  1. got to picture taking of the two superliners today. attempting to transfer/post pics ,I succeeded in deleting ALL the pictures on my phone. not many by todays standards (only 70=80). however they were important to me. sh-t happens. both units are '84's with boxes mounted on axle. one is a RWS721LST /vin 1M2V121YXEM061364. same green super shown on BMT under topic of V8 superliner -E9 400 ... 2nd super RWS700K /vin 1M3V223K3FT003286 , 335 ? Cummins. Will attempt again with pictures.
  2. WELL she's "a new girl to me " !! at my age ; can't be toooo fussy.
  3. not a "bitch fest: you are doing your part as an American trucker to advise others as to an experience which they may want to avoid.
  4. 5 ton ! first couple must shake the truck , the 2 ton back then shook first couple till body had the "cushion" for rest to fall.
  5. don't think Beard asphalt plant in Derby, (no longer in existence) was quite that large. 2 ton drop ???
  6. so now I have finally been shown my taxes going to a worth while cause. that's not a D O T worker actually knowing how to use a rake !!! can't be has to be one of Your crew.
  7. if the engine has the old style lead seal/ proper housing ; you would NOT notice it if it is still in the rear crank housing . would appear to be part of. your engine has a regular style rear seal - should have correct housing.
  8. the thick solder is what us old folk considered a rear crankshaft seal . should be a regular type seal for rear crankshaft housing, with a wear ring . supppose to use a fancy seal/ ring installer
  9. I'm really impressed with the shop it's in. taking a far out in space idea, would the second radiator cap be used for hooking aux water supply to keep gas engine from over heat during extended fire call ?? I don't think so either . enlarged the picture ; can't understand reasoning.
  10. if it's legit , someone close by could strike gold. appreciate the free offer; but more history or as stated pictures . free truck could end up $$$ when loading/moving and more gets involved.
  11. be careful when they "wire you up" ;; raises havoc with security monitors at the air ports. DR won't replace my knees before replacing both hips. at this point I have more serious issues to contend with . bringing things back to topic also ; I have developed an "engine miss in the fuel pump area " .time will tell
  12. based on reading original post and studying the pictures , I strongly advise finding a mechanic to do the job and be their assistant. brakes pulling could be simple out of adjustment. oil on shoes, bad can etc . looking at picture I see a combo brake/ trolly /stop light switch not only having wires off but a drain valve for a plug. unless of course it's there to drain excessive air !!!what the f==. lower air line has a low air sender disconnected and there's more .
  13. sure glad I read this :: I don't want to end up like you old people : LOL, having all those worn body parts . think Dr went and had couple extra drinks after seeing X-rays of my knees (2) / hips (2) and back !! his reply was "how the hel- are you even walking!!!" nothing there . side note :GLAD I'M NOT THE ONE WHO WENT OFF TOPIC !!LMAO🤣
  14. some supers and cruise liners DID have steering boxes mounted to axle. don't recall that set up with box being extremely close to steer axle brake chamber during turns. possibly going to Woodbury CT Friday ; location of two superliners. will check the steering systems and take pictures IF they have the axle mount systems. based on picture of box axle mounted ; have to wonder of the "adaptation "kit number ????
  15. sure hope so on the tax free. trip there not only for beverage but also lottery tickets. can't stand giving this rotten CT any more $$ then I do now. address would change "in a heart beat" (which isn't best right now ) to NH address then go claim lottery ticket. LOL
  16. thanks for update/ more info. oil has 5+ years on it, fuel filters the same (?) on a mechanical = could be big part of issue. might be simple fix. truck meets your approval based on condition / price / mileage ; go for it.. any answer why it was parked? non working engine brake may be another simple fix = relay: broken wire and so on.
  17. I went to Cortland last year, looking forward to this year- if I'm still around;; one of the best shows. I went "incognito; no Mack advertising shirt. LOL; possibly try another approach with asking about the company - not a Mack??
  18. so would I not be too far off going another avenue to possible RPM's may join the issue ?? once again not being there to see/hear issue adds to challenge. forum is reading of shake/shutter at certain oil pressures, not knowing units "behavior" under operating conditions== good power on road test etc. parked with fuel pedal movement only. ?
  19. were these units in convoy style or just noticed random highway haulers ??
  20. foul injector shouldn't clear itself out higher RPM's . skips a skip. dynatard not working at all?? possible totally different issue
  21. another perspective is :: ok at 32lbs .. rocky at 60 ; better 70+. oil pressure changes with R P M's =correct ? out of balance some where?? 32lbs ==idle :60lbs =RPM's ???. 70lbs + == high RPM's . dynatard o-ring leak makes a pis- poor engine brake worse , if that's possible . shouldn't create a shake/ shutter ?? this is fun ,questioning the teacher ,😅
  22. salt trucks rusted away to nothing OR were shipped over seas where they were like brand new . recently looked at a superliner which I knew the fleet . never thought salt could jack a double frame under the fifth wheel to separate over 3/4 of inch. trucks not bad shape ,but no possible way to save frame. don't think new owner will expense the job. it was bought as a parts truck for his other super .
  23. possibly three brake knobs are yellow (truck parking brakes)= blue center (master control for all brakes ); pulling blue out should set yellow and red . red right side controls trailer brake systems. bobtail yellow in -red out type situation. of course based on the rope throttle = don't guarantee any knob colors .
  24. rope for throttle cable ???? OH BOY ; guess better then dead idle . kinda makes a person want to see this unit up close or at least lots of pictures.
  25. cam/ lifters install may be a no brainer :: based on experience the cam install may be a challenge if your doing it yourself. plenty of lube, first couple of ports not bad, as the cam goes in further balancing it straight in to journals is an experience. it tends to wobble thus hitting the lifters knocking them out of place. have done EVERY scenario= load from front. or install part way then go under reaching up ( one reason my back is done) gliding cam in with a guarantee to pinch fingers. best advice is get a helper that has half knowledge of mechanics or at least follow directions. having helper WATCH YOUR FINGERS cam works like a meat slicer. repeat these words """"HELPER PLEASE GO SLOW AND LISTEN TO ME when to push cam .
