  1. what was it 's problem and why/ who disassembled it ?looking for what. can you use the vin and located /purchase the proper box ?
  2. join the "crowd" . thinking of finding full time job so I can rest. only situation is knees don't cooperate much . now I'm volunteered to baby sit 3-4 days a week !! 10 am= 2:30/3 pm . what can I expect to get done with those mid day hrs ???LOL
  3. one pictured is what was on truck after slight adaptation and didn't work in what way ? hard steer/ no steer ? did anyone put hyd lines on wrong? why was it disassembled ? do you have "original" or other steering box ? I know it's a lot of questions ; BUT not being with the parts/ unit makes it difficult to have correct answer just lots of questions.
  4. sure hope a picture or more will follow this topic, old R model ???? vin off the door, any history ,parting out ??? that bad ;it can't be saved for resto by some of the members here. I see topic says '73 ;;that's a good yr to save . possibly one piece hood. transmission ==one stick or two ??
  5. a lot more explanation of "it doesn't work " would help. binding/ shimmy/ erratic operation?????? why was it disassembled in the first place ?? or better yet why was it changed over to an "adaptation ", have to say changed to adaptation is a new one for me ::: on a steering box/front end !!!!! NO ADAPATION . right parts for safety,

  7. after time you give up on the term vacation ; it becomes "my time off " is busier than when working " . also as you get older the ambition level seems to decrease . I'm saving my $$$$$$$ for a plane ticket west to see the finished DM in person. don't take tooo long I'm not getting any younger. LMAO !!! darn near 73

  10. Mack most certainly did have twin stick cab overs. H models had with others a twin stick duplex.

  12. he's NOT slipping! this was his way of testing who is paying attention . after joey retires, He's going to be a teacher in a technical school for mechanical studies. this "slip "was just setting format for teacher to students.
  13. does this unit have a trolley valve on steering column ? brake pedal(treadle valve) floor mounted ?? is the pedal and roller working freely ? this issue sounds to be electrical not mechanical ; don't ask/don't know.

'79 ,should be a brown dash having top panel held by 4 screws ??? do you have yellow parking brake (must have ) ,remove top dash panel to see parking brake valve. seems to me some had an air valve (brake lights on when parking brakes applied. low air small white plastic having one wire which completed circuit ground on firewall as earlier posted .. there may have been an update on brake valve == 1x3/4 white plastic with 2 wires. Another post having the ; wish I could see it in person! actual brake light switch should be on the treadle valve it self. 2 in diameter /2wires

  17. in the day I have installed a number of the small bulldog on "rookie rods" . had a few "in stock "in personal inventory and gave them away when moving took place. the plastic models; B model service manuals; and so much more given / thrown away !! where's the crystal ball when you need it ???
  18. once again it's proven " never too old to learn something new!!"... what was always called a fender guide is now known as a "rookie rod "" LOL. have to admit name rookie rod makes a lot of sense. I considered them more of a decoration.
  19. unfortunately , looks as though your back to "square one" . kit you purchased can't be used . steering system isn't anything to modify . based on picture of original pin, the ugly pitted section fits the axle. not major issue IF THEY HAD TO BE REUSED . bushing ends aren't totally a loss. still need correct bushing . entire proper kit.
  20. the super tiny drill bits work well for number of projects. I have many which at a hobby shop or on line you can get the hand held drill bit holders. I have 3, one is a 0-. it goes to 0 lock the smallest bit made. works excellent on hand drilling model front axle king pins also . as Joey stated a torch tip cleaner is even better. variety of micro sizes and stronger. will clean carb ports ; unlike a tiny drill bit which may cut in to a port side wall,
  21. even looking at the Mack logo and stance of the bulldog on service manual says ; Mack is a worker. rugged and bold. once again a regret of " how would I have known to save and keep all those books and manuals I HAD.

THANK YOU for update . question I was asking pertained to rear drive axle (15/16th ? ) nuts . with this unit better than most museum pieces , the axle nuts themselves are tarnished from air gun install. going in for red paint touch up or smaller nut chrome caps ? don't know as if I would want to "slap myself " with thoughts "it's mine "! my luck a slap would wake me up from a amazing dream to find out ; only a dream. not only a major positive reading/ watching this start to finish build ; most important the inspiration YOU have given so many to continue their builds. nothing on this build was in the ordinary. the B-73 / L cab not the usual B-61 etc; roll off bed not standard . perfect color red with no over kill on chrome. can really be pis--d off I can't make Deerfield ; dates are on my calendar for Bethlehem/ Brooklyn/ Macungie
  23. excellent page of reference ; I'm not sure they are all Mack axles although it is in a Mack manual ;; also considering fact I know I didn't work on or remember working on every one.!!. remember the king pin having a threaded top for adjustment (way back ).FA600 series

  25. the later straight pin kits have the larger bearing on bottom between spindle and axle which take the unit weight. reason for tapered lock pin through axle and king pin,
