  1. when ever i delt with a rogue brake acting erratic, findings were things such as brake can (you changed ), wrong size brake line compared to the others from can to quick release valve; oil /grease on shoes, . when you say shoes are new; brand new or resent install. has this happened since shoes changed?? someone put new shoes have wrong grit block?? slacks must be autos; is the adjustment same as rest or a slack over adjusting ??
  2. I always say; don't laugh at the car with a flat tire stranded on roadside , in a moments notice I may be the one stranded others are laughing at. we all have ideas of what the lowbed driver should have / could have done, or what we would have done. a major unfortunate situation. seems the train stopped in short distance after crash possibly from impact. start of video train was a long distance away doesn't appear as too many cars hooked to engine. could train have stopped sooner?
  3. U dun GOOOD . so proud . at last eye feel like eye taugh U youngsters some thin. 🤣🤣🤣 LOL
  4. with that info;;I go back to a line crossed on brake valve. wasn't leaking previously to new valve install. don't understand why the front axle brakes are connected to parking brake valve.??? fronts are service only . with the elimination of front axle limiting vale in todays new units, air to front brakes comes from foot operated valve. (short version). the limiting valve back then went from foot valve to dash valve to front brakes,
  5. most people don't realize the voting system has always been a phony front going back many years. difference today is the social media coverage is instant. just like the covid numbers today ; no one sits and adds all the numbers . the voting numbers are put in favor to a certain groups agenda. no one "at the top" will buck the agenda. nov. 22, 1963 proved that. JFK tried to do right ;; world knows that out come.
  6. possibly driver was trying to race over the crossing as lights were on and gates were coming down but figured wrong. the lights and crossing bars are usually working long before a train shows up. study video closely. he's on the track better then half way across , you can see lights are flashing with crossing gates dropping. I've sat at crossing wondering " Were's the train?" . realize under the -I fu---ed up situation , minutes go like seconds.
  7. fortunately gal in car had enough common sense to back up far away. easy to say what I/we would have -should have done after the fact. first look i thought a beam trailer with the excavator tracks hanging up. it was the trailer it self hanging up. any doubt before crossing ,raising the trailer with the blocks would have been a no brainer.
  8. Mack management of the day had the "brain power "to know a chassis set up for east coast terrain and weather was to be different in many ways from the west coast counter-parts , even though it was same model. also with west coast being big rig / high horse power (pete/ KW ) country. Mack made equivalent trucks with western designations= alum wheels/frames / eng etc. one of the major issues when running the shop for baskin east coast was all trucks purchased came from calif. 20-25 units purchased at same time. truck 1 same as 25. 4 branches nation wide had new units divided. I had many discussions with management regarding unit set up. can't build a truck for east identical to calif/ texas units.
  9. positive side no one killed/hurt. wouldn't want to be the one calling the owner of the excavator if driver wasn't owner. totaled machine/trailer. damage to train . insurance co gets to see video.
  10. self taught knowledge many times has a longer lasting effect than knowledge of a book or instructor. i don't remember (lot of things) if the top half of foot valve is supply / lower section is delivery. should be . does this unit in question have the trolley valve hooked to rear brakes. picture looks to be straight chassis /tanker. don't figure a connection between applied parking brake and treddle valve air leak. parking brakes function proper???
  11. based on possibility everything went back together correctly ,no lines crossed the original valves was working properly ; now there is an issue+ faulty new valve. ?? heck of a gamble with new parts in all fields today.
  12. nice looking Super. never cared for the superliner when it first replaced the R model. after time and seeing the "plastic "of today with sloped nose the square front and looks of the super/value liner are bold . 5th wheel sure is set way back """" nice
  13. mentally I can see that pan having the removable screen 6-8 in dia. x 2+- in deep ?? have removed my share ; just can't remember the engine set up. why on a service would anyone think to keep the technical data stored in brain cells back then for 50 + yrs later. hopefully there is a follow up to the question as to why it is being asked .
  14. i'll go with a line (or two) crossed. why was the foot valve changed in the first place ??? . is this a tractor :: trolley valve and double check valve system for trailer or straight truck (dump , etc)? photo looks to be a R or superliner, bad eyes can't tell. would the photo be truck in question ???
  15. took my SS soon as eligible. not being greedy ; just figured if I put it there after 50 + yrs of punching a time clock , I'll get back what i could before "others "not working a day in their life clean out the funds. being back in CT (not by my choice ) i'm being taxed on the SS even. todays standards = being an old fart is a claim to be proud of. 😁.. old fart === senior citizen go for EVERY discount you can. challenge is when you ask for senior discount and nobody questions it11 - do i really look that old ;LOL feels better when a clerk will ask you first if you are a senior.
  16. 140 proof; now you know why old timers had a better immune system . their shots were in a glass/bottle; not needle in DR's office.
  17. back then there was way less time to do a bathroom run; there was more of a show and less commercials. unlike today 4 minutes of show then 8-10 minutes of commercials. for an ole bast--d like me today is better ; seems more trips to bathroom sooner. be great if I was a TV person. LOL
  18. bought my Grandparents farm house (what was left of it ) back in '78; the still was in the cellar set up. word has it the final product was 140 proof. my Father wasn't aware still remained there. back in service it went with help of neighbor. oh the good days.
  19. the worse part is trying to find an oldies station playing music from my high school days!!!! so called oldies stations are playing tunes from 80'-90's. LOL . I'm a 50's-60's old bast--d. challenging to look at those pictures of 50's /60's street rod knowing ;; they were brand new in my early driving days.🤣🤣
  20. no affiliation with either auctions. found on auctionzip. saturday4/1/23 real trucks JMW auctions 3852 state RTE 28 Boiceville NY. pictures show Mack cabs; etc. also online toy auction Noel Barret 3/17/23 Pook&Pook unusual truck related items ,a Mack ash tray I've never seen before , many signs , pins etc. hope i've given enough info for any one interested.

  21. no reason to jack truck up so wheels off the ground. jack under the A-frame close to spring saddle. enough to take weight off center trunnion bar. a neglected bronze bushing worn out won't allow grease on bottom between bushing and cross bar. the grooves will be gone. a bronze usually is worn on bottom more then top.no matter what personal technic is ; grease works .
  22. sad to say , Mack needs more then a big bore pinnacle. i'd say Mack needs Zenon Hanson back.
  23. tubes of GOOD grease so much cheaper. rarely see people jack up the trunnion to grease center bushings. even the greasing process is an "work of art" . have seen those with an air operated grease unit hold the handle till grease is dripping on the ground. doesn't do the seals much good when they are blown out.
  24. no matter what technic is used, with torches /fire being used every job is a cautious one. fact it is a sanitation refuse truck ( come on now it not a garbage truck (that's a different brand ). have seen how fast those trucks catch fire from hidden papers etc. doing with body on (experience speaks again);; hopefully someone spends ALOT OF TIME with a pressure washer. way it's done also has a number of other factors;; time down out of service // age of unit// is it a back up or spare. and most important $$$$$. Safety ' that's alot of weight to be supported while someone is under neath.
  25. as I said once in another post ;; these engines didn't come with lifting eyes for unlike todays electronic "nightmares" engines back then were made to work ; not be removed for repair regularly. for your removal operation one major thought will be :: is this lifting procedure safe. i have found chains have a tendency to bend things , HD straps work better if possible. the lifting device also makes a difference. trans mission/ engine combo pulled together to me is alot of pressure on the manifolds.
