  1. in the day when dayton wheels were common ; budds were "high end "or fleets . many tire company's changed the tires on the unit. mainly the front steer. reason being they didn't want to use the time or have "static " from drivers the front wheels wobble. took a few minutes changing steer axle wheels /tires to get them true within 1/8=1/4 in . by dismounting/ mounting tires on the unit tire co not responsible for wobble wheel. watched many/ did a few. real pain in ass . budd wheel tire changing still on art when changed on truck
  2. the bigger the tire the easier the job. little john Deere 318 riding mower tires were worse then a Farmall H rear tire for me, and the Farmall tire was loaded.
  3. I know I'm old when it takes 12 hrs to replace 4 torque arm bushing in a KW . apparently it's expected to take spring saddles off to replace bushings. the 7/8bolts go from brake assembly towards rears . can't remove the 5 1/2 in bolts they hit axle spiders. u-bolts so close to saddles , can't remove even with a thin wall socket. never got to the three remaining air bags for changing. 5 in die grinder with cut off wheels cut the 7/8 bolts . putting new rubbers in arms biggest cluster. cleaned/ honed ; still couldn't press new ones in !! this has become a young mans(person) job.
  4. R-611T== 673T with a roadranger ??? Thanks for picture. hope more pictures in future;; interior/ engine compartment.
  5. wasn't much better performance ; but sure had a heck of a nice sound out the exhaust.
  6. It's not only a story you should tell and be extremely proud ;also interesting the way you distinguish between your children . large/medium/ small/extra small.
  7. trying to free it up for very little gain on braking could result in cracking the casting , now you end up looking for a spacer to take the gap in system. not leaking ;let it be. as earlier stated on my hino FA exhaust brake worked well , not holding back 80K cross country either.
  8. everything different todays world. especially when pulling injectors . how's that
  9. on my way ;; "ball bus- T -ur🤣 LMAO
  10. yes I remember the polaroid ;no didn't have one. seeing all new Macks being built ;for me it was pure Heaven and then some.
  11. without set backs the final objectives won't seem as worth it; trying to be positive. ask Matt with the B73. guess it has to be in a person's blood to do these crazy things to keep old iron running . I'LL TAKE THE HIT FOR GOING OFF TOPIC ,
  12. spent a week at Allentown plant back in early '70's. walked the entire production line . chassis starts upside down for suspension ; at end of track one it flips over goes up track two for eng/trans/ cab/completion and drive out. point is no such thing as cell phones then ; doubt cameras were permitted.
  13. correct on the eng/ trans combo lift at the factory.. also remember they didn't have a cab on when combo was lowered on chassis. and the production line had over head cranes . just sayin. looking at earlier pictures with eng/ trans combo removed with chains , the rear of combo has a wooden block UNDER the brake drum !!!! . darn that's dangerous. jack stands in front holding everything "stable" . minimum should have angle iron ; two holes through which bolt to bell housing . NOT condemning anyone ;; been there done that , am reminded every day of short cuts / "it will work " episodes I took. try to explain my screw ups so youngsters don't get hurt.
  14. not leaking . just leave it . takes up the gap. my hino had similar set up.
  15. NOPE :: a 994 rubber tire NG for going in to brush around tooooo many trees LMAO🤣 I know take trees down;;; can't I only rent here. not that landlords care of the improvements.. also a gated driveway . 994 won't go between. now a 345 excavator would make short work of the stone wall gates AND the trees. 😂 would be almost as much fun as the blizzard of '78 ;; spent days after on a TD25 bushing snow into the river as triaxles brought it in. owner of a near by diner comes over ask if I could "plow" his parking lot in between loads. I says where should i put it . he points to a pile of snow : says over there. OK spring time that "pile" was what was left of a car. guess roof couldn't take load factor of dozer.
  16. case 580 definitely a more versatile machine . rubber tires vs tracks advantage depending on goals and objectives hoping for. my situation leans more towards a 450/555 track machine. the jd 1450 with loader I did the clutch on was promising ; parts availability scary. can really cut some job time with a cat 977 ,
  17. don't think it's limited to only your area trying to find someone to cut rings. wide spread . have 15 mins before leaving for Dr appointment. knew I should have stayed off BMT. will be in Dr office racking brain cells trying to picture head gaskets of days gone by to see fire rings/ grooves. late now !!
  18. the 40K mileage added quickly with the frequent trips from TN to CT. once back to tax ridden CT , didn't go to far with the GMC
  19. other end of the "stick"; I took advantage of the insane prices for vehicles . had a '17 GMC duramax which I bought end of '18 with 22K miles. excellent truck had pin striping and extras. put 40K miles on it ; traded it in on my new jeep in '21. point is the dealer paid me for trade in just under what I paid for it 3 yrs before. the RV topic was out the window (according to wife) ; regen was breaking my ba-ls ; wasn't using it enough . didn't need it . couldn't say no when offer was 14K higher than on line listings. dealer wanted older units.
  20. large 8 hole side cover should be above filler plug . would be nice to have a follow up .
  21. It's a JEEP thing!!!!🦆🦆I have two on my dash . finding a jeep parked , leave a duck with tag on the drivers door handle. I carry a bag of rubber ducks with tags. have seen and talked to jeep owners having numerous ducks. for me it's a way of adding a little positive in a sad world we live in. also there is the "jeep wave" . besides liking the 2021 Mojave I have the people for the most part are fun. same as the B-model / Mack people. jeep duck kinda like the Mack coins= having one is a=== almost said pride thing. not sure if that's wrong today also .. having one is a proud thing!!🦆
  22. and with the backhoe , you can dig a deep hole for burying the sh-t ; cause we all know it gets pretty deep at times around here. good news on the pin; hopefully a little searching will turn up the rear counter weight.
  23. in todays world , thinking all/most of the DMV inspectors of days past ( that had common knowledge of class8) have since retired . to register vehicle might be easier ; NOT counting the paperwork part.
  24. think the GVW will be the problem for you. don't know the new rules today in this messed up state. more and more glad I gave up the C D L after 50 yrs. a semi has to/must be over the 26K max for non CDL
  25. that makes sense. the toggle switch went to air slave cyl on 5th wheel . cut off wires went to dash WITH INDICATOR light or buzzer letting operator know 5th wheel not locked. wheel change over to manual or just put in one spot and left. disconnected air /electric . THANK YOU for follow up info
