date in a different color/print etc. for us older folk maybe BIG BOLD dates
  10. i find alot of old post by going to whos on line -then see what the guest are viewing. that turns up past history of topics. becomes a situation when finding yourself wanting to respond to old old topics
  11. never would have seen it ;; thank goodness i checked my app!!😀😁😆
  12. kinda makes you wonder doesn't it. looking for the solution =WHY! do you have the same problem or just catching up on the 6 yr old topic.
  13. anyone notice the T-2070B doesn't have a fourth gear , I know it does; missprint
  14. seems mind set of younger generation unfortunately . know a 23 yr old truck driver (relative =won't say how ) LOL that is proud of his fancy red triaxle with "flat top eights" for us older folks ,myself included ;; flat top eights means twin 8 in flat exhaust pipes. he didn't like my reply :: don't sound as good as a B81 .
  15. might not be a matter of will the e7 350 handle the 600 hp, seems more like will the one behind the wheel know how to respect the 350 pushing 600hp. have been very fortunate to learn from a REAL mechanic building a 318 DD yrs ago; he had it tuned to point where exhaust stacks were blue ; point being the driver knew the HP was there when needed. not there every time key turned on. back then not many were concerned of actual HP engine had ; just knew it could.
  16. exhaust noise was the written complaint. main issue was the two team drivers thought their sh-t didn't stink. they were also the pair given one of the first 866 's on the road for trials. FL700. i'm being careful NOT to call it a prototype this time . LOL '' I still remember the day it came in on flat bed. front axle was back passed the fuel tanks. my "baby" was totaled and I WAS PIS-ED
  17. might have to seriously consider going back to locking fuel caps. news this am showed thieves stealing from gas stations after station closed for the night. most stations (till now ) never locked the fill covers .
  18. I can only remember seeing one new mack come through with the in cab oil check set up. don't recall any with the fuel heater switch ;;last switch to left of 5th wheel .
  19. wouldn't take a lot to make nice looking cross brace. heavy wall pipe ( 1 in ? ) with ends flatten out. drill hole both ends and bolt to some brackets. duals always look sharp. my concern is the added noise behind drive side. had a customer that demanded duals on a rented COE. dual set was installed . wasn't long after came back complaining too much noise in bunk .
  20. agree with paul about the welder. have taken a number of broken out with the welder. larger nut over the stud ; welded nut gives more leverage to work broken stud. challenge not to weld base having the broken parts.
  21. "" I thought i heard a strange noise; so I turned my radio up louder" . oops, think i'm dating myself again;; Not a radio; today it's headset, telephone or whatever they use.
  22. a bank teller when asked of coin shortage , stated " there is none, the government started it". so many are in debt with plastic and when the paper dollar is worthless (like now ). no one will have coin to survive. ever stop and think of the motive behind things like james bond movies? NOT money the bad guy wants world power. check the details of the terminator movie. two came back in time because the world was a cluster f mess . sounds a little extreme (maybe ). for my grand children i feel sorry. notice how the virus is slowly coming back in the news! physer wants more of the billions of $$$ . now their saying a second dose is needed. if (when) the end shows up ; i want to be sitting in a beautiful (green dash) DM800
  23. once again another fact is proven . no matter how long a person does a job , there's always room for new knowledge . after 50 yrs wrenching never knew they were olives. i know plenty of times when the line wouldn't move i called the brass ferrells alot of other names.
  24. one of the best teachers is yourself when taking things apart to see what makes them tick. i never stop preaching safety .
  25. older style had a couple of springs under the valve plates not hefty just long enough to throw dirt or whatever. point is advised to wear safety glasses not only that project == every one. even greasing .
