  1. also seeing his truck is an '88 R690 vs a '75 R685; that type of yr spread anything possible. for original question == it's all ok run it .
  2. noticed location (AK) and spreading lime. could be the closer model number is a RS/RL western, making things like rockwell rears more do able .
  3. I never knew the relationship between oil pan size and number of oil filters. for a while Mack had the huge oil pan total was 31 qts ; 3 filters ??
  4. rackin my brain on this one ; should remember . question I have is the rating on the rears 34k /44k and so on. can't remember a round tube in 55k class. 34's with lighter spring set up and rubber bushings ?? I know as stated other vendors made "mack" parts. 92/93 carriers ; going with the R 685 is an R685st . are both units same gvw rating ?
  5. I think we are brother-in-laws.I know my wife has a sister but maybe she has two. does your wife have a sister (my wife ) . sounds like something my wife would ALSO do, LOL
  6. another sad situation of so called progress. I always bought the aeroquipt hoses in a roll and cut /made my own with reusable fittings(providing they were still good). original fittings were a three piece assembly ; which required a tool to assemble (large philips screwdriver at times) . newer ones became a two piece unit = much easier. challenge was not to peel inner lining of hose. the feed/return lines for Mack canister oil filters were never a problem THEN . things change = tooo bad the changes weren't for the positive.
  7. darn fancy set up for a rigging co having all the chrome and alum. basically it's a triaxle dump set up having a HD flatbed instead of dump. being an "ole dog lover", takes a while for me to "warm up "to new. R's taking place of B's wasn't bad; valueliner /superliner replacing R took getting use to and so on. these new models discussed even on here are a challenge. point is that's one fine looking Mack = the plastic round design will take some adjusting to . LOL just my thoughts.
  8. besides the $$$ main difference is ::what is the unit going to be used for. ??? bronze/ brass always better then rubber . even in the "dinosaur days" cam bushings were bronze vs plastic. maintenance also plays a major part in vehicle set up.
  9. the learn as you go mind set is what makes a good mechanic . books can teach ; doing has a better result (sometimes) .. with chances of remembering .
  10. no QR you may have slow response when releasing the brakes= whole purpose of QR just as it says ==quick release.. total over haul of brake system with all the newer up dated valves it is possible one of the relays/ anti compounding valves may double as QR.
  11. reread AND enlarged the picture. missed part of in was port having blue cap. was figuring bottom brass port was inlet with control on side blue cap port. would still hoook an airline to in port see what happens. a regulator valve would possibly have an adjustment possible. where was the valve hooked to or near when on the truck. 1/4 air oquipt line would be regulator for whatever.
  12. different ;yes =not that different. did you try putting a feed air line to bottom and a controllable air source to side inlet slow increase pressure see if outlet opens at a reduced setting. could be real fancy and install an air gauge on outlet port to check opening pressure or max pressure .
  13. don't know if a tank retriever is going to totally lift the tank with boom extended completely. boom in it may nave capacity to lift unit to load on a trailer.
  14. speaking of the landing gear; two pistons 4-6 diameter, 2 in rams ?? look to be 18in long. I found a DM steel nose with same body set up on auctionzip. nice looking set up .. think DM said it had 22 ft body.
  15. have to be very careful in todays "yuppie" world ; you might get into trouble for cruelty to animals. can't remember the name , there used to be a gadget put in the ground that emitted a vibrating pulse which would deter the moles. my Father used old fashion spring loaded spike. -got a few. he also had a small retriever dog which got more woodchucks through the years. when we heard the dog barking, we knew take the gun go out to whatever stone wall ; find the dog. many times never used the gun. as we were taking wall apart, the dog ran in the hole - pulled chuck out.30-40 think was one count .
  16. I always found the Australian Macks some what mind boggling. USA had the basic eastern R's;U's and so on vs the USA westerns which were besides high HP more "decorative" . the Australian Macks were /are set up so different for practical operations . the twin air intake, front cow guards, are made for pulling the freight trains. a positive in a number of ways.
  17. I have been shown to make an X from one ear to opposing eye and same for other side. where the two imaginary lines cross --BANG . we never dipped entire hog in CAST IRON water pot. hog went on large table and BURLAP bags were placed on the hog with hot water poured on burlap. excessive hot water and skin turned . we used candle scrapper for hair removal. boy did I get my self in trouble one year when I had gloves on due to cold out door temp. old timer said "YOU NEVER WEAR GLOVES!! you will never get glove off in time if hand goes in boiling water tub. pull glove off and only thing will be my bones =no skin. so much knowledge the old timers had in such a simpler day. so much common sense is lost todays world.
  18. 194 not 195 sorry.
  19. another change having me shake my head and wonder;; your saying can't pull the twist lock and install a new 195 bulb ?? for the younger generation 195 was the bulb number in my day.
  20. "no power scotty" have to admit the part of star trek that had my interest was Lieutenant O'hura . she can pilot my ship any day.
  21. keep up the excellent work ; I'm still working on possibility of driving to NC , spend time with my younger Sister and coffee/ beverage with some BMT members.
  22. it ONLY goes to 14K ; that means it can /should go more.!! sorry couldn't help myself. long day of work and I"M COUNTING ON TURNING CLOCKS BACK tonight.. us old people need our ni nite time.
  23. another reason glad I'm "over the hill" and short timer on this planet. another 25-30yrs those youngsters still alive will look at their next generation and say "what the fu---. glad my parents aren't here to see this, they had enough problems with the beatles bring over the long hair.
  24. missed a part= Charley Snith was the old timer at Mack who ran the wrecker and was my wrecker mentor. LOL learned a lot and fortunately forgot a lot . many calls became a "you did what !!!!.
  25. seems I always had a "fascination " for HD wreckers. basically it's man and machine against "the world" . million dollar wrecker is worthless if operator didn't have skill to operate it correctly. while at Mack I was fortunate to work the wrecker ('57 Diamond T with homemade wrecker =power up and watch out on down free fall ). Smitty (Charles Smith ) was a piece of work! in a positive way ; EXCEPT when he was pis--ed off. heard him swearing watch out tools went every where. on one bad day, I was on a creeper = swearing started :: I had NO WHERE TO RUN. watched as wrenches scaled the garage floor. LOL the good days can NEVER be relived . so sad. nice wrecker
