  1. never let mechanics stump you ; got think a little bit more outta the box at times to over come the challenges thrown at you. after all said and done the overwhelming sense of good feeling is great; you may find your self looking at what ever was challenging and say to it "got U ya SOB" LOL now done tell me all you out there laughing I'm the olny one who has ever had "discussions with mechanical parts🤣🤣
  2. AMEN from east coast;
  3. one of many untold stories of real Heros. kept my total interest while watching the movie of The Dam Busters. sad unfortunate situation as war is; the technology developed and engineering used was amazing. unlike todays world where computers are used . THANK YOU for revisiting an important part of forgotten history. Also lest we not forget 9/15/23 (Friday) is POW /MIA Recognition Day (in US). everyday is veteran recognition day in my book.
  4. that's where the phrase "a diamond in the ruff" came from. need a perfect example of the phrase check the B73 L cab of Matt's; ruff to nicest "diamond " ever.
  5. excellent . getting a better understanding of operation; thank you for updated pictures. if correct, the bed rails go outside of the four brackets =two on pivot of truck and two on the frame extension. dropping the rear stabilizer then extending the bed as the stabilizer is raised , it more a gravity tipping the bed not a two way piston pulling the bed up? short version ;LOL that is one long slide piston. noticed the "custom" exhaust pipe flapper keeping rain out. 5in exhaust has an adapter bring pipe to 6in ?
  6. years back in CT , waterbury sand and gravel had a fleet of C- models hauling dump trailers. they were across street from Waterbury Mack. watched them go by all day. sharp looking unit then and now. "older cousin " of the DM-600. C' were another style which were impressive looking no matter configuration used for ;;; mixer/ flatbed/ etc.
  7. everything looking great, definitely looking forward to day of seeing it complete and operational . have to admit I'm confused as to how it works. understand long piston for body slide. two rear pistons lower 1- for stability ;2- raise the body. assembly has 4 pivot points (2 per side) . could understand if had two fixed positions to work off of. have to wait for the day to see it work . can use the excuse of not understanding operation due to fact I 've been sick as a S O B last few days . covid/ flu some bull s--t , no sleep or food. body going to be red or black ??
  8. red 800 a thing of beauty yet I keep glancing up at the two towers .difficult to forget nor do I want to forget 9-11. I was waiting at the house that morning getting ready to go to work and head to NY for a day of deliveries.
  9. it's all good ; no doubt you DID HAVE IT FIGURED OUT = what is meant ; not you did not figure it out .
  10. It's all good; no doubt You didn't have it figured out. sorry for undo concern. being old school using math on paper not on cell phone/computer, seemed close.
  11. If the B73 has a 249 WB mounting a 24ft body , isn't there going to be excessive overhang? 249= 20ft +- ; axle to back of cab ? (5-6 ft ) body hinge mounted close to rear axle ; jerr dann has 6in side rails ? :3 1/2 new crossmembers ? sitting on 2= 6 in subframes ?guessing based on excellent pictures posted.
  12. years back one of my customer/ part-time jobs had a B61SX which had cracked trunnions, they had a professional welder come in and make repair the right way. he cut a massive gouge in trunnion and with stick rod rewelded back to new condition. todays world everything wire feed welders . the prep is the important part. if BOTH sides are cracked ,you are in different position. $$$ and time wise a set of cut off replacements might be the way to go. with all the cracks , has this unit been over worked? or abused !
  13. progress on a positive note always a good thing. looking at the shop work being done in :: that yours ? large/ neat clean / organized ;; got my vote.
  14. dry air cleaner / pintle hook front bumper for pushing / guess to be 24" rubber. high horse power ,don't recognize paint scheme . big boy on hood. real nice
  15. Plunske going to make another wrecker or just towing for someone? 800 make a fine wrecker , little chassis stretch or keep as HD recovery tractor . have to look at map; drawing a blank with the location= 22 east/west
  16. total appreciation of reply . family medical always takes priority.
  17. lest we all NOT forget this Monday =9/11/01 or this Friday = 9/15/23 :: POW /MIA recognition day. so 🎖️many innocent lives lost 🏅
  18. In todays world I do my best not to set myself up . it's no longer a tranny ;; always a transmission . LOL
  19. years back I was told to "take a shot of Jagermeister each day, will never have stomach problems". can't say I had one everyday but considering the "abuse" physically /mentally I have put this body through it may work. never ate/slept right . single had the worse eating habits. mechanic had definitely the worse sleeping habits. never get shots(needles) for flu/ covid or other illnesses . will probably change now that I wrote this though. and "knock on wood"(hitting my head at moment) ,don't get sick much.
  20. I never do the boasting thing. for me it is/was an internal feeling of satisfaction (pride). going from Mack trucks to baskin robbins which ran a fleet of DD and so fortunate to have been mentored by one of the best DD mechanics , after so many trials and errors of setting a Detroit Diesel fuel rack ; to watch each injector flip at the same time always got from me "yes you mother fu--kr got ya. get each head perfect then go to the governor to get both heads .never got a 318 to turn stack tips blue like Jimmie my mentor did.
  21. another sign of the times I guess would be something so simple as to say after an engine build that goes 100% correct I have pride in my work.. the pride idea seems to have gone in a totally different direction. so many times after an engine rebuild (total) the anxiety of hearing it first start , check for leaks , stare at it and (when no one around ) want to pat yourself on the back . thinking back , I was more excited after an engine start up for first time then sitting in hospital waiting room while wife was giving birth to our daughter!! I know "your a sick puppy" LOL
  22. If the concentration of engine work didn't wear you out it means you don't give two sh-ts about you work. the physical of mechanics isn't always the worse part ;; the mental fatigue is also a major factor. engines lookin good. i sure do miss the days of engine/ transmission building , unlike todays world of "throw it out put in a new one"
  23. there is no such thing as "done almost nothing so far "" ..you are pondering the next forward move. it may take a few hrs to ponder;; which may result in "studying" the TV set for positive info. and we all know studying the TV set CAN NOT be done properly if one finds themselves thirsty. just sayin LOL
  24. are you still going with dark green outside dark brown inside ???? going to be a dump again or 5th wheel . make heck of a flat bed

    Ups

I lost interest in modern day sports years ago mainly due to $$$ paid. baseball is on fake grass, with high tech watching every move. retired sports "stars" can't do cleaning commercials any more ;; they don't get uniforms dirty. LOL black /white TV ::Ruth; Marris; Mantle etc. the fun days. for the UPS people and others being behind the wheel deserves proper pay in todays world. my brother drove UPS doubles for yrs. he left; too many rules. they had it figured as to what foot was used to step in vehicle first to save time and other "cost cutting : factors.
