  1. wondered why the 5th wheel so far back;; now i see the rear rear a tag axle.
  2. the positive to buying the Mack first is you won't have the new teeth for the bob-tail ride to rattle teeth lose. LMAO😁😁
  3. it was an R model Mack !!they are /were ALL special. LOL
  4. I always thought of those little front wheel bearings when a vehicle does speed in excess of common sense. tires also , but when a bearing goes at 80+mph that axle is now a ground bearing spindle. with a tire out possibly a little more control on rim (and alot of Prayers ). had a R-700st with V-8 maxi doing 70mph once . didn't know vw bugs went that fast on a two lane road. female driver of bug must have gotten a kick out of idiot in big truck trying to catch her to get another look at beautiful set of legs in short skirt.😂
  5. picture had me wondering for a minute; looking at the middle way exhaust pipe. lucky I was able to see the small print lower right hand corner::LMSWM
  6. for the most part vehicles used in truck pulls are made for pulling competition . that video looks to be daily runners just being abused. I'll stay on the spectator side of the fence ;; not the paying for broken parts side. Englishtown Dragway back in the '80's held the truck drags. one black pete conventional held everyone attention. driver took off the rear tires put mounted tire casing ,allowed for lest chance of drive line failure. chain binder on rears to stop hop; removed fan. air filters . 86 mph. for a daily driver back then it was impressive.
  7. easy to start tripping down memory lane with topics like this. SC 350 was "high horsepower back then. such simpler , enjoyable times. no computers, emission crap . 8in stacks maybe on a bulldozer.
  8. can I get an AMEN on that !!!! oh wife come here and read this .I'M NOT alone :::LOL
  9. only one superliner i know of in CT area that had a cat in it. it was used for a lowbed hauler. i believe his son now runs the company and still has the Mack.
  10. best part of these shows from my situation is NO jewelry or house trinkets. my wife not interested. also I want to enjoy the shows.
  11. common back in the day were Cummins powered Macks, don't recall too many if any Cats ;not saying they weren't installed. Mack westerns may have had more. east coast very few, new haven truck rental (no longer in existence) was in the change over process from the B's etc to R's/F's /DM's. .a number of the F models had cummins power. '71-72 waterbury Mack sold over two hundred trucks . most to NHTR. being a rental co, The F models were specked for distant hauling
  12. If you have any connections to a local FD ; can they have a "training session" with your truck and hook a pumper up to it and run water pressure through system. or town fire hydrant. in spring/ warmer weather of course. . 70mack on track with the rodents. even if all openings were covered the critters find a way to get in. pull every cover possible to see were they are/were.
  13. i've been racking the brain cells trying to remember other AC brands. the Mark IV was the low-pro units of the day.
  14. not seeing a V8 emblem , only one large stack. must have had some hefty HP to keep Monfort speed and tradition.
  15. I saw the picture you posted of your service truck; sharp lookin unit. I had a '93 Hino i bought brand new cab and chassis . sat in my garage for a full yr while I worked round the clock keeping everyone else iron running. finally sent it to a fantastic welder ; he and i (when i could ) built a HD flatbed dump on it. I really liked the little cab over. that FL pictured brings back memories of the Mack days. a FL with the (at the time ) experimental 866 V8 showed up. as a youngster I was privileged to work with the Mack engineers on trials and tear downs. sad day in my life when the FL came in on a flat bed totaled beyond usable.
  16. not like they are bob tail or empty trailers. there's some serious weight being pulled. even if they are Owner operators having respect to their vehicle ;; which i doubt . the bragging rights over rule care and caution by looks of the front ends off the ground. must be loud and FUN to attend.
  17. totally amazing back in the day it didn't take 100 +lights and all chrome for a truck to have such class. that FL has class written all over it.
  18. years back I went to the truck drag races in englishtown NJ. also to the poconos to watch the class 8 big rigs go on circular track. have to say these videos are truly insane to watch. would expect to see driveshafts laying on the ground with the torque put through them.
  19. you got it right about the Halloween fun of many years back. it was a challenge many of us took sneaking up to someone's front porch and steal a pumpkin, not for the idea of stealing . many times we just moved it saying we were there and didn't get caught .. never understood the toilet paper all over ; today no one can afford toilet paper to throw away. LOL
  20. the word on the east coast back in the day was ; the monfort speeding ticket would only be paid by the company if it was OVER 80 MPH. an east coast truck doing 80 !! you are joking . there were a few : very few. such a different world it was "back in the day"= you youngsters missed a lot of fun times in the trucking industry.
  21. fine looking R model ; nice color without over kill of chrome.
  22. nice job on the pinstriping/// scroll work.. . my '77 ford f-350 flatbed was pinscrolled 😁. equal time for both sides LOL . a 2017 GMC dura max diesel pickup was pinscrolled that i traded in for my latest ride ;; a 2021 jeep gladiator mojave , which i sent out for pinstriping/scrolling.
  23. good to hear problem corrected and just as important;; thanks for update.
  24. even though this site is for the real trucks; fortunately, there are a number of members building the scale versions also, myself being one of them, there is a site for truck model building. they may have the info you are looking for.
  25. can't help with dimensions, interesting build. where are you locating major parts :(barrel, cab) ?
