  1. We're not tooo old to do it ,we are "trying to educate the younger generation " the how to's of doing it . sounds better; I know we are to old .😁 to find a youngster willing to put down their phone. to work on something that "came over with the pilgrims" , = I've heard that one once is a feat in it self.
  2. seems the trend on east coast is :: color doesn't matter. some fleets are running any color truck they find. a concrete fleet used to be orange/blue and red /white . see many of their fleet random colors. a growing dump fleet in area runs every color . paint doesn't make more money.
  3. I'm NOT going to get suckered into going off topic LOL ; bet the drive in had a movie about a U -700. that was close LOL🙃😇
  4. years ago,"a shot in the dark" is what took place at the drive-ins. todays world a shot in the dark always involves a gun. tooo bad.. 😁😄
  5. most of us know today's cost to buy a plastic truck;; magine the cost in todays world to buy a steel truck like DM800 . all the soda cans given up to build just the hood. has been said many times on here; it's a different world. air bags carry 100K . to put old style lower cross over line the cross brace and fuel tanks would have to with stand a direct hit . like military hum vees. modern tech also save the turtles and bugs. fewer fuel spills with top cross over.
  6. if I remember (asking a lot). the R-700's with 8V-71's had twin 3 1/2 in stacks. the U in picture seems to have only one. 864 mack or 903 having 4 in single ??
  7. lower cross over line ; was in the good days (old school). too many ripped off cross over lines from road debris, resulting in fuel spills/leaks . as with most "improvements" results were, are a pain in a-s
  8. my Father left us back in '97 at 73 yrs old; cancer took a long painful yr to take him. my mother ( not a nice person-hated everyone. ) was 91 when she left in2019. year before she left, we were all sitting at the convalescent home. doc said her mind is going. she looks across the table ; sees me and yells " you Son of a Bit-- what are you doing there. Loudly I says " see she hasn't lost her mind, still remembers me. True story .
  9. must have seen the roadway U-700 in the day, just never paid attention. don't think roadway was a fleet serviced at the dealer then.
  10. everyone's situation is different. many heated discussions between wife and myself regarding retirement. 1- wait later more money per month But every yr the retirement age seems to go up.2- i've added money lost by waiting vs anticipated income. 3- every yr a person gets older /can't do as much . 4-at this rate the $$$ is going to run out. going off topic.
  11. same happened in CT; big rig tire bounced the center barrier, went air born to opposing traffic and killed a woman in car. only common denominator of living things ; man or animal: we all have a start and finish date. never take a minute for granted. such a sad unfortunate moment.
  12. NO WAY ;;;; LMAO. can't even call that lack of common sense.
  13. off the walll ; but I'm old.. by chance is the buzzer going off with brake application because there is an air leak?? at 120 lbs of air / press brake pedal;; how fast/ low does air go down??
  14. what a shame , such a great unusual piece going to junk. of course back in the day when it was fairly new i had other words for the C besides unusual when one was on my work ticket. how times change.
  15. when is Rocky possibly going to be there building? I sure would like to be there and watch (assist) the master. It's been a real long time. I'll even buy the coffee and.
  16. just a thought from an ole man. i've found that using a FLAT punch on the wear ring ; tapping it in a number of spots as to expand the wear ring it will slide off. have also used the sharp chisel attack. sometimes the chisel sinks deeper than anticipated. have filled the resulting crease in crank hub with (back in the day) permatex .
  17. and if you call now with in the next ten minutes, we will send you a another rock absolutely free. LOL
  18. D8 another memory maker. did the cutting edge change in the gravel bank it worked at. 80-90 degrees no cover or air tools. flip the centers and change the corners. my back hurts just thinking of it.
  19. seems to me ; the crank hub is the same with or without the rear seal housing installed= based on the dinosaur days (my time slot ) . dial indicator mounts to the crank hub which is extended out from seal housing. the 1/8th + - extension is where the flywheel rest.
  20. times have changed . $600.oo for a tool !! i could justify it being in your work JoJo, a customers vehicle has to be right and the tool will be used more then once. a single use ;;look to borrow/rent one. or piece of pipe right diameter drill three hole on welded cap end so it bolts to crank for square pull on install. glad I'm out of the tool buying need.
  21. another tech advancement by sounds. rear main seal use to be a piece of babit . now there was a challenge; rolling that into the rear seal housing. trial and error in/out till it was perfect.
  22. have to be super cautious with the tapping. that flange cracks real easy; how do i know- been there done that. letting the parts soak in good penetrating oil will work. put the flange in a gal can leave it for a while. i'm sure todays world there are many adhesives for sealing. in the "dinosaur days" I used the stove pipe sealer. worked for a time.
  23. can tell this is a mack site ;; reading these post prove there are "some sick puppies" here ;;LMAO. pay attention how to go back on topic;;; I'm going to start up my generator to hook up the electric grill so I can bake my apple/ rhubarb pies. how's that 😂😁.
  24. when you get a call that is hard to hear (back ground noise etc ) then it clears up , someone says "can you hear me now "? NEVER EVER say -yes. they take your voice saying yes and you just bought who knows what. you saying yes is edited into a conversation asking if you want to buy the what ever. once again it's the "sorry grandkids " your world is rotten.
  25. anything is /was possible. 1= a 613 (odd number) diesel;;2- gas engine shouldn't require an engine / emergency shut down . just sayin. I like this forum sure helps keep the brain cell functioning. the brass shut off valve made real good air tank fill valves also. same 1/4 pipe thread. not sayin I took the emergency shut off valves from ole trade ins ; they just "showed up " in my toolbox 😁
