  1. now I see the relationship between this saddle and torque arm topics, under this condition I would understand the leaves cracking havin to take all the sway movement. making a noise loud enough to be heard in the cab while moving would indicate one heck of a crack with major walking between the individual spring leaves themselves. have seen 55lb rears having completely broken leaves walking NOT having a audible noise heard in cab. I would guess the noise would be a snapping type .

  3. I thought that is the signs of a real mechanic !! good to know I'm not alone with my work benches . have been around Mack fire equipment for a while [ even setting up two while at Mack trucks . never saw that style nozzle with the Mack insignia.
  4. another case of not hearing the noise, attempting to make a call on past experience. for the springs to be that worn is a questionable situation (for me). alot of $$$$$$ being spent on ; well maybe this will fix it : hair line spring cracks shouldn't make a noise. cracked leaves would be seen. walking leaves show up. how far out of line are the trunnions on a turn??? did you try making a hard turn when the noise shows up , then stop the truck =SET THE BRAKES then raise body and do an outside walk around checking rear assemblies for noise ?? is there a torque arm for side sway which may have worn ball joint ???
  5. did anyone check the wear on the trunnion shaft ends. ?? new saddles / bushings shouldn't walk or wobble . missing the ears on saddles appears to be another cost cutting make it cheaper idea.
  6. maybe it's the 10 pm or the yukon jack fire which is causing the confusion ;;BUT book from decades ago (my time frame ) shows the curved top as current VS flat top non-current. remember the curved one ; handled too many. thought the flat top showed up after. ???
  7. middle of the night ; side of the road pouring rain or snow it's amazing the ideas a person can come up with to "get er done" ; especially a broken pitman arm {back on topic }

  9. proper tools are always the best road to take ; if the usage can justify the cost, which you can due to more then one time use. this case a 1/2 or 3/4 drive socket for one time use could be $$$

  11. I had/have a 3/4 drive which was used many times. for a possible one time repair " flat stock also works.
  12. not understanding the "dumb ass part ??? seems to me your advice is correct. disassemble / clean/ inspect/ reinstall if nothing worn or broke.
  13. also keep in mind :: proper replacement parts DO NOT have to come from an R model only.
  14. a piece of 1/4 x 1or 1 1/4 flat stock and an adjustable wrench work well for removing the end cap. there is a HD spring inside the end. NOT a lot of tension, just heavy coil. I would remove end cap, turn steering enough to remove pitman arm the spring is behind ball cap. Have seen the spring break causing excessive "play/slop". parts should be ::1- end cap = 2 ball end caps = 1 spring. nothing broke then clean everything and reinstall. torque/ tension on end cap is ??? . tight enough it won't fall out BUT not that tight steering binds. broken spring then === search for new.
  15. had to be careful running the D2 ; without the seat belt (if it had one ) the bounce could throw you right out of the seat , Have seen the D-9 ; had hopes of running with a Keen transport driver I know to the pits out west where they "grow "monsters for equipment. D-11 would be on my bucket list to see. years back Marino Crane had the biggest (at the time ) crane . I talked to him about the specs and the building of it. mind boggling.
  16. liked the entire video ; part 21;30=21:50 ? with the ole Mack pourin black smoke was great. can definitely relate to the movie. have pictures of my Grandfather and his team of horses and wagon working on the building of stevenson dam in oxford ct. bought what was left of his 200 acre farm in 1978 with hopes of keeping it going. work isn't work when it's an enjoyable moment. miss the farming life style.
  17. that's lookin real good. not counting fact we might be moving soon;I have tooooo many projects going on now. sit down time to build a number of 1/25th scale projects even seems difficult to come by lately. that 1/14th is tempting . past summer I increase my 1/25 inventory more than I should have. doesn't take much when a complete kit is bought just for fuel tanks /wheels/or an engine.
  18. a TD 9 is a bucket loader ' D9 one heck of a large machine. always liked the terex lime green machines. IH 250 with 4 in 1 bucket has my vote. very versatile machine for home owners yard work.
  19. last roof I was on. it buckled(steel panels) and I fell 17 ft on to concrete floor. lost 1/2 in my spine . crane would have been better ;; how's that for back on topic ..

  21. you noticed that also. one fine candidate for restore and fun. got my vote. long as I don't have to get to back valve cover; LOL ;then the vote might change a little.!!
  22. it's a reman;; double check the shims (if any) making sure the reman process was done properly and a shim hasn't turned blocking oil gallery . before or after .
  23. both should be done. front rear end requires intermediate driveshaft to be disconnected from front rear output . NOT completely removed just front side to allow bracket to be installed. both rears will work together better having sway control on each.
  24. these topics sure help an ole mans memory come back to life, 4 bolts are removed and the 4 studs installed with 5/8 fine thread nuts out /course thread in to housing .. now I can't remember if it's "safe" to remove ALL 4 bolts same time or remove two and install two studs then remove other two bolts ???
  25. just mind boggling for me as an old man to see the cost cutting things happening in to days world. eliminating four bolt holes . bad as no more dip sticks on engines !!WTF . picked up some brakes shoes for trailer 2 weeks ago ; had to check box ::1-make sure right parts inside;; 2- see if hardware kits included= some aren't.. so glad i'm on short end of stick of life cycle. no predrilled or place to anchor bracket is a challenge wrong mounting will break / damage something. does this have light rears or something ??
