it's like '63 Kenndey/Oswald all over again. quess there is a positive to being old and short timer on this planet...sorry kids -
and I never thought I missed anything when "puppet man" repeated what he was told to say.

funny to see those rotochambers- have rebuilt quite a few in the day. 6(?) bolts separate chamber from base; inside a large o-ring and wiper with spring =not a HD maxi spring. outer shell would develop a ring inside and leak. almost positive they aren't legal any more.

one unit for sure which had the service/parking brake set up was an old martin lowbed a customer had. small 12 (1/4) in brake pads . set buttons and drop trailer; brakes were locked, using air to hold them. system lost air =trailer lost parking brake. it used to be dropped on blocks since there weren't any landing gear. driver in hurry backed under before hooking lines , trailer rolled away, which is why going for a CDL =requirement was to hook lines before truck went under trailer. old rule based on old system. many trailers rolled away if backed under first. I made a set of 3ft long with 4 in pipe with 3 in pipe inside having 3 sets of 2 in holes for pin to raise/ lower legs. and yes they bent those backing under at high speed .

I'd agree with possible weak spring tension. either a slightly heavier spring at pump arm OR install secondary spring on fire wall connected to pedal/ firewall linkage . this is a floor mounted fuel pedal ??? how smooth moving is the pedal ? metal pin through alum add a touch of dirt making erratic operation?

using the grand stand bleachers may not have given the proper set up for a sniper . how fast the gun was investigated and found to be a legal purchase by the father. this also set the stage for stricter gun control ; taking away guns from the innocent who have them for self protection. ????? -

in'63 the question was asked" why did the limo route change?" answer is = the changed route had the limo driving SLOWER. making the shots easier. a no name kid possibly took the fall for "the sharp shooter who grazed the ear . -

johnny Sea back in 1968 made a recording == Day for Decision which said it to a tee {sadly]. "don't attack america ; let it fall under it's own corruption. and you know it's working" . once a respected nation and leader NOT ruler of the world is now considered a third world nation. over 58 THOUSAND names on the Wall in DC. don't think mentally I could go and run my hand over those names. my Brother to this day carries a piece of steel lodged in His chest ;"token" from viet nam conflict. 1/4 in over and his name would be on the Wall. a country so caught up in greed they sprayed agent orange on their own Valant Soldiers. sorry to do what i do best before I'm black balled ; the B model is one fine truck; off topic . -

not wanting to sound as a bigger idiot then I may be BUT;; being someone who lived through the Kenndy assassination, today seems to be a "set up deal. amazing the shooter was taken out (same as oswald) . dead men can't talk. another add on for Hilary's list ?? Donald's blonde hair has little blood. the many news clips don't show much ear damage?? no one put coverage on his ear =handkerchief ; yet blood didn't run much. a small squeeze bag in some one's hand with blood in it . sorry if anyone offended; guess it comes with mistrust for any political person; also 50plus yrs of observation, questioning, diagnosing. maybe 1 1/2 yrs college for police work ??? the unfortunate issue is innocent people lost their lives -
Injection pump leaking at the top.

by "top section" the reference would be to the 1 1/4 nut barrel hold-down. during that procedure requires , cleanliness higher then the standards used in open heart surgery. just the dirt inside the socket can fall in and contaminate things. once removed the barrel hold down has a 3/32nd (?) -less then 1/8=more then 1/16 square o-ring on top. works only as dirt seal. -
with changing times/ rules and regs ; hand brakes didn't make the grade . parking brakes systems needed to be a higher capability for holding. in comes the mechanical spring brake. another earlier failure was the brake systems using same service can with dual function valve . flip dash switch , valve sent air to cans (same as if someone sitting in seat holding down on treadle valve. great till truck ran out of air ;releasing brakes.

in 60's-70's there was a "conversion " set up which had the spring parking brake can mounted inside the frame rail. camshaft housing bolted to rail with hole in frame for camshaft going to outside rail . early set ups had a long 1/2 dia steel rod connecting slack adjuster on axle to cam going through frame. setting parking brake moved the rod which pulled on axle mounted slack. bad idea! rod too long kept braking. change over repair was putting HD cable on replacing 1/2 dia rod. this set up was used on DM's as well with other models..

Connecticut Construction Trucks

it's those stories that should be tape recorded and kept for the "youngsters" to listen to years from now. actually spoken by those that made the story happen. best days gone by which sadly will never be duplicated in a positive manner. computers and A I will make future tales. I take it this means another trucking co going to the history books. there could be 2-3 more volumes written on the Connecticut trucking. -
have high hopes of making the 4 hr trip to Cortland this year. last year was worth the drive. this year things a little different; don't/can't plan too far ahead for such events. missed Deerfield/ Bethlehem / Macug Pa/ and Brooklyn this yr. basically didn't make one show. meeting Bob(mowerman)last yr there made the drive / show a real positive. will see how things are when day closer.

2V maxidyne, issue pulling heads off

have used a small center punch on valve covers bottom side . small indent enough to hold rubber gasket. did mostly when engine had a jacob engine brake spacer and 4 rubber gaskets were used. situation wasn't as bad when the gaskets were cork NOT rubber. yes; did a few engines when valve covers/pan gasket were cork not paper or rubber. -

sorry to hear of the loss of Your Brother. at 73 seems time waits for no one and their hopes and goals. -
similar to having TV on during lightning storm and house or near by tree is struck. current will follow through house and take-out plugged-in appliances.

also keep in mind; the braided ground strap is a duel purpose item. not only for ground but also it is made of the braided material to act as a weak link in system should a problem arise. it will melt in half intentionally when major short happens.
-
got that one covered 100%. changed many of the braided ground straps .

after the mechanic section closed and I was put into driving: the FL was what I was given. worked well= short wheel base; excellent turning radius for the narrow alley tight turns. company colors pink/blue didn't make a difference to me . cup coffee/ doughnut to wash kid and it was cleaned every week. took it away and I was given newer plastic ford; didn't like it at all.
-
I'd say some where in time the hand brake assembly with drum was eliminated. what year truck? is there/was there a hand brake ?

thing about the "early mechanic days" , if you had half an interest in your job, you learned and studied. like high school what you put in is what you got out. thing is not much attention was paid to minor items as a thermo or maxi dyne. if it was gold it was a maxi anything else was a mack. to see the start of the computer age in trucks wasn't easy to accept. how could an engine 250 hp become a 300hp with this little box plugged it. not a wrench involved. also 300 plus rings a bell.
