  1. yes they did. smaller one's came with the tin cup as JoJo mentioned.
  2. seems todays " mechanic" will just replace a worn yoke . days gone by the speedi-sleeve saved an owner a lot of cash. don't know if the computers would be able to diagnose a leaking seal today. a good friend and owner operator had his KW upstate with a problem. took it to a dealer only to be told " we don't know the answer to your problem; hopefully you can make it back to CT. that's after 3 hrs of jerk around at $200.oo per.
  3. the sighs of a true MECHANIC ;; repair :: don't replace; make additional use of everything. and so "i've heard " if you break a shot glass the tin cups also work for a replacement !! after hrs of course.
  4. nice addition to a superfine collection, order placed.
  5. in the day ; they were called "speedi-sleeves-" for rear end yokes or wheel seal applications.
  6. you weren't thinking of any one in particular I hope !!!LOL
  7. no excuse now ;; LOL , waiting for the day of picture post of the 1/25 th scale AND the real DM all being finished.
  8. sadly it's an election year; with the dirt bags in political offices using the hardships of those who sacrificed and worked to build a country to be proud of as worthless political propaganda . pocket filling seems to have overtaken this country . don't help those that built this country; what's in it for me.
  9. before the days of walk in sleepers. C O E's having extended sleeper room had drom boxes. nice looking unit. picture of days gone bye. the better days ,
  10. that's where the name "suicide sleeper " came from :: a bit to get in , and if an emergency arose ,, anyone in the sleeper was a done deal; couldn't get out in time.
  11. does unit have two(2) spin-on filters ,or one spin-on with second being older scrapper cartridge filter ?? two fuel tanks or one ? has two , did you close off cross over valve so as to pressurize only one tank. some units had fuel supply on one tank with return to other tank > pressure to both tanks would pressurize the return also. no way would I recommend 45 psi to a fuel tank!! doesn't take that much. with super clean around transfer pump; remove caps/ hand pump check the nylon T shaped check valves. reinstall. filters full of fuel and SLIGHT pressure to tank having feed line ;; try to start unit. on occasion , with engine spinning the transfer pump working the fuel should move . stuck check valves may restrict fuel movement if pump not in motion.
  12. east coast didn't see many R's with sleepers in fleet form. company's need of driver sleeping mostly went with cab overs (F's/G's). owner operators leased to company's would run conventional with small sleepers (known as suicide sleepers in the day). when an R /sleeper showed up at the dealer or on the road it caught attention due to it's unusual appearance. finding the exact model sleeper will be a challenge due to as previously mentioned ; the number of different ones made is a long list. west coast area more common. some where I have a photo album of pictures from the '80's taken at englishtown NJ raceway during the annual truck races. finding it will be easier then posting pictures. personal life has a number of challenges at the moment ;; can't guarantee when I will locate it.
  13. can't drive that far (anymore); but maybe I'll fly out and give You a hand .be REAL GOOD to get outta CT for a long while.
  14. does the unit have two glad hands at the back by the pintle?? dump having tag trailer capability use the trolly same as a tractor uses for trailer . trolly is a hand version of treadle valve. on dumps not having trailer/air brakes for tag alongs; the trolley can be hooked to rear wheels of the dump truck itself.
  15. not sure of the "weird looking fitting". picture be helpful . should only be a cross over line from one tank to other, new standards don't allow cross over line located on angle iron connecting the two tanks lower to ground due to hazard of road debris ripping line causing fuel leak. additional fitting on tank may be for access to fuel:: asphalt haulers had them for getting fuel to spray tail gates . by pictures I would recommend some cans of brake clean and spray filter bases and primer pump area before removal of filters.. also one filter change at a time. clean// remove/ install new filter. possibly another cut back , but the new filters had a plastic cover which i put back on the new filled filter to slip in to position for reinstall. helped keep out dirt.smaller loss of fuel when tipping new filled filter in to spot. then remove the cover= install filter (2). hopefully hand primer works after two filters changed.
  16. wasn't for the buffalo winter : been there/ seen that: changed a KW steering box on side of highway during ice storm, bet you could have crawled under , stuffed a rag in the hole to prevent oil loss (reason it seized up ?) and drove more. LOL.. also in '71 must have been 30 w oil not 0-20w crap of today.
  17. you can't do that with todays crap ; computer gets a signal of faulty cyl , engine off.
  18. why of course not changing the subject ::ready = the shortage of fed funds to Connecticut will stop the Connecticut construction trucks from running due to lack of payment.
  19. 11 million !! ; guess the 3 million from the feds won't go to far. BILLIONS can go to ukraine (for money laundring) "war effort" , but this country gets sh--.
  20. now that's a totally different switch for the blink blink . center dash had headlite/park light switch also a marker light switch . left of the steering column ; top corner was the blinky switch which was spring loaded. up was flash headlights; down was a blink of marker/ clearance lights. of course that goes way back when common courtesy ruled the roads among truckers.
  21. as the saying goes" pictures worth thousand words " ;; those pictures are more then a thousand words for me :: more like speech less. what a beautiful lookin piece of machinery. thanks for the photo.
  22. would not the temp sensor be a single wire harness while speedo should be a two wire ???
  23. another case of :: a picture is worth a thousand words. picture of cut wires/location / etc
  24. cab top corner clearance lights USE to be connected to marker light switch . center 3 went on with park/headlite switch; two outers WERE separate in event a problem occurred there would still be top lights. I don't have diagram or fuse number.
  25. hand primer was a major asset in a road call toolbox. especially when "cost cutting" started to eliminate them on newer units, or they were removed by a mechanic to put in his toolbox! LOL
