  1. not saying clutch linkage broke; could be a bolt/ pin was loose and the "shock" of clutch slamming up did the trick . purpose of my recommendation to have some one under side while another moved the pedal. also questions like was it in gear when foot slipped ; can it be put in gear with engine running and clutch keeps it disengaged . not being there can only recommend. post stated he was going there today to check; hopefully answers are posted today or soon.
  2. and do you think your on that list alone !!! list of stupid me is way tooo long to print. give one =quit college to be a diesel mechanic !!
  3. so majority vote is foot slipping off clutch pedal not related to stuck trans?? have removed a number of shifter levers for problem mentioned to do exactly stated with large screwdriver to reposition trans to neutral. don't remember any due to slipping clutch pedal.
  4. 48 CY dump body; darn that's massive.one of my part-time/customers =job bought a DM811SX triaxle from down southern way . had huge body compared to east coast standards. 673 turbo with quad. standard steer tires no floatation's. lime green with white top. sharp truck and fun to drive . don't forget the all important pictures of your RD888
  5. rain outside just means you go to interior work. there's always the pop up tent idea . you can drive it into the garage far in without hitting door ; your wife won't mind the fiberglass dust floating through house will she !!🤣
  6. if you have serious interest in this unit , is there the possibility of you having access to a pressure/steam cleaner to give it a major good bath to hopefully eliminate some of the questionable leak source ? and narrow down exact leak. long idle time isn't good for any diesel. even with a loader unit running should be above idle .
  7. ambition seemed low today ,spent some computer time looking at the Mack trucks which led to large Macks ; the M-100 which only three were made -huge. never realized or thought of huge units being made. east coast in the states had low numbers of over size units . for a real laugh ended up on unusual large type trucks . there's some units out there then you just shake you head at .
  8. now there's some super positive to this site ; LOL took the truck to his prom in '91 !!! 1-that shows there some young blood adding input here.2- a firetruck was taken on a prom date ; not to be taken in an offensive way ; but would that qualify under "you might be a red neck if " =sorry couldn't help myself. being fortunate enough to be raised in farm country I had an older cousin who used his single axle dump truck for his dating /marriage situations. wasn't common yet practical . if help is available 41mack this is the place to find it. best of luck in your search and resto.
  9. don't want to go off B-73 resto topic ;at this time it's aways important to say THANK YOU, SIR and many others for YOUR SERVICE. lest us not forget sept15 is POW/MIA recognition day. and the B-73 work is excellent
  10. look at the bright side ;;; sanding in the rain not only washes of the sanding but keeps the dust down LOL. and the rain helps you from building up a sweat . LMAO.
  11. don't forget the pictures .LOL mack trans should have ident stamped in side of case. hopefully you will get it rectified. when you do a follow up on here always helps the next guy. even yrs down the road. i spend a lot of time going back to post from yrs back. interesting how many times a question comes up related to earlier post.
  12. ok it's late :: don't think it would be an auto trans with a clutch ;;!🙃
  13. i would recommend checking a couple things before $$$$$ at a dealer. with one in driver seat another under neath AND FINGERS /HANDS CLEAR watch movement bottom side while driver pushes clutch >WITH ENGINE OFF . possibly slam dunk of clutch sheared a frayed cable ? at least you can see if the clutch arm on trans is moving. bolt on clutch arm may have been loose and arm moves clutch cross shaft in bell housing isn't. which is another option::'97 is tooo new for me ; don't know if the bell housing even have an inspection hole any more. flashlight and safety glasses look up inside while clutch being depressed. course before all this I should have asked (as Jojo did ) info;; is it a standard transmission at least ????
  14. can't say ever heard one like that. not to be harsh but a few details would help ::: truck was loaded : going uphill/downhill/ .. like Jojo stated =model numbers - info of any kind not to mention the all important pictures. clutch still works normal ;; does it go to floor easy due to cable pin off ??? new /old clutch ?? just a few examples of helpful info.
  15. THANK YOU can't possibly cover it but at this time it will have to😢
  16. getter done Bob ; it will be ready for shows soon ; we are all counting on you
  17. have (had) two uncles whom served WWII .one was a Purple Heart recipient and a POW . survived Omaha beach . both had backs which looked like craters from being hit by shell fragments. neither ever to my knowledge talked of those days. My Brother was fortunate enough to survive Viet Nam. upsetting me the fact Viet Nam was never a war ; it didn't meet the requirements of a war !!!! it was a conflict. are you fu--in kidding me over 58 thousand died and are still dying and suffering and it didn't meet the requirements. don't want to take a positive topic and turn it negative, just upsetting when military service people are turned in to pawns for a few who think its a game.
  18. years back as a volunteer fireman we were fighting a brush fire when a call came in for a bad wreck center of town, I got in chief car and we headed to scene. got there before ambulance crew: they were a volunteer group also at the time. seems a father with his wife and three daughters went to pass a car on straight away unaware of a car pulling out of side road. he swerved ;car went down an embankment and wrapped around a tree. I got out of car to see a little girl laying in the road mumbling = they say she couldn't cry due to so many broken teeth. I went down embankment to help carry stretcher with father on it. heading toward the car someone yells out DON"T LOOK IN THERE . to this day glad I didn't. daughters in back were unrecognizable . two daughters and wife dead at the scene. I do my best to avoid that road even today .my stomach gets sick to point of throwing up. find myself swerving to side as to not "run over that little girl" ; always wondering if she survived.
  19. no offence but alight bar ON TOP it will look like a tow truck, this B-73 is in a class ALL BY IT'S SELF. possibly lights built into the head ache rack will look custom and be a safety addition AND be ONE OF A KIND as this B-73 is.
  20. had to go out and buy more ink for the printer ::LOL .keep the pictures coming. if my wife had an interest in trucks , she'd be like me =outta words ( and that's never happened) for the build.
  21. head board having lights mounted in it ? the winch going on deck or under with roller set up in front ? bed looks fantastic. looking forward to pictures of wood when finished.
  22. if his has seals , he has the 9-10 type III ??????
  23. going back to description , it is stated "mine are type III 9-9 " that set up doesn't have seals . top cap seals , on bottom the thrust bearing and screw adjuster seal bottom.
  24. double checked the parts picture (page3) again could be angle =to me those pins don't have a lot of taper from what i remember . so much easier to have parts in hand .
  25. one of the many confusing things is the picture of the pin sure looked straight to me not tapered. realize alot has to do with pictures posted. the bushings in one pic looked to have off set grease holes another angle holes looked center as should be. as had been stated many times in a variety of post = wish we were there to actually see the project.
