I couldn't have said it better. it's as if you wrote my story. starting out "as a young bloke " I had those mechanics willing to teach the youngster . while there were those which said _ no one taught me , let him learn through his mistakes. 1/3grumpy/ 1/3 there for a pay check and the small number who stopped by a project to help. remember first time I put rod/main bearing in a Mack engine ( which was out of the truck laying on it's side ). must have taking half the day. even the foreman walked by and chuckled. I was only 18? never saw a diesel engines insides before. YES things are way different today compared to (80) years ago. books of knowledge were available AND USED . not look at a cell phone .

BUT I do have to disagree with the part " doesn't affect me how much they make "; if the players weren't getting hundreds of millions to play a game; the spectators wouldn't have to pay "hundreds of dollars" for a ticket to see the game at the stadium. one case where TV watching the game cheaper and get to see reruns of all . I can say have been to Yankee stadium and the dodger /red socks ??? stadium .didn't cost me a dime = doing deliveries not game watching. side note : I don't remember talking to you in the '70's(an old timer told me once back in the 70's )LOL

many many years back I would see fisherman sitting on frozen lake(lake zoar in ct) all day ; didn't seem many caught much. thought was "isn't easier to go to store for fish" ? or "your married and desperate to get away from other half" !!

money/ politics ruined sports ( including nascar) in my book. only sport which will hold my interest is women's ice hockey. they are tuff ; quick moving sport which rarely sees a score over 7-8. and it takes work to get a score. baseball seems to be full of home runs with balls in the bleachers ?? a bleacher home run yrs back was un common.

"TV" for me is the B M T forums. NO commercials; sometimes it's a comedy, or possibly knowledgeable learning lesson. get to "chat" with the writers !! and let us NOT forget pictures posted !!!! what more can an old man ask for.

beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. to listen to an engine a person rebuilds has much more "beauty" then a fancy paint job on the outside. compare to the run way models strutting their stuff with phony smiles on outside yet real bitch on inside. ALWAYS be proud of knowledge/ ability/ capabilities to build using brain not computer. I truly miss the days of building an engine ; nervous of the starting and finding NO leaks.

I thought it was a union worker doing his best to stay away from work . and yes I AM (was) A UNION WORKER> even though they screwed me out of $200.oo a month. still enjoying the $ ????. oo check every month. much less then I paid in but better then nothing.
