  1. first post states "going into a western mack";linkage picture shows a cable clutch linkage, add two together question now is 1- are both trucks same model :2- did both units have same cable linkage or is one mechanical vs cable linkage? 3- engine swap is topic: did transmission stay the same ??4- jobber sourced the clutch; do the clutches look the same ?? go with that for now. i've never had to measure free play with a tape just "eye ball ". check physical appearance with clutch pushed down see what not contacting what. also under these conditions : I would connect brakes system so it can be controlled
  2. my first thoughts were disc installed wrong /not releasing ;; have seen & done it. one disc has longer hub when installed backwards :: right place but backwards the center hubs on the two disc touch and won't release.
  3. reread this entire topic three times to get on right brain thoughts. 1 - you stated the clutch linkage is different (based on picture) , does this have a clutch brake mounted on pilot shaft or is brake under pilot mounted to trans??- haven't looked at your reply Jojo ; still writing. 2- with a helper or 2x4 holding clutch pedal down , does the linkage come in contact with clutch brake??? a spicer /eaton clutch would have an internal adjust with clutch brake external adjust ;; the purpose of the adjustment shown in picture, a mack clutch would be external adjust with clutch brake internal.
  4. no offence to anyone , but that is one ugly lookin excuse of a truck !LOL
  5. for parts that involved to change, one goes bad ;; 11 others follow soon ?? I personally would search out all 12 "updated " lifters. time and $$ possible: end results you might not have to look at the front engine gearing for a while.
  6. lookin good , positive progress makes for good day. before tooo much fuel bleeding , long as batteries are good random cranking will be best to get oil pressures up before engine running; just a thought.
  7. why is it when logging on to the forum , the Macungie dates are showing 15th --17th; then change to 16th---18th?? ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE FOR EAST COAST/ NEW ENGLAND TRAVELLERS== the I -95 south bound bridge in PA is gone . heavy delays . seek alternate route !! 84-684-287 possible .. due to a couple physical set-backs looks like the trip is out for me =
  8. to me it's not only the enjoyment ,more important is saving a piece of "history". unfortunately in todays world watching some auctions it's the mega -buck boys that buy to "add to their collection". mecum other day had a Ferrari that sold for 2.1 million DOLLARS !!!!! . the B-models that money could have bought and saved. far as oil seals 40 yrs old Bob : price is right and shipping , misc not bad ; time will find seals and other needed items. I had the '49 EE & EF also an old Diamond -T winch truck . plowed snow with EE and hauled hay with the EF flatbed. used them , same time enjoyed them .also at this time miss them.
  9. think it's donald trump stealing documents with secret service body guard ???
  10. turned the volume up ; watched many times. brought a tear to the eyes remembering the good days. only concern is the puppies on the mirrors should always face forward to guide the way . see where you are going not where you've been. personal opinion. you know what they say about opinions:: they're like as-oles every ones got one.
  11. not to "throw a wrench" in the topic , it does sound as though there is a mechanical problem; by chance did the recaps come from a different supplier ? a worn mechanical :bushings, pins etc should cause driving havoc to a degree. 4 tires (caps) worn evenly too soon possible caps poor quality ? the divider engaged at high road speed for extended time would let you know it. usually with gear oil and parts on the ground.
  12. A build like that is similar to a marriage;; it's a LOT of work , takes much patience to deal with , most cases very good to look at: ONLY DIFFERENCE is ; when that 73 barks it's a sound pleasant to the ears. LOL
  13. It's the "mona Lisa" of the mechanical world . darn nice looking. can't walk good enough today for Bethlehem show; hope for walking Brooklen; especially if the B73 will be there.
  14. memories of days gone by. "we have the technology, we can rebuild it".
  15. what are you thinking time wise driving to get there? I'm closer in CT figuring 3 1/2 hr ride .
  16. speakin of "kickass truck" ;;; have you seen the latest photos of that B-73 resto??? dang that's fine lookin.
  17. guess being old I go for practical;; the starsky & hutch ford torino. rest would attract too much attention. also the ford torino is my idea of a "sleeper" basic looking but should have some get up and go. my first car a '67 ford
  18. some what a tough call each has it's own positive.
  19. back on track ; would NEVER do that for this engine. looking forward to seeing the B73 at the shows. excellent job
  20. heck I can top that one. pain in a-s mechanic next bay over at Mack just finished head gaskets / exhaust manifold etc. as he goes to start engine for first time, I'm under my truck with air hose having blow nozzle on it. as he starts eng I take air nozzle start tapping it on floor. faster he throttles engine : faster I tap . eng slow to Idle : I slow "exhaust leak "sound. process lasted a while as I watched him race around truck looking for sound. let it be known this was payback for him busting me.
  21. it should unless that's another example of modern day cut backs. might be there just written in foreign language; or maybe no words just pictures for todays border crossers.
  22. seems to me based on bad memory; top half of valve is supply section ; bottom would be delivery- rough configuration. when treadle is pushed center section opens allowing air to lower portion. which is why valve has exhaust port on bottom. course B's and early others didn't have 121 / computerized crap etc. that valve should have supply/ delivery stamped at each port .
  23. one other advantage of the days with copper lines; valve proper position , air lines if not bent would line up. port size would place them close also. plastic a different deal.
  24. not attempt to pull cam;; you can do it . the little train said "I think I can; I think I can:: YOU CAN DO IT. it's tuesday how did you do???
  25. 3am this morning laying in bed staring at ceiling thinking of this post. I know I've taken the center nut (1 1/8th ?? ) off used a puller and taken the pump drive off WITHOUT changing the timing on pump by moving the 4 bolts. STILL HAVE TO SET ALL THE TIMING MARKS before any removing. shaft has a key way /key . can't remember the shaft set up I didn't know the "new" engines eliminated the side covers . clothes pins gone with the dinosaurs (and me) guess.
